If you like medieval Highlander stories, this one might be for you. The writing was good. The main characters were interesting and likable. For me, the plot lacked cohesion, and I found it confusing. I just wasn't a good fit for this book.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received.
Will she see in time where her heart in truly leaning toward ...
I discovered the author’s work with the previous book in this series, and while it dealt with the dark time of the Black Plague, it was an easier read than this one.
The main couple features great characters with heart of gold, but they are surrounded by so many mean persons, all with their own agenda, it created a heavy atmosphere, even more as it was obvious those people never have a thought for the victims falling to their selfish games.
They must navigate muddy waters all in the blind, as it is nearly impossible to determine whom to trust or not. Thankfully the second part was lighter and filled with light and love.
Silene is a very naive young woman, ripped from her family, she surrendered to the fate decided for her and upon her meeting with Galeren, she fights her attraction like it is a disease. I was at time upset by her blindness even when some good souls try to show her he right path.
Yet, at the same time, it was what had been inculcated to her for years, she had been taught it was the right thing to do, even when many clues point she is a pawn in someone else’s power game.
Galeren is the loyal arm of his king, he also swore an oath of chastity to be even more efficient. And everything was well until his last assignment put him on the path of temptation. He is drawn to his lovely charge but she is destined to a higher destiny. Unless ...
He is a warrior with a loving heart, while he fights without second thoughts to the damage he leaves on the battlefields, he also cares and protects the weakest.
And while forces are in league against them being together, it is mainly Silene’s doubts that keep them apart as Galeren acknowledged early his feelings for her.
4 stars.
A special mention for cuteness to little Daffodil.
𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 : one onscreen detailed love scene.
I have been granted an advance copy by the publisher Dragonblade Publishing, here is my true and unbiased opinion.
A story of forbidden love and trechery this is a amazing book.
Paula Quinn has penned a winner.
Silene and Galeren's story is not to be missed.
I received an ARC of this title from Netgalley.
How much will Galeren and Silene risk for love? This is the ongoing question throughout the story. as Galeren and Silene struggle against an attraction that builds intensity throughout the book. I thoroughly enjoyed this slow burn romance. Be warned: there is a graphic sex scene included. Ms. Quinn is a talented author and I look forward to reading more of her books.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I’ve yet to read a bad book from this author, every page in every book it’s written brilliantly and is pure gold.
This is full of adventure, passion and tense moments that will have you on the edge of your seat.
Spectacular chemistry that leaves you feeling so satisfied.
I loved the story, it’s one I’ll go back and reread again I’m sure .
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
Forbidden Heart is an excellent story of a girl, Silene, who has been raised to become a nun. She is willing and ready until she meets her uncle's trusted warrior, Galaren. She learns quickly he is a man that can be trusted completely, since he rescues her twice before their journey is over. He begins to fall in love with her, and she struggles to decide whether to take her vows or not. she decides not to, and they run away together, instead. Galaren knows her uncle will send men to destroy them, so he takes her to his family for protection. It's a great story, but the only thing I didn't like, (it's probably just me) is that there are a lot of swear words and the one scene after their marriage where the two are together is described more vividly than I think is necessary. Other than that, it is a great story.
Ah, what love is more thrilling than forbidden love? This thoroughly enjoyable romance follows an unlikely couple into the 14th century Scottish Highlands. Forbidden Heart offers an interesting mix of the devout and the steamy, with questionable loyalties thrown in to keep the reader guessing.
This was an interesting story, with lots of moving parts and characters. It is definitely a slow burn type of romance, and it was fun to see both hero and heroine struggle with their feelings. For me it was a bit too much “instalove” and could have benefited from more tension between the two. Overall a very pleasant read!
Greed and a quest for ultimate power results in people being used as pawns in a chess game. Silene Sparrow had no particularly calling to take her vows, but when threatened by her uncle, and knowing that her parents' well-being is at stake, she finds a home in the convent where she discovers that there is pleasure in the daily routine of hard work and prayers. Captain Galeren MacPherson is sent by John Stewart to retrieve his niece from the convent to stand before the Church Council on his behalf, but he never expected to find himself being entranced by the shorn, red-haired novice. In spite of being groomed for the church, Silene has little difficulty in bringing the group of hardened warriors to heel in order to perform her daily routine. Although suspenseful and very fast-paced with regular skirmishes and attacks, there is humour in this story and a growing forbidden attraction between the Captain and the novice. I found Galeren's vow rather surprising, but could appreciate that in spite of the attraction between them, he withstood the temptation to pursue Silene. Silene, on the other hand, has to come to a decision regarding her motives to say her vows as a bride of Christ. There is a thread of Christian faith running through the novel, as the main characters seek not only to do what is best for all concerned but to also put their trust in their Maker, sometimes with surprising results. I enjoyed this well-written novel, which kept me up well after my bedtime, as I was unable to put it down. I received a copy of this book as a gift through NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Can a Novice Nun who has no knowledge about sexuality or how to advertise her appeal have the ability to entice a man to break his vow of celibacy?
Galeren is a man of integrity and the Captain of the High Steward of Scotland’s Army. He is highly trained and a powerful man who is well liked by the people.
The Novice Nun, Silene is the niece to the High Steward and his ticket to one day becoming the next King. The High Steward has great aspirations, but his soul is dark and not personable.
Silene is a kind and loving young woman who not only wants to help her Uncles cause because he is aiding her family, but she is conflicted on whether to join the Church be a Bride of Christ or marry a man and have a family of her own. Galeren has her feeling things that she knows that she should suppress.
The dark quest author Paula Quinn has taken us on will not only keep you turning the pages, but you will not put down the book till you read it in one sitting! The characters are fun, formidable, but yet tenderhearted.
I definitely would recommend this book to anyone looking for a great book!
Captain Galeren MacPherson was liked by everyone. Women kept giving him things and he had no idea why. He was tall, broad-shouldered, and was so very handsome. He and his four men had been asked to go to the priory and bring back the Novice that the high steward wanted. She was also his niece. The High Steward also told him he must marry Cecilia Birchet. But she was not a pleasant person.
Silene Sparrow was a novice and would take her final vows when Spring came. She says prayers or sacred offices of worship and reading, seven times a day. She is also kidnapped and some evil men try to rape her. The Captain comes to the rescue.
There are a lot of things going on in this lovely story. It is a good solid tale and the characters are wonderful. There is some betrayal, A relative trying to kill Silene, and Galeren trying to protect her. He feels she is so innocent. She lived a good portion of her life in the priory and knew very little about the outside world.
I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.
Silene Sparrow is a novice who intends to take her vows and become a nun in the spring, in order to help her uncle, but the arrival of Galeren McPherson throws her mind and heart into disarray. Galeren has taken a vow of chastity and intends to see his duty done. If only Silene wasn't betrothed to God. If only she didn't tempt him so much...
What's better than a Highlander romance? A forbidden Highlander romance! Delicious pining and pining-related angst make this one worth a read. Things slowed down a little towards the end when Galeren touched base with the growing family, but it's hard not to enjoy seeing everyone. Another great romance by one of my favourite romance authors.
It's always a treat to read one of Paula Quinn's books. She comes up with such exciting stories and this one is no exception.
Silene is looking forward to becoming a nun and at the same time can help her uncle's chances of becoming the next King by gaining the church's support. What she doesn't expect is to fall in love with her Uncle's captain, Galeren, when he escorts her from the priory to her uncle's home. Now she must decide if she wants to go ahead and become a nun or be with Galeren. There is plenty of danger, secrets, traitors and passion in their story that will keep you on your toes!!
I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
