I feel bad for not liking this book it's very sci-fi which I love. However, the characters are not well developed and the story was so slow moving I could barely finish it.

I did find it interesting that the MC was an alien hybrid but the entire plot of discovering the origins of humanity was a huge letdown. I also find it very hard to believe such an advanced alien race would litterally forget why humans are on earth and what happened in their biggest war. Then to top it off they need humans to save them in some other war after what they did to us as a civilization...

I mean the irony is just too far fetched. I also feel it is definitely geared towards teenagers but the subject matter is very cliché and makes young adults seem unintelligent. So unfortunately I don't highly recommend it.

I can say it is a different twist on the sci-fi aspect and it gets points for that.

You just have to love this fun engaging romp of a young adult sci-fi novel in which Sydney, an Australian boy with a missing Dad is on the run in the U.S. with his mom using false identities and constantly changing locations. So why are they on the run?

Oh, it turns out that he’s half-alien, with his Dad from a far flung planet of peace-loving Denzans, who had been working with humans to recruit them for help in fighting off attacks from another alien species. On Denza, humans take on super-hero level strength. Syd gets sent off with his father’s brother to try to locate his Dad who went missing on a mission to locate an elder species known as the Lost Ones.

Once you acclimate to all that, the story unfurls with humor, action, plot twists, and secrets revealed. Syd has a locator ring left for him by his Dad, and it still shows his Dad is alive out there somewhere in the universe. Syd’s off on a quest to figure out what happened. He teams up with engaging other kids of multiple alien species, with some Harry Potter-ish grown-up teachers.

It’s not super deep or original, but I’m hooked and often found myself laughing out loud at the unfolding antics. As an avid reader young adult dystopian fiction, I found the story ultimately uplifting and engaging.

With a cliff hanger ending, I’m truly looking forward to the next installment from the anonymous author Pittacus Lore, fresh off the wrap of the Lorien Nine series.

Thanks to Netgalley for an advance reader’s copy.

As a book seller I was lucky enough to get an Advanced Readers Copy (ARC) of the audio book, which I finished yesterday. It was very well done. I cannot wait for the rest of the series.

(A common theme in many of the other comment was the quality of the computer generated narrator, and how that was distracting. I honestly did not find it that hard to follow. Yes there were a few spots that I had to rerun in my head. That said I listened knowing that this was not the final product, and my review is entirely on the story, not the quality of the ARC Narration. I strongly feel that had they read the ebook version, or had there been a human narrator their reviews would have been much better)

It was fast paced, but thoroughly written. Pittacus Lore's writing style is one that keeps you reading, and the next thing you know its 4 AM. The visions that came to my mind of his characters were so complete - something I find not all authors remember to ensure.

The book is also a great socially conscious rendering. From a non-binary entity using the they / them pronouns, to the hatred he had for an entire race based on a single interaction prior to being educated, that turned into a great friendship, to meeting another species which at first glance is disgusting (a mold like creature) that he also developed a great relationship with.

The relationships are so well written then they feel like part of your friend circle - or at least like one you want to join!

I was instantly intrigued by the synopsis of this book. This book instantly drew me in, I have been dipping my toes in to Sci-fi a little at a time and this book was unique. I got to explore through the eyes of our main character and this is always my favorite way to discover these details of the story and, it was done very well in this book. I 100 percent loved this book. This author did amazing. I loved the writing style.

This is a very "typical" Pittacus Lore kind of story - Sci-Fi, action packed, with a young protagonist discovering he is part alien and racing across galaxy on a high stakes adventure. I personally have to be in the mood for a story of this kind. Perhaps I picked it up at the wrong time, so for me it was just meh.

Well, that was disappointing. If I decide to continue the series, I think I will have to re-read or re-listen to this once the audio is out with a real narrator. I had such a hard time following the synthesized voice for this one. And maybe the book itself didn't make a lot of sense! I read all of the Lorien books and really enjoyed that series but maybe "Pittacus Lore" had different ghostwriters for this one. We'll see.

I really enjoyed the story, I loved I am Number Four series, this one was quite different, I liked Syd his character was intriguing, the storyline hooked me and the world-building was good, the pacing was a bit slow on some moments but overall I enjoyed it when things picked up. I so need to know what happens next. The audio definitely is not very good, was made with a synthetic voice and I was expecting the actual ALC of the real audiobook, my review was based on the story itself so no impact due to this fact.

I love everything Pitacus writes. This was no different. It has the same feel as the I am Number Four series but at the same time completely different. He writes science fiction for young adult effortlessly. It never feels bogged down or to complicated. His writing is imaginative and effortless. I am excited for the sequel cause I can not wait to see what happens next.

Listened to an audio ARC that had a generated voice (not a voice actor) that made it a bit harder to get into as the robotic voice was very monotone. It was a decent chosen one story that didn't rely on common tropes too much and was some fun space fantasy.

I have no idea how to sum this up. I’m confused as hell so I’ll just give my opinions.

At first, everything was refreshing and so… unique. But as things went on, I started finding things a bit confusing and I was discouraged to finish reading this book. And although this sounded like it was going to be a fun ride, the ending left me scratching my head and wondering how I even made it through half of this book.

The beginning was actually pretty interesting. I thought things were going to go one way but then it kind of switched on me. Which was a nice a surprise and I thought the rest of the book was going to keep me on my toes as well. Spoiler alert: It really didn't.

It also didn't make things easier with it being an audiobook. Yet, with this... I got a very robotic narrator that was all kinds of monotone. I literally heard the word “Harper Collins” and thought it might be a secret message for half the book until I realized that it was just a defect.

I understood almost nothing from the plot or what was happening, the characters seemed dull, and even the writing was robotic! It was like the main character felt no emotions.

