Ashfall Legacy is the newest Science Fiction novel by Pittacus Lore. This book is currently listed as a stand-alone novel, but any reader who makes it to the end will see that more books should be written in this world. This book had me quickly turning pages AND wanting to throw my device across the room. There is a lot of world-building and I am hopeful the next installment (if there is one) will jump more quickly into the story. This book is not related to the Lorien stories and should be judged on its characters. Not one of my favorite reads this summer, but I will look into the rest of the series to see if things improve.

"Ashfall Legacy" by Pittacus Lore presents an intriguing concept with a mix of science fiction and mystery, but falls somewhat short of its potential. The premise of a half-alien teen searching for his missing father and uncovering ancient secrets is promising, and Lore's previous successes in the genre are evident. The connection to real-world mysteries like Roswell adds an extra layer of intrigue. However, the execution of the story sometimes feels disjointed, with pacing issues and underdeveloped characters. While the uncovering of a deadly secret holds the potential for high stakes, the impact is dulled by a lack of emotional resonance. Fans of the author's previous works might find moments of enjoyment, but "Ashfall Legacy" struggles to fully deliver on its captivating premise.

I'm not normally a sci-fi reader, so I was skeptical picking this one up, but I enjoyed it. It's an easy, entertaining read.

I tried to listen to this on the arc version of the audiobook but it was so robotic which made it difficult to listen to. I feel bad that I never finished the book because from what I did listen to, I enjoyed the story. It was just too robotic for me so I DNF. This is nothing agains the book, but I wish publisher would use better computer voices for arcs of audiobooks.

I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book had an amazing plot, but I felt the characters were a bit hard to connect to.

Thank you kindly to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for this review copy.

Unfortunately, this one just didn’t work for me. I was initially pulled in by the premise, but the execution just fell flat. I do think that the synthetic voice for this one really made engaging with this audio very difficult.

#Pittacus Lore is a wonderful author. This was "not a preview of the audio book" but I felt like others that the narrator used was annoying. I very rarely have anything negative to write on my reviews. His last series l Am Number Four was really fun.
Thank you for the advance copy,

Interesting book; there was a lot going on and some of it didn't quite gel together as well as it could have. The change in tone from "I Am Number Four" is an interesting shift.

I think the comparison to Aurora Rising and Skyward was terrible marketing, and absolutely kills any potential it might have had. Did ya'll pull a muscle on that stretch? Because the only similarities are that it takes place in space and has aliens in it. AR and Skyward are both BRILLIANT, diverse, imaginative works. This one just felt like a cheap rip off of other books to be honest. It reminded me of a conglomeration of at least 5-6 other space books/movies I've already read/seen. Like I said, the concept was interesting, but it didn't bring anything new to the table.

If that was the only problem with it, I'd probably still have continued, because I love space stories even if they feel a bit generic. However, the prose was my main issue with this book and 90% of why I decided not to continue. It was incredibly juvenile and grated on my nerves. There was a lot of slang and attempts at cool kid speak (which just sounded like a middle-aged dude trying to sound like a hip teenager) and I wanted to stab myself in the eyeballs by 30%. Some books can pull it off, and it works, but this one? Not so much. It just sounded like it was trying too hard and was absolutely exhausting to read.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I didn’t read the Lorien Legacies (aka I am Number Four series), so maybe that helped since I didn’t go in with a preconceived notion of what this book might be like.

The book catches my attention from the get-go. I enjoyed Sydney’s adventures, but what I loved the most were the supporting characters and the way they were introduced in the story and their descriptions. I also really liked that the story focused on the search and didn’t turn into a romance book. I have no issues with romance being in Sci Fi books, but sometimes it gets obnoxious in YA books, so that was refreshing.

It was a bit predictable. However, it did have a great twist…and cliffhanger of an ending. I need book 2, STAT!
If you like YA Sci-Fi, I think you’ll find this to be worth checking out.

Also, please take note that many have given very negative reviews because they listened to, or attempted to listen to, an advanced listening copy that was narrated by a synthesized voice. NetGalley makes you fully aware of this, and I feel it’s not fair at all to lower the rating for that reason.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Audio for the ALC.

The narrator was a little annoying, but other than that this was a good book and a lovely trip down memory lane for me.

Absolutely amazing story. I’m a huge fan of the I am number four series and this was a great continuation.Unfortunately the robotic voice did cast a shadow on my ability to fully get into the world building, but I still loved every minute.

I couldn't get past the Voicegalley sound. It made it very difficult to listen to and truly form and opinion on the content of the book.

DNF @ 17%

I just couldn't get into this book. The summary had made me really excited to read this, but as soon as I started, it just fell flat.

A very entertaining story. Perfect for YA and us oldies alike. Interesting story.

Well formed characters, And set in places that works nicely with the readers per-conseptions of the uniforms.

Characters, the two main characters are busy all the time? Well to be able to keep an eye out on our plans etc.

The idea of traveling into space and meeting different beings other than human from Earth is not so far fetched. NASA would be so hyped! But when Earth is not what it use to be, who will help us? They are among us? Are they friendly? Are they watching us? Are they one of our loved ones and we don't even know it? Is the government aware? Or are they in alignment with the other space creatures that we the human survivors are just here to be subjects of scientific experiments. I idea of being half human and half super being is unimaginable.

The story was good, it had a good sort of flow but many unanswered questions as if the reader just jumped into this world and given little detailed, and to just go along for the ride. I found the audio version of this book to be very distracting with the monotone that I was so bothered, even bored. I couldn't concentrate on the whole of the story. The whole story shouldn't have been called Ashfall Legacy because it didn't seem to relate to the rest of the story. I felt the story was incomplete, information wasn't as organized and there wasn't much character build besides descriptions. If I were to rate this book it'll probably be about 2 or 3 stars. ⭐️

I wanted to enjoy this book but it just wasn't my cup of tea. I liked his other series but this one was far off of that. If you enjoy books about space you will probably like this one but not me. I was hoping for more from it. I did enjoy the reader for this book.

This version had a computer generated voice which was okay. I did get to hear the actual narrator and he does a great job. The story is fast paced and moves along. The only downside is that it is part of a series that isn’t all out yet.
The main character is a very loveable boy that I think people can relate too. The other characters all have their moments too.
