Really wanted to read this because I am a woman of a certain age and have no one to ask for advice on menopause but I couldn’t get thru it at all. It just wasn’t for me and is a DNF. Maybe I’ll go back to it when I’m ready.

If your field of fucks is completely barren and you just want some straightforward, evidence-based information served with a healthy dose of snark and the occasional jab at pseudoscience and Gwyneth Paltrow, this will be the book for you. It’s comprehensive and empowering without being overwhelming, and explains so much of the WTF? that is confusing and mysterious about menopause.

The menopause manifesto is the perfect companion for those going through menopause or curious about the process. Dr. Jen Gunter is very knowledgeable. She covers everything from the history of menopause to symptoms to life after menopause.

I wish this were more gender inclusive, but it does have good information and will help those who need it.

This should be a required book for every woman's shelf! Whether you are in menopause or approaching it, this is the guide of all guides on what to expect, how to ease the transition, and just learn about the process as a whole. Very thorough and also REAL. you don't have to read this cover to cover--very easy to flip between chapters to read sections that apply. Thank you, Dr. Gunter!

Grateful to have received this MORE THAN THOROUGH book thanks to Netgalley and the publisher Citadel Press! The Menopause Manifesto: Own Your Health with Facts and Feminism is written by Dr. Jen Gunter, author of The Vagina Bible. Her information and writing is honest, researched, and relates the most-recent science for women everywhere. ⁣⁣

Please note, however, that this book is for EVERY woman - not just the women who may be of 'an age' where menopause is likely happening. The Menopause Manifesto is a comprehensive look at the stage of life every woman goes through. The book has enormous value for someone who has not yet gone through menopause or is in the early stages peri-menopause and trying to sort out what is happening. ⁣

Women will likely experience menopause between ages 40 and 58, but some women reach this phase in their 30s, others in their 60s. So, if you're a woman, you're likely going to want to read this book at some point! I think you should have it on the shelf to revisit from time to time! I've already purchased copies for my friends! #menopausemanifesto #drjengunter #jengunter #netgalleyreads #vaginabible #womenshealth #womenshealthmatters

Great book, meant to be used as a guide, does not need to be read all at once, can be used as a referral. Overall I felt this book really helped to break down various parts of menopause and make things clearer for me. Even with a nursing background I found it very helpful. The author is very good at breaking it down into speech anyone can understand. I felt like she was very compassionate when dealing with the subject and made it okay to speak about it. Further, that it is a basic part of life that women go through, it does not not mean your any less of a person or that you should be shunned or unable to talk about it. I thank Dr. Jen for writing a book like this.

5 stars, Menopause instruction manual

THE MENOPAUSE MANIFESTO
by Dr. Jen Gunter

This is a handy instruction manual to get a better understanding of what is happening to your body, before, during, and after menopause. For most women, it occurs around age 50-52. Some of the women in my family were early bloomers, with it occurring at 45. Nothing like going to the gynecologist and being told, "No, you can't possibly be anywhere near menopause."

Highly recommended for women and the men who love them.

Much gratitude to #netgalley #citadelpress for the complimentary copy of #themenopausemanifesto I was under no obligation to post a review.

Whoa. Anything you want to know about menopause plus some . . . plus some more and more can be found in this book. It was packed with information presented in a conversational manner, which made it very easy to read. I have to admit that I glazed over some information that I wasn't interested in - actually a bit excessive in some places, but overall, excellent.

Dr. Jen Gunter provides an extensive exploration and explanation of menopause and treatment options for the most bothersome symptoms. She rejects the notion that menopause should be treated as a disease and that any of its manifestations should be blamed on the person experiencing them.

