Bee good to yourself and read this first of a new series. It is the bee's knees. I am eager to read the next one. Great group of characters. Lots of potential. Charming cozy. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley.
This is the first in a new Oregon Honeycomb mystery series. Wren Johnson runs the Let It Bee honey boutique in Oceanview Oregon. It is right before Halloween and the town is getting ready for the Halloweentown festival (after the movies) and Wren decides to take her cat Everett for a walk down at the beach and she discovers the dead body of Agnes Snow and she is holding the label of her lip balm. She calls 911 and when officer Jim Hampton (who looks like a young Paul Newman) arrives he questions her about it and since Agnes and Wren's Aunt Eloise are friendly craft rivals she becomes the prime suspect. Wren is brought in for questioning and soon everyone is convinced she is guilty. Along with her employee Porsche and her Aunt Eloise they begin to investigate to clear Wren's name. I really enjoyed this mystery the story was fast paced and kept me engaged. It was a fast read. Looking forward to the next in the series.
My rating: 1 of 5 stars, did not finish.
Book one in the series.
This book just wasn't for me. I couldn't get in to it at all, despite trying multiple times. I finally just gave it up and DNFed it.
Nancy Coco is a wonderful writer that will keep you entertained from cover to cover. Her stories have "meat" and are very entertaining and this book does not disappoint. I have read her "Fudge" series as well and you will enjoy every moment of reading a Coco book.
I received an ebook ARC from NetGalley and this is my voluntary, honest review.
In this debut mystery, Wren Johnson runs Let It Bee, a honey boutique shop in Oceanview, Oregon, where she makes and sells honey-related lotions, balms, scrubs, candles and more. When Wren and her cat Everett stumble across the body of Agnes Snow, she is stunned that the deceased woman is clutching a label from one of Wren's honey-based products. So it's no surprise the police consider Wren the prime suspect in Agnes' murder.
This book was a good read and provided plenty of fun facts, tips and recipes about honey.
But there were inconsistencies in the book that took me out of the story, so this debut only gets a 3.5 star rating from me.
Nancy Coco has written several other cozy mystery series that I enjoyed reading, so I hope the next books in this new series will improve.
I received a digital ARC from Netgalley and Kensington Books with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and provided this review.
A Havana Brown, Halloweentown week, and homicide, plus an an ecologically forward thinking shop owner who is as busy as the bees she advocates for. Wren Johnson has been so busy getting her Let it Bee business up and running that she hasn't had time for much else outside of the daily walk that she and her harnessed cat, go on each day by the beach. A very likeable main character with a supportive couple of side characters and the fact that there are recipes laced throughout the book makes this a honey of a story. The mystery itself had very few red herrings but lots of page turning action and poor was stung when it came to a little romance (there is definite potential just not sure which guy). Not sure what will develop in the next book but I am looking forward to a possible frenemy subplot and maybe a little groveling by a certain male character. I look forward to making some tasty cookies helpful home remedies.
Death Bee Comes Her is the first book in the An Oregon Honeycomb Mystery series by Nancy Coco.
Wren owns Let It Bee in Oceanview, Oregon. Let It Bee is a charming boutique selling items that are honey related, lotions, lip balm, beeswax candles, and honey flavored candies. The shop has glass in one of the walls that behind it has a beehive so customers can watch the working of a hive.
Oceanview is gearing up for its annual Halloweentown extravaganza, and Wren is anxious to get everything in her shop ready, but first, she needs to take her cat, Everett, for his morning walk, and they head for the beach. Wren soon finds Anges Snow’s dead body on the beach. Clutched in Snow’s hand is the label off of one of Wren’s lip balm. When an autopsy shows that Snow died from poisoning, Wren will become the primary suspect. In addition to the label, it is a well-known fact that Agnes and Wren’s Aunt Eloise were fierce competitors in various crafting projects, and Snow always seemed to win. Wren, with the help of her assistant, Porsche, her aunt, and of course, Everett, set to find the killer of Snow.
Death Bee Comes Her is an enjoyable beginning to a new series. The book has interesting characters that are both believable and well-developed. The story is well-written and plotted.
I’m looking forward to seeing more police officer Hampton and Conrad’s development to see if one will become a possible romantic interest for Wren. Plenty of red herrings that I was kept guessing until the end of the book.
Also included in the book are delicious sounding recipes and interesting facts about honey.
I’m looking forward to the next book, A Matter Of Hive And Death.
Loved reading this book and 1 of my favorite authors. I highly recommend her and her other books. If you've haven't already. I suggest reading her books. This is a new series for Nancy
"Death Bee Comes Her” the 1st instalment in the "Oregon Honeycomb" Mystery series by Nancy Coco. What can I say other than I think Nancy has another hit series on her hands! I will definitely be preordering book 2 ~ A MATTER OF HIVE AND DEATH.
Growing up in the Pacific Northwest in Vancouver, the Oregon Coast is a favourite place for me to visit so was nice to be able to picture the setting. I really enjoyed this story, and loved that it features a cat named Everett. Plus the bonus of honey recipes at the end of each chapter was a nice addition. I can see this becoming a new favourite just like her Fudge series.
The mystery is interesting and well plotted, and I loved the characters of Wren, Porsche, and Aunt Eloise .
I kept guessing and second-guessing myself on whodunnit right to the very end. I think there could be a possible romance blooming too.
I highly recommend this book to all my cozy lover friends.
I requested and received an advance reader copy of this book from Kensington Books and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Death Bee Comes Her by Nancy Coco is book one in this new Cozy series. An Oregon Honeycomb Mystery series. Being a fan of Coco's A Candy-coated Mystery series, I was excited for this new series and I was not disappointed.
