I really liked this ya contemporary romance! It was sweet and fun. The you’ve-got-mail trope is one of my faves, along with enemies to lovers, which this also had, so basically this is like the perfect book for me.
I loved seeing how completely nerdy and cool Stella and Wesley are.
There were a few inconsistencies I saw, which I’m sure (I mean I hope) will be fixed in the copyedit. Sometimes it felt like the author couldn’t keep track of who actually likes or says what. Stella’s and Wesley’s characteristics seemed to sort of switch at times. So it was sometimes confusing.
But I still enjoyed the story.
THIS IS SUPER ADORABLE!!!
This is super nerdy and brings back a lot of memories with all the fanfiction writings, fan videos, and cosplaying. I'm a sucker for the enemies-to-lovers trope but YA contemporary romance isn't really my thing. I was nervous to start but this book is so cute and I like it a lot, like A LOT! I can't put it down. The characters are likable and I love their snarky banter and the pranks they pulled to each other. I laughed a lot reading this. The development between them being enemies and slowly change into something is well written. They both also have personal family problems and hence why both of them are being so competitive from the start.
Thank you to the author and Penguin Teen for an ARC via NetGalley
This was a such a cute read!
While I've never seen You've Got Mail, that didn't diminish my enjoyment of the story. Shipped is an adorable enemies-to-lovers who happen to anonymously meet in the online forum of their favorite canceled sci-fi show. Honestly, I was hooked just from the synopsis. A canceled show with loose ends? We've all been there and it's extremely frustrating. Combined with an enemies-to-lovers, who just happen to be academic rivals (!!!), I was LIVING for this book.
The characters are written and developed really well. I was a little nervous with a dual POV at first, but it was handled really well, without the voices getting muddled. I admired both Wesley and Stella's academic drive (I definitely saw myself there) and their passion for both their academics and the show was so fun to read. Stella's constant call-out of the sexism in the sci-fi fandoms was so refreshing to read, as I feel like this is almost never addressed. I really enjoyed the scenes from the actual show, and I actually would love to watch it (with a new ending please and thank you). I did feel like the end of the book was a little predictable, but I thoroughly enjoyed this!
If you're looking for a fun rom-com, enemies to lovers between two nerds, this is the book for you!
This was just so freaking cute. I loved it so much. I mean obviously enemies to lovers is always great. But the little elements in this one like the sci-fi tv show scenes and the back and forth of the main leads in the show. Just showing off the parallel was amazing. I really liked how opposite yet so similar the characters were too and how they grew along with the story.
Definitely recommend if you want to read a light enemies to lovers contemporary.
A cute (if slightly predictable) You’ve Got Mail-style romance, featuring two IRL enemies who bond over their favourite TV show online.
At school, Stella Greene and Wesley Clarke are rivals battling it out for the chance to become valedictorian. Online, they’re both huge fans of the short-lived cult classic Warship Seven. When a local convention is announced, the two plan to meet up, unaware of each others’ IRL identities.
Stella and Wesley’s rivalry is told from both sides with the narrative switching between the two protagonists, occasionally interspersed with Warship Seven scenes which nicely parallel the protagonists’ lives. Warship Seven is, of course, a thinly veiled fictional Firefly, and as a huge Firefly fan myself, I enjoyed how Tate incorporated the sci-fi story and its fandom into the novel. I also liked how Tate used her fictional story-within-a-story to comment on the different sides of fandom, from ship wars to misogyny within sci-fi fandoms.
There’s a lot to like about Shipped, although the main storyline is fairly predictable and none of the secondary characters especially stood out to me. Still, enemies-to-lovers is a classic trope for good reason and Wesley and Stella made for a cute couple. Overall, it’s an entertaining read, if not a particularly memorable one.
Many thanks to Meredith Tate for providing a copy of Shipped. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

This one was SOOO cute, had me smiling and fangirling a lot!
Took me a little getting into but then I was hooked. Lots of laugh out load moments and I loved that we got both characters point of view. I thought the enemies to lovers aspect was done really well and wasn't rushed and had me constantly looking forward to their interactions. Also really liked the main characters and how they developed individually throughout the book.
Overall a quick, fun and adorable read I couldn't put down.

I just didn’t like this. The main female character wasn’t very likable and there were plot holes that drove me crazy. There were parts that were enjoyable, but overall it was a chore to get through.
I really enjoyed this cute ya rom-com. It reminded me of Geekerella. Filled with lots of nerdy references and an adorable romance. this was quick light and fluffy romance about two teens bonding anonymously over a sci-fi show online. I always find this type of story fun, where we know more than the characters. It adds fun tension of when are they going to find out, how are they going to find out/react to each other. They have such a cute bond online and their in real life relationship is fun too. I liked seeing the story from both of the characters perspectives, even though we get more from Stella. I also liked how they dealt with jerky fanboys and how intensely possessive some fans are.
This book was so adorable! Shipped put a fandom spin on You’ve Got Mail and it really felt like a love letter to fan culture.
Stella and Wesley are battling for the title of Valedictorian in their last few months of high school. What starts out as an innocent rivalry quickly turns into an all-out prank war as they battle to claim the top spot and scholarship that comes with it. While battling it out in real life, Stella and Wesley have been talking anonymously in an online chat forum created for fans of one of their favorite sci-fi shows. They make plans to meet up at a local convention as both their online personas and IRL-selves grow closer.
I’m definitely a self-proclaimed fangirl, when I love something I love it big and I love it loud so I always enjoy reading about fan culture. This book handled the topic so well and I could immediately relate to the characters and some situations they were in and discussions they had.
I really liked the format and through it brought so much to the story. Shipped is told in dual perspective so the reader gets Stella and Wesley’s sides. This really allowed for getting to know the characters a lot better and it added more depth to both main characters. I also really liked the inclusion of scenes from the show that they were fans of. It was really creative how the plot in the story and the show paralleled each other.
