A really nice feel good book. It brings joy and the illustrations are so cute.
It's really an interesting idea that the author choose to tell a cute story from a shark
As a sea human, I found this graphic novel to be exquisite. It was super adorable and uplifting. I loved the different sea creatures used on the different panels and the perspectives it showed. If you are in need of a pick me up, a boost of energy or your daily dose of kindness, pick this one up. I will go back to some of the illustrations over and over again when I have a bad day as most of them make me smile.
The panels were humorous and inspiring. I could each one being a poster I would hang up in my classroom.
Bonus - there's a soundtrack that goes with the graphic novel! Scan the QR code (at the end of the ebook version) and let the music sweep you away on this underwater adventure into friendship and kindness.
When Sharks Attack With Kindness is just such a cute and wholesome litte comic. I very much enjoyed it and it really worked as a great pick me up. Just a sweet collection of funny sketches, that I can recommend to anyone, who wants to relax and smile a bit
This was just beyond adorable and hilarious, I loved it.
(Starting the year strong with good feels)
Everything about this book is amazing - you have a sea human, you have the writer who is like coffee (makes everyone anxious), and deep see for deep topics (All his words, people!)
This book had me smiling from page 1!
So adorable. I loved the jellyfish! And the whale shark! And his little orange fish friend! I loved it all. A perfect pick me up during this challenging time! I hope there are more of these in future!
I received this book from NetGalley as an eARC in exchange for a review.
This cute short graphic novel is a collection of 1 to 2 page comics that will brighten your day and make you chuckle. I enjoyed the art and the short pieces. I will probably buy a copy to have to make myself happy when I need the pick me up!
I love when I come upon one of these cartoons on Instagram, the drawings are so cute and the messages always bring a smile. It's nice to have a laugh that is not at anyone's expense and is a completely uplifting experience. This will be one of those books I randomly send to friends when I know they need a little 'pick me up.'
This was such a cute, fun, and funny book. I couldn't stop smiling the whole time I was reading it! The illustrations of sharks and their sea creature friends were so fun, and I loved the puns and themes of positivity and encouragement. This would make a great gift for a friend or family member!
I was able to read an ARC of this comic book thanks to NetGalley.
I first encountered these characters and art on Instagram (@wawawiwacomics). At first I thought the drawings were a little simple until I realized how important and deep the message and emotions they share (friendship, positivity and kindness – obviously!) and then I rapidly fell in love with the endearing creatures and their world. When I saw this book was available for review, I jumped at the chance and I was NOT disappointed!
Let’s be honest, usually, a dedication page is pretty boring to read: « thank you spouse, mom and dad, kids and editor ». In this book, I read it TWICE (and made my roommate read it) to fully appreciate the humor of the author and what would undeniably follow! He thanks his family but in such a funny way, describing them as the body of the family (wife as head, children as legs, parents and brother as arms, his readers as feet and himself as COFFEE, because he makes everyone around him feel anxious).
As you read this book, you will discern lessons on friendship, on perspective, on determination, on how to give compliments, on positivity, on living with stressful times, on taking chances and on taking the time to look up at the stars and appreciating beauty… and that’s only in the first 60 pages!
My favourite comics were p.10, because… coffee; p. 15, because art is the eye of the beholder; p.68, because awwww and p.82,83 because… Batman!
My favourite lesson was… What to do when life gets too stressful? SPIN!
When Sharks attack with Kindness is expected to come out March 2nd 2021.
When Sharks Attack with Kindness is the perfect little book to help relieve the anxiety so many of us are feeling in 2020. This comics collection features cute sea creatures with lots of clever and positive messages. Each comic is only a page or 2 long, so it is definitely a collection vs. a continuous story. Many of these adorable vignettes made me smile as I sat reading them with my cup of tea and a fire going in the fireplace. The collection is also totally age appropriate for younger readers but even adult readers will enjoy it if they are looking for a light, uplifting, quick read.
This was an enjoyable and relaxing read. The illustrations were really cute. I read it all in one go and would gladly read it again.

If you're looking for a quick pick me up, look no further.
Adorably illustrated, heart warming and uplifting. The exact thing I needed this year.
After reading a number of the short form comic books that have come out in the last year, I was really excited to pick this one up, especially after reading the synopsis and seeing the art style. This would be the perfect book to flip through if you're needing a quick laugh, smile or pick me up. I loved all the scenarios in this book and the little snippets of friendships and life between the different creatures features (one of my favorites involved penguins, but there were so many good ones!). I especially loved the continuing thread of the main shark and his fish friend as they interacted with other characters and lived their lives. All in all it was fun and heartwarming, sure to put a smile on anyone's face.
When Sharks Attack with Kindness
Author & Illustrator: Andrés J. Colmenares
Genre: Graphic Novel

This is a collection of comics about a shark and the various underwater creatures that are his friends. Sharks may be feared but the sharks in this collection show their insecurities and awkwardness. You also get to know many of the friends of the sharks such as narwhal, penguins, clownfish, whales, catfish, electric eels and angler fishe. There is no overarching story – each comic is standalone.
What I loved about this collection:
•The artwork is beautiful, colorful and adorable. It makes me just want to hug these characters and plaster my walls with the prints!
•The stories that this collection depicts are so relatable! It tackles topics like insecurity, loneliness, friendship, and purpose in life but makes them very approachable in a comic format.
•There are also very silly comics that play on names of the sea creatures. They remind me of a bad (good?) Dad joke and made me giggle.
•I read this book in one sitting. I kept telling myself that I just was going to read one more page and then it was over.
•I left this book feeling happy and with a giant smile. It really brightened my night.
I have one small critique of the book. At the end, there is a QR code to a “soundtrack.” I really wish they had put that in the front of the book so I could have listened while reading. (The QR code also didn’t take me to the soundtrack but that may be due to this copy being an ARC.) It’s such a cool concept to have a soundtrack for a book.
I would highly recommend this collection. The artwork is cute and colorful and the comic touches on topics that many can relate to. This graphic novel will brighten your day. I also think it would make a great gift to someone who needs a smile.

I was drawn to the book because of the cover with the shark. Normally I am not particularly fond of sharks but this book was an exception. It is not continuous story but rather separate situations, I didn't mind it here. I read it in one sitting because I just couldn't put it down.
The illustrations are cute and I loved the introduction of the 'sea' human. I am glad I read this at the end of the year, especially after this year. This was just a perfect way to relax and soak up the positive energy.
I was smiling so much when I was reading it. I loved the messages of the book on how to be more positive in life and about friendship.
Very cute and motiviational, each little comic can stand on its own. I would recommend this for high school ages and up. Some of the sentiments were very sweet and something I needed to read right now.
This is such an adorable and heartwarming book!
It's filled with so much kindness and cute, sweet illustrations. It would make a lovely gift, or book to look at when you need a pick-me-up.
Many thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for the advance copy.