Wren owns a specialty shop featuring items made featuring honey. While walking her cat, Everett, on the beach early in the morning she finds a body on the beach with one of Wren's lip balm in her hand. When it's discovered Agnes was poisoned, all fingers point to Wren. Wren sets out to find out who is framing her for the murder. Then when Everett turns up missing, she knows she is on the right trail but has to get the answers fast or she will get stung.
There are plenty of plot twists and suspects. The main characters are likeable and relatable. There is humor, a hint of a possible romance in this easy to read Cozy.and a lovable cat. There are tips and recipes included.
I was given an ARC from Kensington via NetGalley for an honest review.
I really enjoyed the start of this series. I found myself quickly engaged in the book but I felt the ending was a little rushed. There were some characters that were introduced that I found that I was getting angry at the cop and laughing at some of the things the cat companion did. Learning more about bees and the different recipes was an added bonus. I can't wait to read the next book.
Thank you to Kensington publishers, Netgalley, and the author for my advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
Wren finds the body of her aunt's rival on the beach. A local cop and potential love interest sees Wren remove a piece of paper from the hands of the deceased. In Wren's defense, she was concerned that the piece of paper would blow away. The piece of paper turns out to be the label from her lip balm. Soon she gains a few customers that want to buy her lip balm because of the association with murder. I like the characters, setting, and plot, but if I wasn't on a deadline to get this book read I could have put this book down and not picked it up for months.
I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher and/or author via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Death Be Comes Her is the first book in a new cozy mystery series set on the Oregon coast and following a shop owner named Wren Johnson. Wren has opened a shop dedicated to bees, their products and conservation efforts. She is preparing for a big Halloween festival when she finds a dead body clutching one of her handmade products. She's immediatey a suspect and must work together with her friend Porsche, her aunt Eloise and her beloved cat Everett to try and track down the killer.
The story was a lot of fun and I instantly loved the setting and characters created by Nancy Coco. There were a few plot issues with this arc, but hopeful those mistakes are corrected with the final printing. It didn't take away from the overall enjoyment of the book and I'm looking forward to reading the next instalment of this series.
I loved this book and I need the second one now. I think Wren’s cat and Aunt were my favorite characters beside Wren herself. I am already picturing actors for the characters in this book. It had all my attention from the first chapter when Wren’s friend talked about Glitter being herps of the craft world and that is 100% right. I really can’t wait to continue with this series and her other series.
An engaging cozy mystery with an original twist at the end. I am hooked on the new Oregon Honeycomb Mystery series. The recipes and helpful hints in each chapter are nice too. Thanks to Kensington and NetGalley for an ARC. The opinions expressed are my own.
This book was enchanting! This story was full of different things that you do not normally find in cozy mysteries, the occupation, the characters. The mystery itself was well done, keeping the reader guessing until the end.
Thank you NetGalley, Nancy Coco and Kensington Books for the ARC of Death Bee Comes Her.
This is my personal review.
Death Bee Comes Her is the first book in a new series Oregon Honeycomb Mystery series by Nancy Coco.
This is great start to the series. It features Wren who owns a specialty shop in the town of Oceanview. She makes and sells products made of honey. Her sidekick is her cat Everett. The bond between the two is wonderful!
Locals as well as tourist love the products Wren makes. The lip balm in the hands of one of the local residents who Wren finds dead is the focus of why the police think Wren is the killer. Wren knows she had nothing to do with the murder and sets out with the help of her Aunt and many friends to clear her name.
I liked the twist and turns in the story and how they made it so difficult to figure out the mystery.
I am looking forward to the next in the series.
Plot holes abound in this book to the point that even the author can’t account for them and responds with a generic -- I don’t know, it was just there, comment from her character. I can’t say that I am sold on this new series by Nancy Coco, but I will give the next book, A Matter of Hive or Death, a try. That is if the author tightens up the flow. Death Bee Comes Her, at times, reads like bullet points, and then the flow smooths out only to go back to a staccato sentence format.
Wren Johnson, the owner of Let It Bee on the Oregon coast, is preparing for the local Halloweentown festival. Her honey-based balms, lotions, and candles are ready, and business is looking up. That is until she and her Havana Brown cat Everett stumble upon the body of Agnes Snow -- a woman that goes toe-to-toe with Wren’s aunt at every craft show in the area. Along with the body is a label from one of Wren’s lip balms, making the local authorities think that Wren was responsible for the poisoning. To save her reputation and business, Wren and Everett jump straight in to investigate. What neither was expecting were the lengths that the killer would go to protect themselves.
Of course, a cozy mystery would not be complete without love interests and Nancy Coco goes out of her way to throw in a couple so the reader is playing a constant ping pong game while trying to fill in missing parts of the story and to wonder, along with everyone else, who and why Agnes was murdered and why Wren was framed.
With a bit of cleaning up, this could have been an interesting story. Hopefully, the next book will take its time and fill in holes so the reader doesn’t stumble trying to do it on their own.
Death Bee Comes Her is an entertaining and well written cozy mystery. Good plot and character dynamics. Mystery fans will love this book.
A new series by Nancy Coco was something I was looking forward to as a I love the Fudge Shop mysteries. However, so much in this book did not work for me. The writing flows well and is easy to read. The story itself is just so implausible, from the various reasons she's a suspect to the way they investigate. The characters were OK but don't stand out for any reason. I loved the concept of the hive against the building for customers to see but it wasn't enough to keep my interest. There were so many inconsistencies - tubes for lotion and then two pages later, she uses only jars - and so much repetition of points that were made just the page before. I had a hard time sitting down to finish this one because of all these problems. I may read the next one but I won't reach for it as quickly as I would one of the Fudge Shop ones.
I received a copy from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
