Sunset on the Square by Lilac Mills

A reasonably well written book. A story about middle aged woman living in Tenerife adjusting to her life there after losing her husband . A lovely book about her journey moving forward and what path that will take as her family live in Japan and shows life is not over after losing your spouse - it does go on. A lovely read about a later in life unexpected romance beautifully set in a sunny island

I enjoy reading Lilac Mills books. They have a minimal amount of drama and always have a hea.
The descriptions of the little town of Santiago del Teide sound so refreshing. April would be the perfect month to visit with the sun coming up over the inactive volcano, light rain and year-round greenery giving way to an abundance of flowers.
Elspeth Evans is a middle-aged woman, widowed four years. She misses her husband so much. They were everything to each other and it's still hard to believe he's gone.
She occasionally rents a few rooms to make ends meet. She meets Charles Brown; her first male to rent a room since her husband has passed and does it ever feel strange to have another male in her home that's not her husband. After her arrives he seems like a nice, presentable and polite gent. As they talk and get to know each other she recommends things to do, like hiking on the beautiful trails. A misunderstanding gets her going along as a tour guide and they have a genuinely good and fun time and conversation. Though she's not ready to meet and mingle she has started noticing how good looking he is and enjoying his company. He's a divorced father of 2 grown daughters. They breakfast together and genuinely enjoy each other's company. When it's time for him to leave will this friendship be swept away in the tides or will the island and her have a magnetic pull on him making him return? The author writes a fun and realistic book from the heart. Family relationships are important, and the characters draw you in to care about them.

This has been on my NetGalley shelf for over a year, and I still haven’t picked it up. I've tried, but it just isn't for me (right now). I hope other people enjoy it more than I did.

This was a digital arc from netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This was the second book I've read by this author and it did not disappoint. It had great characters and a really good storyline, not usually addressed in books that I've come across before. This is the story of two older people whose paths meet and their developing friendship. It is also a story of the mental turmoil that a person goes through when they have been widowed and begin to have feelings for another person. It deals with the feelings of guilt surrounding that and follows the decision that Elspeth eventually comes to. A really good read which I would recommend!

Nice enough... The character of Elspeth didn't really do much for me, and the romance with Charles was a tad so-so. However, I loved discovering Tenerife, which I hardly knew, through the writing and the beautiful descriptions (I'd actually recommend this more as a sort of fictional travelogue for the region rather than the romance supposed to be at the heart of this book)

This was a heart warming, feel good read. I really warmed to the character of Elspeth and how she gradually began to move on with her life after the death of her husband 4 that's earlier. Would recommend.

I thought this book was good, but I unfortunately am not the right audience. I am a younger adult who hasnt been married. I think because of that i had a harder time relating to the story. I do not believe it was a bad book at all and I strongly believe that in 15-20 years, i will enjoy this book immensely more.

A lovely light summery book I really enjoyed the character of Elspeth and how she slowly opened up to love again after the death of her husband 4 years earlier. Perfect beach read

What a perfect summer read! It's a heartwarming story that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Elspeth feels like that grandmother that everyone wants to have. And the story shows that it's never too late for love. This is the third installment of the Island Romance series, and I've been loving all three so far!

Thank you NetGalley and the author for an eARC of this book, in exchange of a honest review.

Oh what a lovely book!!!! The more i read book by Lilac Mills the more I love them!!! This one is really good!!! It's such a nice change to follow main characters who are into their 50s, and the fact that the story takes place in beautiful Tenerife is a huge bonus! This book is all about taking chances when you are in your 50/60s, and it shows that your life is not finished whatever your age. I really enjoyed "Sunset on the Square" and I can only recommend it!!!!

In Lilac Mills's Sunset on the Square, this sweet contemporary romance is so beautifully-written and heartfelt. Elspeth Evans was a widow and a British ex-pat who lived on Tenerife Island in the Canary Islands. She missed her husband Ray and works part-time in a bike sporting goods shop. Life have been lonely and dull, while her son and his family lives in Japan. When her friend Amanda asked her if she can host a tourist in her home since they had a problem with his room, she volunteered to do it for a week and later met Charles Brown, a British tourist and former eye surgeon on holiday, who changed his world. As they get to know each other, they hosted him with food, gave him a tour of the island, hiked and explored the island. The feelings between them grew and became more than mutual when they became intimate and found themselves wanting each other more. Before her son Gideon's impending arrival to visit her, Elspeth dealt with her boss's family crisis to go to Germany and concerns with the store's new management, she had a full plate on her hands when Charles extended his stay to be with her in her home. Then when her son visited her with a surprise up his sleeves, she had to deal with a difficult decision to make for her and to aim for her newfound happiness and love with Charles on the island.

I really enojyed this book.

Elspeth is a widower, having been married to Ray for decades and they have a son Gideon. Elspeth is in her late 50's. She is asked by her friend Amanda to put up a guest that they have overbooked for a few days and Charles arrives, kind, charming, and they begin a romance.

I have to say how wonderfully refreshing it is to have an author write about older romances. I loved it. Such a welcome change to have older characters and everything that goes along with that. Bravo!

I love Lilac Mills, her books are like sunshine on a miserable day to me, happiness in book form. I was so happy to receive an arc for this and as usual I wasn’t disappointed at all. It’s full of the cutest and most lovely characters, so much humour, fun, love and friendship. A wonderful story showing love is ready at any point in life

I have read several books by Lilac Mills and they never fail to lift my mood and offer the escapism that many of us so desperately need right now.
The storyline is beautiful, and the way in which the author tells the story really makes you feel as though you are living the events alongside the characters.
The characters themselves are all so likeable, and you find yourself well and truly invested in their happiness as this story progresses,

Full of humour, charm and love, this is an absolutely beautiful story!

I loved the setting of this novel – I've been to Tenerife on holidays a few times, and it was lovely strolling along familiar beaches and seeing familiar spots.

This book isn't like many romances I've read before, in that the main character isn't in her 20s and still figuring it all out. I really enjoyed reading this, and that stability in Elspbeth was something I loved reading.

A very nice book and an author I will definitely read more from.

So refreshing to read a book where the main characters are in their 50s/60s. Really enjoyable read. Romantic and light hearted. The setting is fabulous and has made me want to visit Tenerife. I loved reading about Elspeth and Charles and their fledgling relationship. Great book.

My traveling these days is like everyone else’s through books and TV programs but after reading Sunset on the Square by Lilac Mills Tenerife is now on my travel bucket list. This is because being a wonderful romance story it is also a wonderful wish I-could-be-there books with its clear but amazing descriptions. Even before I had finished the book I had to go online to check this Canary Island out.

One of the reasons I so enjoyed this story is the fact that the main characters are older. I have no problem with younger main characters but life is not over when a spouse dies. Another reason is because Elspeth was not actively looking to replace her late husband. She was content in her life fort he most part but a change up comes as she helps her hotelier friends.

Funny and poignant, Lilac Mills writes a wonderful different type of romance as it sneaks up on Elspeth and Charles, then blossoms fully. Of course, they are hesitations and bumps along the way. The conclusion is sweet with the happily-ever-after that every couple deserves..

An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
