Viviene and Ashton Buchanan are in perfect, newlywed bliss, or so it seems. Ashton is a renowned neurosurgeon and Viviene tries her very best to be the perfect, caring, and loving wife to match. Viviene spends her days volunteering at the local community center and even offers one of the runaway teens she is helping to stay in their guest house.
Suddenly bruises start appearing on her arms as if somebody has pinched her! And on another occasion a black eye, however, she keeps making excuses, protecting her husband, telling everyone that their marriage is perfect.
This book is an unusual thriller, full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing and coming back for more. Enjoyed this book immensely, highly recommended.
My thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture, and Arianne Richmonde for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Summary:
Lots of twists and turns that will keep you guessing .....
Oh goodness don’t read this book if you are recently married! It’s crazy but such an amazing storyline! A must read.
What a freaking page turner. A woman is in a marriage she realizes she must get out of. Slowly you learn more and more about the marriage. But you do not know it all. And trust me. You will want to read all the way until the end. I just couldn’t put this book down and was so surprised with all the twists turns and sudden captivating drop offs!!! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
What goes on behind the closed doors of a marriage is the crux behind this fascinating story. Surprising and scary!
This is a great read.
It’s a really hard book to review as I don’t want to give away any spoilers. There’s quite a few twists and turns in the book so again, I can’t really mention anything.
I can say this is a gripping domestic thriller that certainly had me racing through the pages.
Vivien is a character you will have changing feelings for as the book progresses and the same for her husband, Ashton.
If I mention anything other than what’s in the blurb, I’ll spoil it for you and I don’t want to just repeat the blurb.
I will say that if you like twisty domestic thrillers then this is definitely the book for you.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
Okay I must say this one just blew me away.
This is my first book by this author and as it seems mostly of her work is not for my taste, but I have to say that damn she know how to write a good psychological thriller. It's not like keeps you on the edge of your seat thriller but mostly playing with your mind. It has clues, and you think that you know what's going on..and maybe you are but it has so much twists and turns.
I'm going to say only this.. I don't know which character I hate the most because really they're all not likable but they are very interesting!!
Big thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for an advanced review copy of this book.
I love a good thriller and this book had it all! It easily pulled me in and kept me guessing through most of the book. Just when I thought I had figured it out, I quickly realized I was wrong. Although I didn't love some of the characters, I still really enjoyed this book!
Nothing is as it seems. Some people will go to extreme lengths to "get back" at them. The love story of Vivian and Ashton. Lots of twists and turns that you might see coming. I enjoyed this psychological thriller. Thanks to Net Galley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read the advance copy.
This one was pretty good! The first chapter grabbed me and I went through the whole book in one sitting. I would have liked to see a little more character development but other that that it was a solid thriller/domestic drama.
One marriage. One lie. Two sides to the story.
The moment Vivien meets Ashton, she knows she will be his wife and absolutely nothing will stop her.
Powerful, rich and from a good family, Ashton is everything Vivien is not. So, she molds herself into Ashton’s perfect soulmate.
Pouring his favorite vintage wine, whispering ‘I love you’ over dinner in front of friends and biting her tongue when she disagrees with him are simple sacrifices for the perfect marriage she has always craved.
When people begin to notice the bruises on her cheek, she holds their stares. There is no cry for help from Vivien. She simply keeps her mouth shut and lets the gossip continue.
If you saw Vivien nursing a black eye, you might be forgiven for thinking what everyone else does—that she is the victim in her marriage, but you’d be wrong. Vivien and Ashton’s life together is much more complicated than that. You will never guess the true story behind Vivien’s undying devotion to her husband. Nor could you possibly predict what she does next…
There were so many good and interesting things about this book that I couldn't put it down. It was so fast paced that I had to see what was going to happen to our main character Vivien. The book is all about Vivien and her husband Ashton. They have the picture perfect marriage, at least on paper, however things aren't always as they seem. Ashton isn't the man he portrays himself to be. There we so many twists in this story that it really kept me hooked. And the best part was every time I thought I knew what was going on I was thrown a new twist in the plot that changed the entire way I read the story. I loved everything about this story. From the characters that I loved and loved to hate, to the plot, I was so sad when it finally ended. I'm do glad that I got the opportunity to read this book, and if you want a novel that keeps you on your toes than this is the one for you. My favourite part about this novel had to be finding out what was really going on with Ashton at the same time that Vivien was. I really enjoy when the reader and the main character learn things together it lets you really reflect on what you read and it shows a lot of talent from the author to not give things away quickly.
There were so many twists in this book that I can't say to much without giving anything away. However
what I can say is this book is amazing and you should check it out. The only thing I suggest though is clearing your schedule because you won't want to put this one down. I loved this book and I can't say enough good things about it, it will be one that I suggest to everyone for years to come. The characters were so three dimensional and the story kept pulling you deeper and deeper into its web and right when you though.t you were free it hooks you back in. If Arianne Richmonde's other thrillers are even half as good as this one then I can't wait to get my hands on them
Literally nothing is as it seems! I had so much fun with this book! Twists, turns and dives all around! Fantastic ending! Can't wait to read more!
