The Other Couple.
By Cathryn Grant
5 stars
Thrilling psychologist thriller that pulls the reader in.
The story line is excellent, and continually draws the reader making it hard to put down. Along with a couple of twists to keep the reader engaged and on tender hooks. The story continues to build to the climax that surprises most.
Maggie and Brad are on vacation at Lake Tahoe when they meet another couple, Skye and Joe. The four hit it off so well that Maggie invites their new friends to share her beautiful lakeside rental.
What she doesn’t realize is Skye and Joe aren’t just some random couple. And now, when they discover that Maggie has a secret which could destroy her marriage, they start turning the screws, pushing their own sinister agenda.
As the pressure builds, what should have been a dream vacation begins to look more like the inner circle of hell.

What starts as a simple con game turns into a wild ride thriller. Skye and Joe are looking for an easy mark to make a little money, who they find are Maggie and Brad, a beautiful couple looking to reconnect on a week away in Tahoe. But wait this may be an easier and bigger score than they imagined...
Ms. Grant takes us on a twisty tale that holds the reader’s interest with well developed characters and events you didn’t see coming. Even with the twists and turns it is a very readable, easy to follow story that fiction lovers with enjoy. I devoured the book in just a few days, and found myself reading it in any spare moment I could find.
I felt the book was a solid 4⭐️s the entire read, but the ending brought it up another level to 5⭐️s. I recommend this one.
I received a copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. Brad and Maggie are on vacation and meet another couple, Skye and Joe, who all hit it off instantly. Brad and Maggie invite them to spend the rest of their vacation with them in the huge house that they have rented. When Joe finds out about Maggie's affair, he starts to threaten her to pay him to keep quiet. Things escalate from their wuth both couples. This book had some good spots but I have to say that I did not like the ending. The book also had a little bit too much profanity for me.
I read The Other Couple in a day's time.. Although it was not a particularly memorable premise, it was a quick page-turner that kept me engaged and entertained. Sometimes that's all you need. Thanks NetGalley for the opportunity to read and offer my review.
Take a con artist couple, add a second vacationing couple, a beautiful setting and lots of secrets - you have the makings for disaster. I didn't think it would escalate to a death, but I knew things were surely going to go awry.
I can't imagine being so gullible as to allow a couple you had only just met to move into your vacation house and join you for the week. You've just opened your doors to who knows what kind of trouble, which Brad and Maggie found in abundance.
As for the "con couple", Joe and Skye, I thought I knew each of their roles and abilities to carry out the deception, but I was way off base as it turns out. A whiplash of an ending!
Crazy dark book of cons that held my interest. Very well written with many twists and turns.
It really did keep me guessing as to who ‘the other couple’ might be.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book
A con of all cons - befriend couple staying at Lake Tahoe, fake a cancellation, move in with them and figure out how to bribe them. The con seems to go wrong as the victims seems to have secrets of their own.
Lake Tahoe, the holiday destination with its Boats, Casinos and beautiful villas. Maggie and Brad come here for their annual trip. This time they are befriended by Skye and Joe, who are con artists.
Maggie invites them to stay at their villa along with them, much to Brad's displeasure.
As the friendship between the women is warming up, Joe discovers Maggie's secret and sets out to blackmail her. Maggie isnt the pushover he thought she would be.
As the equation between the couples changes, one of them turns up dead. They each have their motive and the while one can guess the obvious twist, the smartest one wasn't who I thought it would be.
Cant write too much without giving away the plot.
A breezy read.
Thank you Netgalley and Inkubator books for the ARC
I had high hopes for this book. The description of it by the publisher made me really want to read it, but now that I have I am disappointed. This is just another book about a couple that seemingly meets another couple randomly with the intention of getting money out of them. This has been done so many times before, I was looking for some kind of major twist, but it didn't come.
Suspenseful story of a couple renting a place on Lake Tahoe who meet another couple who lost their accommodations, so the first couple invites them to come stay with them. What a mistake!
I received a digital ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first book by this author and wow, what a ride! I was immediately sucked into this story and the lives of both couples.
While no one was particularly likeable (maybe Skye, in a very odd way), the story did play out well. I wasn't cheering for anyone but you probably weren't supposed to be.
I did think the ending was very abrupt. How does something like that happen and you just continue life, unphased?
