I really enjoyed this book and the essays inside, but wish I had read it earlier in the pandemic. It made me laugh, tear up at times and relate in so many moments it is a book I wish I had found during lockdown!
When I first saw this book, I knew I had to read it, especially being a mom to a toddler during quarantine. Although many might think this book is only for moms, I think it is relatable to any reader! Award winning, Zibby Owens, created a fast-paced anthology of essays by 60+ authors about things moms don't have time to do organized into the following categories: eat, read, work out, breathe, and have sex. These essays speak to the ever increasing demands of our time, especially during quarantine, and promise laughter, tears, and life lessons. This was an easy read with short chapters. I love that all proceeds from this book go to Covid research!
This is a super fun read. I really enjoyed this one!
Many thanks to the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
This felt like Zibby giving herself a big fat pat on the back and sometimes letting others speak. While some essays were excellent, most felt like navel-gazing to me.
This was a really great collection of anthologies from women documenting their time living and parenting during the pandemic. I really appreciated the way the collection was divided into sections about how moms don’t have time to do various activities. It was both a way to feel seen and a window into the experiences of others.
Zibby Owens has managed to capture the essence of what so many moms may not have time to do and yet she gives moms the opportunity and shares secrets in finding the time. With humor and her own life experiences weaved in, Zibby has created a wonderful collection.
This was a good read and I know that any parent could relate to some of these essays. This anthology of essays was edited by Zibby Owens & features authors who have been on her podcast ‘Mom’s Don’t Have Time to Read’. The book sections centered on the topics of Read, Work Out, Eat, Have Sex, and Breathe. The vast majority of the essays were engaging & fun to read. It felt like listening to a friend tell you what was on their mind about juggling their various demands in life. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I enjoyed it so much that I bought my own copy! Thank you to NetGalley for the complimentary copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
For something different, check out this anthology of essays by best-selling authors on how moms are juggling, thriving and surviving in the age of covid and pandemic parenting! A light hearted read during trying times! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an arc in exchange for a honest review.
I’m so glad I came across this book on NetGalley and requested it. It was perfect whether I was snatching a short story around my kids or binging several at once. It was nice to hear how other people think, what they choose to write, and how they may get through this unprecedented time. Thanks for putting so many short stories together in one place.
This is a collection of short essays in response to the pandemic and quarantining with kids that moms everywhere are sure to relate to.
Divided into categories of things that moms no longer have time to do - read, work out, eat, have sex, or breathe. While I was previously unfamiliar with Owens and her "Moms Don't Have Time" podcast I see this being a great companion focusing on the ways COVID has impacted our lives. She discusses how it touched her loved ones and then shares a number of essays from various authors on their own experiences with these unprecedented times we find ourselves living through, They are relational, emotional, funny- filled with everyday stories of everyday monotony and extraordinary circumstances.
Many thanks to Skyhorse Publishing and NetGalley for the advance copy.
While some of these stories were engaging to read, most of them fell flat for me. I didn't really connect to any of the stories, likely because the lives these women describes don't sound anything like mine. I appreciate the author acknowledges her privilege in having another home to flee to when the pandemic hit, but that same awareness of their comparative fortune wasn't found in most of the stories. And for being written by professional writers, most of the stories struggled to actually be about anything.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Let's start with the cover. It's real. Real life as a mom is not picture perfect!
As with any anthology, some parts were great, and some were just.. meh..
I laughed at some, I cringed at others.
But I would defintely check out other work by the author.
Thank you to NetGalley, Skyhorse and Zibby Owens for the ARC of Moms Don't Have Time To in return for my honest review.
I love Zibby Owens! I follow all of her social media accounts and was excited that she was publishing a book of essays. Zibby Owens has a great bookclub/podcast "Moms Don't have time to Read" .Her podcast is the first place I go after I finish a book in hopes that she has interviewed the author.
This collection of essays are written by mostly well-known people/authors their thoughts and experiences during this time of COVID we are experiencing--a very appropriate read for 2020/2021! Zibby also writes throughout the book.
I look forward to the time when Zibby Owens publishes her first novel! (She keeps hinting that she is writing one in her interviews with other authors!)
What a little treat this book was!
This book was full of short stories written by all different authors. It was split into five sections- moms don’t have time to: read, work out, eat, have sex, or breathe. It was so nice to read current point of views by authors. Some pandemic reads are difficult to read but this was not! I loved hearing about how people are handling (or surviving) the current circumstances. I love the “read” section as reading has been my saving grace. I don’t really work out but loved these stories & it made me want to challenge myself more. This was such a great way to learn of new authors. Some names I have read and some I just recognized. What a cool idea for a book! Also as a busy mom of two it was so nice to be able to pick this up & just read a few stories. Sometimes a book requires more attention that I’m able to give. It provided a huge range of emotions. Some stories made me laugh, made me cry, warmed my heart, inspired me, etc. I hope some of my girlfriends pick this up! Zibby Owens produced quite a treat!
What a wonderful arrangement of essays addressing many of the topics we're currently being faced with in the midst of a pandemic. How do we find time to care for ourselves and our families when our world is upside down? By reading all these amazing perspectives so graciously and thoughtfully shared by Zibby. I laughed, I cried, I nodded constantly and smiled throughout. Such a great way to bring us together and raise money for a good cause!
I went into this book thinking it was written by Zibby Owens and was pleasantly surprised that she was more of an editor of it. Very interesting book that provides lots of different perspectives!
This is a great book to read over a few days or even a week taking in each section. I enjoyed the stories about woman not having time with their spouces. Their are some things that aren't too relatable but other things I found myself thinking "yes exactly "
A lovely quarantine compilation of short essays by mothers (and fathers) about the challenges they have had to face during this unprecedented time and how they are learning to cope. Split into several sections, the importance of reading, working out, eating, having sex, and breathing are all important facets of life that should be embraced, not sacrificed.
I enjoyed the opportunity to peek into the lives of these writers, at how this shift in the world has affected their way of life, as well as sampling the writing styles of many authors; some I've heard of and read and others I have not. This is the perfect book to read when you only have a few minutes to spare. It was a lovely companion to books that are denser with long-winded chapters.
The rave reviews and the introduction in the book really hyped me up, but many of the 'essays' were a bit of a let down and felt more like reading affluent ladies' blog posts.
There were some good ones which touched me, but there were also quite a few that felt like lacking any substance and some felt whiny, some came of as a bit elitist, some uninspiring and irrelevant, and overall I couldn't connect and relate to many of them. It's probably just me, because all the reviews I've read are super enthusiastic.
In the last part of the book is a section where Mrs. Owens thanks literally hundreds (!) of people who have supported her in her making this book happen. Even the chess teacher of her children is acknowledged and also someone who gifted her a tote bag, and the person who decorated her apartment in NYC. I'm not joking. Anyway, to each his own. I understand and appreciate that she is helping (aspiring) authors in this way and that is commendable.
It unfortunately didn't feel like a good investment of my reading time.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC.
Zibby Owens managed to find a way during a historic and personally challenging year to connect many of us to one another through what we all have in common, which is the challenge of time allowing us to be most present with who and what we love. In sharing her own stories of life and passion for great books on her podcast and Good Morning America, writers and readers have held up their hands and pens saying, I get it and can totally relate. Other authors have bravely shared their own stories which she has lovingly collected in this anthology. We are unable to gather in person this year due to quarantine but we can in spirit as we turn the pages of Moms Don’t Have Time To. (& love that we both have 4)
