An easy to read domestic/psychological thriller. The twist you could see coming but it didn't take anything away from the story. Thankful to NetGalley for allowing me a copy of this title to read and review.
This is one of those books that is quite easy to read and thrills you. The characters were flawlessly developed in a way that made you hate them, but still need to know what happens! While I don’t think it was a mind-Blowing, completely hungover book, I did really live that it was written about an area near me, which made me get into it much more! Did provide some great twists and turns, thrills, chills, and shocks! Definitely recommend!
A book full of twists and turns, The Other Couple is a book that's so mysterious it's almost creepy. Now I'm into thriller's and everything, but this book was really slow burn. For most of the plot, the characters really made sense in the world around them, but occasionally acted a lot differently than I expected, very irrationally. Not saying that people don't act irrationally from time to time, but this was almost too irrational. Not my new favourite, this was a book I still enjoyed reading, and recommend to anyone looking for an interesting thriller to really help them step out of their comfort zone.
It starts off with Skye and Joe staking out their next potential victims. Con artists, they're amazing at getting people to give them their money, or anything else they desire. That being said, Skye is clearly the brains of the two, and Joe being the threatening brawn. When they find their next endeavor, they're not exactly what they seem to be, and in fact, marriage councillor Brad and his wife Maggie have some secrets of their own that may just interfere with their plan.
After their vacation takes a turn for the worst, first with Skye and Joe joining their household for the duration of their vacation, and then with Joe falling off of their boat and drowning in Lake Tahoe, the three are confused at what to do next. That's when Maggie's past from before the vacation suddenly effects her present life very deeply. But it doesn't end there. Overall, this book was exciting, but it's just not my new favourite, and that's okay. I didn't really like how some of the characters acted under immense pressure, and although that's not a big deal, it kind of left a bad taste in my mouth at times.
Overall, if you're looking for something new and exciting to pull you out of your reading funk, or you're really into books with no supernatural aspects, all thriller between the pages, and lots of marital problems, than this may be something you want to check out. Just be warned, there are some scenes of spousal abuse that may be triggering for some readers, including physical and emotional abuse.

Thank you to Netgalley and Inkubator Books for the arc of The Other Couple by Cathryn Grant.
4 Stars- This follows two couples whom are named Maggie and Brad and Skye and Joe. Skye and Joe are actually con artists whom meet Maggie and Joe on holiday. They quickly become friends! then get an invite to stay at their lakehouse, as they get close to Maggie and Joe they finds way in which to blackmail them....
This was such a dark, gruesome pyschological thriller! I loved all the twists and turns as well as character development is immense, totally recommend to all.
4 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Other Couple tells the story of two couples who meet in a restaurant at Lake Tahoe. The couples quickly befriend on another, and we find out that one of the couples has become a target of the other! How far will the twists and manipulations go? What will happen to the targeted couple, and will they find a way to escape the drama and come out on top?
This thriller was well written and moved at a quick pace for me, as I couldn't wait to see what twist would be revealed next!
I thought that the first half of the book was okay. I was interested in what was going to happen and wanted to keep reading. As I read along, the characters started to get on my nerves- especially Skye. She became whiny and it felt like her personality wasn't consistent and she changed her behavior too drastically to fit her character. Her reactions to big events didn't seem real or fitting for who I thought she was. I felt this way about Maggie and Joe as well at times.
One particular part of the story that grated was when Skye was complaining and whining that Maggie was being mean to her. Really? Skye was blackmailing Maggie and complaining that she wasn't being a good hostess? It didn't work for either character.
No spoilers but the end was ridiculous in my opinion. Too unrealistic and far fetched to really feel like a good ending to the story. In my opinion, the book began well/okay and fell far short from the middle on.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
While this book did what was intended - it provided me with some enjoyment while I read - it wasn't amazing or even in my top list of books. It was thoroughly meh for me. Typical, predictable twists and turns happened, there wasn't a lot of character development, and I promptly forgot about it after I finished.
This book was free and sent to me as an ARC from NetGalley. However, all opinions are of my own.
Straight away, as soon as Joe spilt his drink on Maddie, I knew the story was going to begin. I definitely didn’t expect it to turn out the way it did. You could see Skye had a loving heart and she was over powered byJoe. Until he goes over board on the boat. Skye slowly begins to reveal her true self while Maddie and Brad has their own problems to deal with.
However, Brad was completely off the mark until an unexpected guest turns up and everything begins to make sense..
