An easy read that was easy to follow.
Would recommend for any thriller lovers who love something fast paced and exciting
3.5 rounded up to 4 stars - Anyone renting out holiday lets should probably keep well away from this book or use it as a lesson! Hannah lives with husband Daniel and two kids in a beautiful part of Derbyshire. They have a barn which has been beautifully and thoughtfully kitted out. Then Nadia and Mike arrive……. As usual I enjoyed this book by Miranda. Always easy to get into with plenty going on. Sadly Hannah is a bit of a drip and always makes the wrong decisions which does begin to grate. Then how she behaves towards Daniel - oh dear! Not really mad about the way the book ended to be honest, a bit odd. I got through the pages quickly in the haste to see how everything would pan out. All in all an enjoyable read and not just for Miranda’s fans.
Thank you netgalley and publisher for the opportunity to read and provide honest feedback on this arc.
I had heard great things about this book from my various online book groups, so I was excited to get down to it. The premise of the story was ok, but none of the characters were actually likable. I feel like this story fell short for me. I was intrigued enough to finish it and find out how it ends, but not by much. Although it was a quick read it felt convoluted and like there was just too much. I’ll probably still try another from this author but this wasn’t favorite.
Loved this read! Couldn't put it down and decided to read it all in one sitting, definatly did not disapoint! Thankyou author!
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this book! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the ending really brought it all together for me and I was happy with it! I am looking forward to reading more books by this author! I have already recommended this book to others! Thank you again to NetGalley!
I really enjoyed this book! It has a great story line and was very easy to follow. I would recommend this!
The archive date was not visible to me after I downloaded it. So, I thought to read it later because I had a lot of other books that were expiring and out of nowhere when I visited this book again it was archived and I had no prior knowledge of that.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and Miranda Rijks for an ARC in return for an honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this psychological thriller. I love a book with twists and this did not disappoint. A little creepy at times. Highly recommend!
Hannah Pieters could be living the dream, what with being married to a leading surgeon, two adorable children and a beautiful country house, but it isn't all bliss. Hannah's husband, Daniel has quite a temper and is condescending too. When Hannah turns the barn in their property into a holiday cottage, Daniel isn't very supportive. Yet, Hannah is determined to give her best.
Trouble brews when the Joneses book their cottage for a week. Mike and Nadia are the worst kind of nightmare guests one can imagine. Messy, rude and indifferent, these new guests seem hell bent on wrecking Hannah's plan to run a lovely holiday home. Everything turns ugly when Mike and Nadia crash a party in the main house. Mike picks a fight with Daniel and it all goes downhill from there on.
It's been a while since I read a suspense thriller book that had kept me hooked till the end and book was such a page turner. The writing was fast paced with well-placed twists and an engaging drama that's easy to feel involved with. I thought the ending was a bit hurried but it still tied everything up nicely.
Hannah has just opened her own holiday cottage, a beautifully remodeled barn and is looking forward to it being a success. Her husband is a cardiothoracic surgeon who is away from home a couple nights a week and with two kids she has a busy life. Then Nadia, Mike and their daughter Kayleigh rent the barn and the nightmare begins.
This is a great “keeps you on the edge of your seat” read. So hard to put down because it’s full of characters your either love or hate, twists and turns that keep you guessing and so much drama.
Thank you NetGalley, Miranda Rijks and Inkubator Books for this edition and hearing my honest review. Looking forward to reading more with you

This book is so different from other mystery thrillers I have read. It starts off really well It was very well written when Hanna and Daniel bought the house to do up there was a outside barn that either needed to be renovated or pulled down. Eventually they decided to renovate. Although they were not sure what they were going to do with it. Then Hanna came up with concerting it for a holiday cottage. Daniel being a very busy heart surgeon let her have the converted barn as he put it not as a business but as a hobby. That really griped with Hanna just because he was a brilliant heart surgeon it didn’t mean he could treat her like it’s a hobby she had put her live on hold for him and the more she thought about it. He got her doing his bidding at once as soon as he got in which was never known exactly when that would be. Not that she ever moaned or anything because she had married him knowing he could not work until 5 abs walk out not with his job. Anyhow she told herself to stop it as she had guest arriving that afternoon and everything had to be so perfect with its expensive furniture down to the cushions. Daniel came over and told her she was going to too much fuss it’s was looking amazing he told her. Which it did. She turned to Daniel and said that you darling he told her he had to start getting a move on as he had quite a few surgeries that afternoon. Walking to the car Daniel said I hope they appreciate the hard work you gave put into the holiday cottage and also the expense he said with a sarcastic tone to his voice. When he got into the car his classical station had just started the most popular music fron 1845 to 1945. He often liked this quiz all his thoughts of hone completely gone. Hanna wirh their 2 children started to keep a look out for their gust. Suddenly they heard a car coming up the drive towards the cottage, not quite whatvhanna was expecting , this silver batters Mercedes was heading further up when it suddenly stopped and out got this man with stomach Val bit his T-shirt would not pull sny further down because it fitted him everywhere else except over his rather large stomach that even when he pulled up his polyester track suit bottoms there was still a large gap between his T-shirt and his trousers, he stood on the Mercedes silks and shouted and told her if she was not be staying that she had better down in his trouser his hand were missing. They. Where playing with himself. A small woman started to ask what had happened that no matter how long long, abs stopped as her eyes saw a girl about then coming slinking off just when you thought things coujf not imagined. When the girl started to mumbled swear words coming from the girl who was about the same age as her daughter. Key Mike asked abs with that turned around to unlock the Cottage door. When they first booked they had paid in full in advance. However they were not exactly the type of people’s Hanna wax hoping to attract. This is just the start of the nightmare that’s about to come. She couldn’t wait until. Daniel got hone because she wanted them gone. A brilliantly written book and just about when you think you have a worked out the motive of then renting her cottage things change again there are so many twist abs turns in this book. I actually didn’t want to put it down. It’s a fantastic book and I really do think you will enjoy it. Highly recommended...