This book does not need to be read cover to cover; you can just pick out the sections relevant to you; however, then you'll miss some of her revelations about the inherent sexism in the way menopause has been traditionally approached. The book is indeed a manifesto that women shouldn't be ashamed or embarrassed about experiencing a perfectly normal physical change. #TheMenopauseManifesto #NetGalley

I thought the The Menopause Manifesto was a good book. It touched on a lot of questions and concerns that I have as a woman that is getting older and will eventually go through menopause. The information was well thought out and was fairly understandable (and what wasn't so easy to understand she explained in layman's terms). My only negative with the book is that she references a lot of studies and statistics, but the references aren't cited when this information is presented. Instead there are lists of references for each chapter at the end of the book. With it laid out this way you have to go back and find the reference on your own. Having said that, I think that it is a good book and I would recommend it for all women to read.

I found The Menopause Manifesto to be an informative and entertaining read. It is clear that Dr Jen Gunter feels passionately about the topic, along with the importance of the medical profession understanding how the menopause affects countless women.

As a woman of a certain age myself it can be difficult to find reliable information that is useful, non judgemental and is offered by someone who clearly knows what they are talking about. Whilst the internet is a mine of useful information, it is also a font of misinformation, old information and quackery. Medical sites, such as the NHS website in the UK, tend to be quite dry, overly factual and don't always offer more than the bland, generic advice that you will hear from most male doctors. Reading this felt like being amongst friends, ones who are willing to share the good, the bad and the ugly of menopause along with their own personal insight and advice of what they have found helpful.

Every woman will experience menopause differently, yet treatment is often very generic. This book made me feel more confident in understanding what I am going through, how I can deal with it. This was all achieved with a writing style that is warm, friendly and humorous, whilst also being educational and informative..

This was a really interesting book. I really enjoyed Dr. Gunter's writing. I am a little younger than the target audience, but it was nice to read so that I'm prepared. I did find it a little bit fact-heavy. There was so much just dumping of facts on the reader and not as much interpretation. It was a little hard for me to wade my way through. I think I might reread this in the future with the physical book and a pen so that I can notate questions and important things.

Thank you Netgalley and Kensington books for access to this arc.

So … lots of information about this stage of life that eventually all humans with female reproductive organs will go through along with a heaping of (at times) vehement feminism. Gunter is the OB/GYN who wrote “The Vagina Bible” and now she takes on explaining menopause. I came for the health facts so the initial chapters discussing the history of menopause bored me. Then Gunter begins to describe the various stages of “reverse puberty.”

Different parts of the book will be of interest and pertinent to readers based on where they might be in “the change.” If they are still looking at this milestone in the far future, there are things that they can do to help make it easier. If hot flushes – or to use a historic term “hot blooms” – are upon them, Gunte discusses whether or not popular/holistic medicines actually have any scientific research to back up their use and what medical treatments are available for post-menopausal issues.

Gunter has a direct style of writing but does tend to natter on at times. Some of the information might be too medical or scientific for easy understanding. I would also have quickly gotten hammered if I had turned this into a drinking game wherein I drank a shot of alcohol each time she took a dig at “the patriarchy.” I think I prefer my non-fiction science books without that much personal opinion added. Clearly written by a doctor! An incredibly thorough and informative medically based guide to the menopause, from history through the entire process. I have to admit, in parts it was a bit too detailed for me, I would have appreciated a little light hearted banter as shown in the acknowledgments. But it is a ‘Manifesto’.

Finally! The author does an incredible job balancing medical terms with wit and empathy resulting in a read that is both informative and fun to read. I will be buying and recommending this one to all my friends.

This book is a detailed reference source of research findings as well as historical facts on how women suffered and dealt with this inevitable and dreadful change all women will face at some point in their lives. I was hoping the book will provide information on what to expect and how to treat/ease some of the scary symptoms. I did get plenty of information on what to expect, symptoms, medical issues, hardships, etc. I did not get much in the area of how to find relief. The Manifesto had some helpful tips and suggestions, as well as recommendations for other books I will be checking out, I was just hoping for more. Overall this book provide plenty of information about how menopause will impact ability to function and quality of life, but I find myself lacking in knowledge on what to do to address symptoms when this happens to me or someone I know, how and where to find some relief.