The writing was so witty! It was really funny and entertaining. I rarely laugh out loud at books but this one definitely got a few chuckles out of me.
The academic rivals to lovers story line was done so well but I enjoyed that a lot of the story centered around family as well.
This was a super quick and addictive read. I really didn’t want to put it down!
Written in 2 POV of both characters as well as the screenplay of the Fandom described in the story. Love how the author describes the fandom, as well as its intensity. I enjoyed the slow burn of the romance in the story, the enemy-to-lover's trope, and how both the characters in the story come into their own.
This is the enemies-to-lovers book of my heart. With high school rivals who find love on a fanfic site anonymously?! The two MC’s have such strong voices, do a wonderful job of driving the story, and really pop off the page. And the paradox of their life’s and the complexity of each really connects readers with the story. I can’t wait for this book to come out so I can hold it in my hands!!
Okay so I loved this book! Shipped is the perfect enemies to lovers story, with main characters Stella and Wesley competing over valedictorian for their school (and a full ride scholarship to their choice of college!).
I loved the characters and their chemistry, it was enjoyable to read. Stella and Wesley are huge fans of a TV show called Warship Seven, that was cancelled after one season (literally my worst nightmare!). We got a glimpse of the cancelled sci fi show, and a look into the fanfic website run by Warship fans.
I loved the switch between character perspectives, and both Wesley and Stella were extremely likeable. The use of online chat added a fun layer to the book.
I highly recommend this book to fans of Fangirl and Tweet Cute, as well as fans of YA enemies to lovers!
I loved Meredith Tate’s book Red Labyrinth, and I know Shipped is completely different from that book, but I knew I wanted to read more books by her and I’m glad I got the opportunity to read this book! Thank you to NetGalley, Meredith Tate, and the publishers for a free e-arc of Shipped in exchange for an honest review.
Shipped is exactly like You’ve Got Mail with a Comic-Con twist to it. I loved the rivalry between Stella and Wes. They were hilarious with the pranks they would pull on each other, not realizing they’re actually conversing on an online forum on a regular basis and becoming fast friends on there because of their love for the same canceled sci-fi show. What I especially loved was how their relationship developed outside of the online forum. I mean these two are honest to goodness enemies, or major rivals in school, and to see how it sloooowly changed was wonderful to read. And to read how obsessed they are with the same show, and how they’re each trying to figure out who the other person is on the online forum was great! The hopes they had of who each may be and to find out who it really is was quite fun to read. Normally I’m not a fan of overachievers. They tend to annoy me, but I love how tough Stella is and how she wouldn’t let this boy scare her off. Whatever prank he executed, she’d give right back. And Wes is just a good guy despite his life at home, I mean I don’t know how he could stand being around his parents, I wanted to smack them that’s for sure 🤣 They both had their personal issues, and were able to come together over their love for their sci-fi show.
I love retellings, and we need more like Shipped that are retellings or inspired by other stories that you don’t see enough retellings of. So, if you love You’ve Got Mail, then you’ll love this one!
This book was so incredibly cute and lovely. I was in desperate need of an easy going read after reading an intense family and Meredith couldn't have sent this to me at a better time, I flew through the story and fell in love with this enemies to lovers romance, I totally 'shipped' them from the beginning and it was so lovely to see this slow burner romance form.
I adored the nerdy fandom backstory of the characters, especially when I also get heavily involved with fandoms so it was nice to see a story my younger self would've really related to. It felt so modern for what a YA romance should be at the moment.
I also now want Warship Seven to get renewed....
Fun enemies to lovers romance set at a sci-fi convention! This spoke to me as a person who loved sci-fi as a teen and longed for community with the things I loved. (Fandom didn't quite exist yet for me lol) I enjoyed that we got to hear from both Stella and Wes's point of views. This was just very, very adorable. Fans of Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde will like this one.
I love the movie You've Got Mail, so when I learned about this geeky retelling, my sci-fi-loving heart just HAD to have it! The book opens with a popular sci-fi show getting cancelled after one season, and because that is PRECISELY my greatest fear when it comes to my favorite shows, I just had to keep reading ... and gobbled the book up in a matter of hours. No regerts, y'all :P
To my mind, the most god tier enemies to lovers stories are the ones where the two characters hate each other because they have flaws they have to overcome to become better people -- and once they learn their lesson, they complement each other. That is EXACTLY what happens in this story! Both Stella and Wesley are deeply flawed characters with strong motivations, and it was a joy to see them develop over the course of the book to become better people -- and better partners <3
We also get snippets of the cancelled sci-fi show that brings the central couple together, and I especially loved how the enemies-to-lovers ship in the show mirrored the progression of Stella and Wes's own relationship. Several of those sequences gave me chills because of the parallels. Long story short, I ship #Lewton!
While the core of the story is, of course, the romance, it touched on several important themes that I loved seeing -- the way female characters are often treated in male-centric sci-fi, toxic gatekeeping fan culture, classism, the culture around academic success. We stan a societally-aware book!
Overall, this story is a compulsive, fluffy read with ALL the feels that perfectly weaves fandom and rom-com together! Now if you'll excuse me, I have to write a 198,000-word hurt/comfort fic to deal with my book hangover.
This book made my fanfiction-writing, geeky little heart SO HAPPY! Fans of Ashley Poston’s ONCE UPON A CON series will rejoice and devour this!
Ohmygosh I LOVE Shipped! It was such a great, slow reveal romance with the perfect understandable roadblocks and reveals. Oftentimes stories like these leave me frustrated that the two characters don't see things immediately, but Tate's perfect plotting and pacing kept me happy and intrigued. Love this, and can't wait for more romcoms from her!