I thought this was headed in a different direction than it ended up going, but I couldn’t put this down and felt myself becoming anxious during certain parts. Only critique I have is language is a little repetitive at times.
Hannah is a well-off wife and mother of two children and seemingly doesn't have any problems in her life other than getting her lifelong dream on it's feet which is a high-end holiday rental cottage. She has only rented it out once and now she is fully prepared for her next guests. This is an expensive rental so she is a little caught off guard when the family arrive in an old beat-up car and their appearance leaves a lot to be desired but she knows she shouldn't be judgemental and if they have the money to pay for all this luxury then there shouldn't be any problems. The cottage is rented for a week and then a new party will arrive and Hannah just wants to get good. reviews so this will become a flourishing business especially since her husband considers this a hobby for her and not a real money maker so she wants to prove her business sense to her husband as well as herself. The first day starts a little rocky but when problems keep occurring day after day and the family is turning the cottage into a pigsty, Hannah just wants them gone. Suddenly, an unexpected accident occurs that they are placing the blame on Hannah and they will have to extend their stay and Hannah is just beside herself with anger and anxiety but also trapped by this manipulative couple that are beginning to suffocate the life out of her and the relationship between her husband and herself is getting very strained yet Hannah keeps hoping things will quickly be over and maybe they will but not in the way Hannah ever expected as her life turns into a downward spiral and she wonders if she will ever be free again.
This was a fast and enjoyable read with some really terrific twists and suspenseful moments. The first half of the book was a crazy nightmare and I just couldn't read fast enough. The second half brought in many other other unexpected aspects to the storyline which made for a a clever well-plotted story. I highly recommend this book to any mystery or suspense reader who enjoys a really good psychological mystery.
I want to thank the publisher "Incubator Books" and Net galley for the opportunity to read this book and any thoughts and opinions expressed are unbiased and mine alone!
I have given this story a rating of 4 Clever and Exciting 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Stars!!
This was a fast paced read where I could fully empathize with the frustration and fear that the protagonist was experiencing. The story centers on Hannah, who turns her barn into a holiday rental and ends up with the tenants from hell only the 2nd time she rents it out.
This is one of those books where there was always a feeling that something bad was just getting ready to happen, which kept the pacing high. The visitors, Nadia and Mike, were so out of line through a lot of the book that it set my teeth on edge. Poor Hannah had an unsupportive husband and no real idea of how to handle the issues that arose from these guests. While Hannah was a little naive, I could empathize with her for the most part.
The end of the book felt a little rushed and was pretty unrealistic in my opinion, but I still found it mostly satisfying.
Overall, I enjoyed this read and felt it was engaging and action-pack with a few surprises thrown in along the way. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
THE VISITORS is a standalone psychological thriller by from the best-selling author, Miranda Rijks, author of Roses are Red and The Arrangement.
Hannah has it all being married to a successful cardiologist Daniel, and mother to two young children: eight-year-old Rosa and six-year-old Joel. As Daniel, recently promoted consultant cardiothoracic surgeon, travels frequently to London or Manchester a few nights a week and away from home, Hannah decided to take on a project of her own, so she occupied her spare time with a renovation project, converting their stone barn into a beautiful holiday rental. She had to juggle her duties as a mother, wife and job as a piano teacher. It took seven years to complete the renovation of the barn, with the intention of turning it into a successful business.
Things turn bad when the new visitors Mike and Nadia come to stay for just a week with lots of baggage. They are noisy, dirty and disrespectful. Hannah is worried they may wreck her restored barn.
Hannah tries to accommodate her visitors…but nothing pleases them! She soon realizes that Nadia and Mike aren’t here just for a holiday - they have a deeper, darker purpose, one that threatens to destroy Hannah’s entire life.
A shocking secret from her past coming back to haunt her…
But now, Hannah has to find the courage to fight back.
My heart went out to Hannah and all her struggles and drama. While having to deal with a husband who was rarely around, who put her down all the time, and having to deal with these ungrateful threatening visitors, life was not easy.
The Visitors was a really enjoyable and addictive read. I was gripped from beginning to end.
Many thanks to the author, Inkubator books and Netgalley for my digital copy.
This is one of those thrillers that provided the much needed necessities us they’ll lovers seek, but something just didn’t do it for me to give a full 5 stars! It provides lots of fun thrills, chills, and shocks, and is definitely well written! I would surely recommend, especially if you’re looking for one that’s quite fast paced and easy to get through!
The Visitors is a psychological thriller which did not disappoint. It was full of twists and turns that I did not see coming and I really enjoyed it. I will be looking out for more books by this author in the future.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for my copy.
Very fast paced well plotted psychological thriller. The twists that occurred were mostly not what I expected. I enjoyed this story about a woman trying to regain her confidence and financial independence from her husband by renting out a cottage on her property. I thought the descriptions of each character was very thorough and I found myself hating the actions of the holiday guests! I was very invested in this book and read it in about 1 day. Great read for fans of domestic thrillers!
I very much enjoyed this book. It has a good story and excellent main characters. I would definately recommend this book.
Firstly a big thank you to the publishers for my copy to review on netgalley.