WOW.
Usually if a book has too many twists, it becomes an unbelievable mess. Not the case here! I was blown away nearly every time and just stopped guessing, because clearly I wasn't going to figure it all out. May not be the most plausible story but it was wholly entertaining and I'll be recommending it. Thank you!
This book was a bit suspenseful. With a bit of unexpected twist and turns.
But however this wasn't what I had expected at all! It started off strong but started to go a little downhill.
It was slow for my liking. And I felt to be losing interest in the story.
The Newlyweds tells the story of Vivien and Ashton - a young rich couple in the South of the US, who seem to have it all. However, told from the point of view of Vivien, we quickly learn that things are not right between the two and something mysterious is going on between them.
Whilst I quite enjoyed the intrigue of the first half of this book, I’m afraid that for me, it quickly descended into the ridiculous and absurd. And all of the main characters were just too unlikeable too.
I love a good thriller with twists and turns that leave me gasping and saying “wow I didn’t see that coming!” But this was just really too much. I know you couldn’t say that The Girl on the Train or Gone Girl are realistic, but still, they just work in the way they capture and excite the reader - these twists just made me roll my eyes.
This part coming up is a small spoiler so please don’t read on if you don’t want to know something that unfolds in the story...
The point where I really switched off was the part where it was announced that the mother-in-law had schizophrenia and it was so strongly hereditary in the family that Ashton refused to have children. I hated this part - it made schizophrenia sound frightening and as if anyone who has it is bound to be a murderer or hurt themselves. Whilst things may have changed later in the storyline, I still couldn’t get over how annoying this was and I didn’t like this being a message in a book in this day and age. 1 in 100 people will develop schizophrenia in their lifetimes - it’s not rare, and most people are able to live fairly normal lives and are not a danger to other people! This kind of thing is really damaging.
Anyway, after that part it was hard to get me back on side and this is the reason I have given such a low score. Not for me I’m afraid!
This type or story is right up my alley but the sequence of this one made it harder for me to stay engaged. There are several twists and turns behind Vivien and Ashton’s marriage that I never expected. I found the storytelling and the writing itself a bit clunky and youthful and noticed one instance of a name being wrong - whoops. Generally enjoyable but not as clean and polished as it could be, with a bit of a slow start.
I swear, some people will commit to utterly ridiculous amounts of time and energy in order to get back at someone. And while I do get the carrying a grudge thing, there are some that really take it to an extreme.
Yeah, the marriage looks great, pretty people, money, style but none of them have any character
The husband has 2 faces, and skilled at choosing which to show at the right time.
The wife hides a burning secret and agenda which goes pear shaped early one.
The girl and aunt all have stuff to hide and the ability to fake it pretty well until the time is right.
Like watching a very slow and fatal car accident; painful.
Was it fun to read, not exactly, but the story was well done enough to make it as uncomfortable as the story was.
Viviene and Ashton Buchanan seem to be in perfect, newlywed bliss. Ashton is a renowned neurosurgeon and Viviene is every bit the perfect, caring, and loving wife to match- she even spends her days volunteering at the local community center, and offers one of the runaway teens she is helping to stay in their guest house. So when bruises begin showing up on Viviene’s body and Ashton’s first love comes back to town, whispers start swirling between those closest to the couple that everything might not be what it seems.
While this was not the usual thriller I was expecting, it was still full of twists and turns and kept me guessing until the end! I love a good family drama full of dark secrets and unreliable narrators, and this book definitely delivered on both of those fronts. I also really enjoyed the descriptions of the town and the environment. My biggest drawback was that I felt the latter half had a lot of dramatic events thrown in a little haphazardly to create tension which was at times hard to follow and a little unbelievable.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for an advanced review copy of this book, but as always all opinions are my own!
Apologies but this was a DNF at 50%, I just couldn’t believe the story line from this point which is a shame and the book started so good and so intriguing,
This book left me stunned and speechless. I was prepared for a twist but I didn't expect them to keep coming. It was slow to start but once I got into it I couldn't put it down until it was done. Then I sat for a while with my mouth hanging open just trying to process. There were a few inconsistencies that irked me a little but the story more than makes up for it.
Such an unexpected story! Just when you think you have uncovered all the twists and turns, you are served another. Love how it kept you guessing and nothing is as it seems.
Newlyweds in love with each other trying hard to keep up all the appearances in this little town.
When Vivian finds herself in an abusive relationship what will she do?
Recommended read for those who like suspense.
Thanks to Netgalley for complimentary copy. Thoughts and opinions are my own.