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to preview The Other Couple by Cathryn Grant. Ok, so this is really a TRIP!. What happens when two couples meet, accidentally, on vacation, both with secrets and both with hidden agendas - disaster waiting to happen.
Maggie and Brad are on vacation at Lake Tahoe. This is supposed to be a reconnecting of sorts and time away together. As they are sitting and relaxing, a young couple, Skye and Joe, bumps into them and strikes up an "innocent conversation". Before you know it, Skye and Joe have joined Maggie and Brad in their rental home.
At first, things are fun, but in no time at all, secrets, plots, and oh so many little issues start to pop up. When something unexpected happens, both couples will be pulled into a web of desire, deceit and deception before this vacation ends.
Written in all four voices, this book is suspenseful and exciting at the same time. Totally unexpected pleasure, and I loved it.
5 stars. This is a great read. RECOMMEND!.
This book was pretty good it had a good plot and the interaction of characters was great the writing was great..
Had heard so much about this book and the blurb sounded really interesting. It didn’t disappoint and I loved it. Read it in a day. You are thrown into the storyline from the first word. Just couldn’t put it down. Really didn’t know where it was going or how it was going to turn out which I love in a storyline. Told from each characters point of view which is a favourite of mine. Some of the characters I really liked and others not so much. At times it did slow pace but that didn’t take from the book to much. Great read and would definitely recommend...
Thanks to Netgalley and Inkubator Books for the opportunity to read and review this ARC that was published on the 6th of Dec.
This started off really promisingly. I was really drawn in from the first few chapters. However as I got further into the book I felt it lost its way a little.
Some of the ways the characters acted and behaved just didn’t ring true to how they might if it was a real life situation. I saw one of the plot twists coming but after that especially it just seemed to speed up to a non conclusive ending. I feel there was lots of explanation throughout the book and then suddenly I turned the page to the epilogue when I was expecting another chapter or two to conclude the story.
I just didn’t find any of the characters particularly likeable which made it hard to really get into this story. This one just wasn’t for me unfortunately.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers and most importantly the author, for the chance to read this book, in exchange for an honest review.
Ekkk does the cover just not creep you out!? It definitely fit the characters and the storyline so well. A great thriller!!
I loved reading The Other Couple! The book kept me at the edge of my seat the entire time. I enjoyed how it was told from different characters, each fully developed. The ending was surprising, but a bit rushed. Overall, I really liked it & can’t wait to read more from Cathryn Grant!
This was a twisty psychological thriller focused on 2 couples who meet at Lake Tahoe. Skye and Joe meet Maggie and Brad and hit it off immediately- Maggie and Brad invite the other couple to stay with them after the accommodations fall through and you begin to learn secrets and ulterior motives about all 4. The narration shifts between all 4 characters and they are all unreliable narrators, which made for an engaging read as you race to find out what is really going on,
I enjoyed the suspense between these 4 characters, and the secrets and intentions that were exposed throughout the book. I did think there were some details missing around some aspects of the story, though; and there were some cases where a character acted in a way that didn't seem like a normal thing to do, but we didn't have enough background on the characters to truly understand it. Brad was the character I understood the least, and wish I could have gotten more info around what made him tick as the story continued.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read where you are constantly guessing what each character is trying to hide or expose, and the ending caught me by surprise. I'd recommend this book for those who read domestic suspense and psychological thrillers. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This story was INTENSE. I was on the edge of my seat as I was reading, and that feeling didn't stop until the final page! This thriller has not one, not two, but FOUR unreliable narrators; truly, until the end of the story you do not know who is in the right or in the wrong, or even what each character's motivation is. An absolute thrill ride, with what is best described as a "nerve-shredding climax" in the book blurb. Absolutely recommend!
I thoroughly enjoyed the other couple however I hated it ended so abruptly and open-ended. It is a story about a married couple (Maggie and Brad) who is going through a difficult time and another couple (Skye and Joe) who finesses their way into staying with them in their vacation home in Lake Tahoe. I wanted the author to flesh out the marriage of Maggie and Brad.
Thank you #NetGalley for allowing me to obtain a copy to read #TheOther Couple by #CathrynGrant for free.
This was an enjoyable read. It became a little predictable, and I figured out what the plot twist was going to be but I still enjoyed reading the book. It was a quick read, and the author did a good job developing the characters' personalities. I would definitely read more by this author. I received a free copy of this book from netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