Thank you to Netgalley & the pun=blishers for sending me an eArc of this.

I have been a fan of Pittacus Lore for a long time since I Am Number Four, so I jumped for a chance to hear this book. The story was paced well, the characters are interesting, and I am hooked on this series. I'm hoping to learn more about these characters, and I hope this turns into a long series for this author so I can get lost in this world more. Highly recommend this if you're into fantasy and science fiction novels, or are a fan of his old series, because you're gonna want more books right away!

I thought this book was interesting. Overall, not my favorite YA novel. I felt the plot was a little meh and the characters fell a bit flat.

CONFUSED AF. That's exactly how I would some up this book. I don't understand the point or goal of this book especially when the actual own protagonist says they are exactly back to when they started ON THE RUN. I didn't feel any character growth. I enjoyed the banter and the comical/pop culture references but that's about it. I wish there was more of everything in this novel and sadly dissatisfied. Thank you for this ARC!

New series from a good young adult author. It was full of action and fantasy elements to keep readers engaged. I think boy readers will enjoy this one.

I will be honest - I have tried very hard to get through this audiobook, but I just can’t! I can’t get passed the robotic sounding narrator and the chopped presentation. I know this is not a reflection of the actual audiobook and I really wished it were! The story sounds so interesting to me so I will pick up the book. Make sure to check the audiobooks before requesting!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

On the run his entire life, Sydney is only half human. His father belonged to an alien race who recruited humans to help fight their wars. Humans have found that in space/off earth they are like superman. His father was researching a cure for a fatal disease that any human who returned to earth contracted when he went missing. Now Syndey's Uncle(on his father's side) has shown up with evidence that Sydney's father is alive. What awaits Syndey as he looks for his father? And what could have kept him away all these years?

I need a minute....holy wow! This is easily a top read of the year. I was nervous coming into this as I never got into the author's other series, but man ....I'm speechless. This story is everything. The characters, the setting, the pacing, the reveals ....it's just honestly perfection. I wish I could meet these other alien species that are that phenomenal. A Zombified sloth creature? Assassin(ish) werewolf creatures? Puffs of gas in armor? Sign me up, I would love to go to space even if it meant leaving earth behind forever. The cliffhanger at the end of this is brutal as I don't know if the author plans other adventures with these characters. In a way, I love creating my own version of what happens next, but will definitely pick up a sequel if it is written.

I recommend this for all space sci-fi lovers of 12+ as this is a bit long, but there is nothing inappropriate or off-putting. Five ecstatic stars from this flabbergasted reviewer. Pick up a copy and be sure to let me know what you think!

I want to thank the author/publisher for giving me an advanced reading copy of this book for this review. Although I am very grateful for their generosity, the following review is completely my own and not influenced by either the author or the publisher.

Before reading Ashfall Legacy, I had not read anything by Pittacus Lore. I didn't even realize he was the author behind The New York Times bestselling I Am Number Four and Lorien Legacies Reborn series. I really went into this book not realizing who the author was. I only found out who Pittacus Lore was when I sat down to review the book itself. I say this because my opinion is not clouded by being a fan of his pre-existing work.

As for Ashfall Legacy, I really liked it. I found it interesting. It kind of reminded me of a number of major Sci-Fi hits including elements of Ender's Game with movie throwbacks like The Last Starfighter and Prometheus. I'm not saying that the author stole from these books and movies, but I definitely see how the great works of Sci-Fi have influenced the author's own narrative.

The story centers on Syd Chambers. Syd and his mother have been running from "the man" since he was a young kid. In this case, Syd is half-Denzan, and alien race that has a lot of fingers in earth politics, so he's running from those who want him for whatever nefarious desires they have. As a toddler, someone tried to kidnap Syd, which is why his mother went on the run in the first.

Of course, their past catches up with them and the next thing you know Syd is on a spaceship heading to Denza to hopefully find his father. Oh yeah, his father disappeared when he was a kid, but there's a ring that Syd is tethered to that can help them find his father.

As with any good space opera, there are those who want to stop Syd from achieving his goal. The book is filled with a lot of political intrigue. The story deals with a number of contemporary problems from the nature of humanity, climate science, racial tensions, etc... Of course, it does this using sci-fi tropes so it doesn't feel heavy-handed or like a treatise on any of these subjects.

I think this is a good book and I'm sure it's going to be a New York Times bestseller when it's released. I think the book would be a hit with young adults even if the author didn't already have a massive, built-in following.

I hoped for the same attraction when I went to this book. A narrative rich in culture from other realms, full of fear and passion that didn't dominate authority. I anticipated the exciting action in the previous season.
I wasn't disappointed at the start of this book. It takes unexpected twists and makes me believe I'm in for a very fantastic novel that reminds me of why I love foreigners so much.
About a third, I found that the storyline took a nose and the tale went unnoticed. It may be because of the monotonous and dull narrator that never changed his tone irrespective of the scenario. But I don't know, I don't know that.
It was just a NetGalley ARC that I finished, and I do not want to reduce my low % already. Other people perhaps will find the love I wanted from this book. I may even attempt to amend my review in a physical copy later. I hope it could be better for this review.

I'm delighted to have been approved for this audio copy but I just cannot do it. Having an auto-generated narrator for the audiobook does the story itself such a disservice. The emotion, the voice, the characters, all of it is dead in the water and impossible to listen to. I'll try my luck with the actual audiobook when it releases later on.

Firstly, THANK YOU Harper Audio for this eARC. I appreciate you for being the first ARC that I have received.

The main reason that I struggled through the book was the robotic voice of the audiobook. It was quite painful to listen to with no emotion and too from the story. The story definitely had an interesting premise but I do not think that this was for me.