What an interesting thriller with the most unlikable characters in a long time!
As soon as I hated Brad, I hated Skye even more..and so on! The twists were somewhat predictable, but still enjoyable. Don't get me wrong, while I disliked the characters, it was still well written and from what I assume, written that way on purpose.
Great ending - did not see that coming - and could actually see this as a movie with just a little less "shallow" and more details/insight.
Thankful for the ARC
Although the description caught my attention initially, I have to admit that I was somewhat disappointed.
The author's writing style was good, and they put a lot of detail in to the characters and the plot itself, however, I found all of the leading characters throughout this book unlikeable, and often, rather unrealistic.
The ending was rather predictable, and I certainly had a firm grasp how this book would conclude from the start.
Unfortunately, this read simply wasn't for me.
Maggie and Brad are at the beach on Lake Tahoe when they set their sights on Skye and Joe. Their goal is to befriend the couple and be invited to say at their beach house. They succeed, but it becomes apparent early on that they other couple has a dark side as well! Everyone has secrets and their own agenda! There is a tragic accident and it’s hard to tell whose dark plan is at play!
I don’t like to give books 2 stars, but I found the writing in this one is far too simplistic. The thoughts of the characters and their dialogue did not feel real to me, and the voices are not distinguished. I loved the premise and was intrigued at the beginning. I didn’t find this predictable until the near the end. Sometimes I had NO idea what was going to happen and that was fun! However, I prefer a bit more credibility in my thrillers! There is also a lot of Facebook and Snap use that seemed inauthentic.
I will say that despite my critiques, I had an urge to keep reading to find out where this was going. It is suspenseful at times and takes some unique turns! Remember that this is just my opinion and you may totally love it. I want to hear your thoughts either way!
Thanks to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for providing me with an e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
A very intriguing read with lots of promise at the start. Some of the twists are obvious but it still kept me wanting to read. Slightly disappointed with the ending as I felt the book could have gone further. However, an enjoyable, easy read. Just what I was looking for.
This was more of a 3.5 star for me ... Though the story was more than a bit predictable, it was fast-paced. A couple targets another couple as a part of a con to get money and both couples end up getting more than they ever bargained for. There were a few twists and turns that were predictable for those who read a lot of mystery/thrillers. The epilogue came as absolutely no surprise.
I've enjoyed this author's books in the past and I enjoyed this one as well.

A story about a bunch of con artists who trick their way into someone else vacation. I tried to get into this one but gave up half way.
Great book! Couldn’t wait to read it, and it didn’t disappoint! Grabbed my attention within the first two chapters, and then I didn’t want to put it down. Excellent character development - I think that every reader will find a character to whom they relate. I enjoy books where there is character development, and then also a surprise, and this book provided both! Looking forward to reading more from this author!
A marriage full of secrets.
A couple of con artists.
A secluded lake house.
The Other Couple is a fast paced thriller that grabbed my attention right from the very start. It is written from the perspective of each character and it shifts all throughout the book which kept me engaged and interested in what was going to happen next. And I did not expect that crazy twist at the end.
I recommend this book to anyone that likes a page turner full of secrets and twists.
Thank you to Net Galley, the author and Inkubator Books for an ARC of this book in exchange of my honest review.
Maggie and Brad are on vacation at Lake Tahoe when they meet another couple, Skye and Joe. The four hit it off so well that Maggie invites their new friends to share her beautiful lakeside rental. When she doesn’t realise is Skye and Joe aren’t just some random couple. They have been watching Maggie and Brad, and have chosen them carefully…..
This book was a great psychological thriller that held my attention throughout. I love when a book has a great twist at the end that you don’t see coming. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a twisty thriller read.
The Other Couple was so great! Loved Cathryn Grant's voice and writing style. A page-turner for sure!
Wow! What a wild ride! This book started off slow for me but definitely picked up at the end! I had such a love/hate relationship with all of the characters which was an interesting experience to go through! Slow-burn thrillers aren’t something I particularly enjoy but I would recommend this to others who enjoy that aspect in certain thrillers. I wasn’t sure where this book was going to go but the ending was amazing and the epilogue left me speechless! If you’re into slow-burn thrillers, I highly recommend reading this one.
I'm still 'umming' and 'ahhing' over this one, it was one of those books that was really good but then it turned really bad. It was gripping and eventful, but the next minute it was dull and I struggled to soldier on reading.
