An absolutely stunning debut. I read and enjoyed this authors second book THE CONNELLYS OF COUNTY DOWN and I'm looking forward to her next book, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MCCRAYS coming in January of 2025.

This is a very touching and loving family novel. The Brennans are a family that love one another no matter what. They have arguments and disagreements like most families but they are always there for each other.

When Denny received a call from a cop saying his sister was in the hospital due to a bad wreck caused by her drinking and driving he got a flight and went to rescue her. He may have hesitated for a few seconds but he went. He loves his sister dearly. He loves his family. Two brothers and a sister, he also has a wife and a little daughter. Denny has a lot on his plate but he is still there for his family.

Sunday awakes in the hospital after a car wreck to find her brother there. She's grateful and very happy to see him. She goes back across the country with him. Home is where she needs to be. To heal both physically and emotionally. Sunday has a big secret that made her leave in the first place. She left the love of her life who has been a part of the Brennan family for many years.

When all of the secrets are revealed you see this family stick together like no other. They are a strong force. Each has something going on but together they can overcome almost anything. Jackie is another brother to Sunday and he has held her deepest secret for five years. He tried to get her to tell but she was afraid and ran instead. When she finally faces what happened things take a turn. While the love of her life, Kale, is married and has a son their feelings for each other have not dimmed. What will happen to these two? Shane, the youngest brother, has a learning disability and his siblings rally around him always. This family has a lot of love to give. And a few secrets.

A great story of a dysfunctional and yet very familiar Irish American family that loves and fights fiercely.

Fabulous characters connected by family. A troubled past that was not always transparent these siblings and family struggle through what they want and what they all actually might just need. I could not read this book fast enough and obsess over the characters more like they were my own siblings and neighbors. The author brings the love for family together with protecting each other when scandal is uncovered after a community member believes he can ruin this family that he just does not want to see be happy. Looking forward to more from this author!

This story is interesting and the characters are well developed and somewhat typical of families that care too much about appearances. Parents that favor certain children over others and are not open and honest with each other thus creating secrets that eventually become known at the wrong time. All in all a very good read.

This book is about what a person would do to keep their family happy.
Some so many people will identify with this book because while we are following an Irish American family there are so many people in this family who feel like members of almost any family. Throughout this story, we follow the Brennan family and how each of them has been thrust into their current predicament because of an event that happened five years earlier.
These characters are all flawed and have to deal with the lies that they have told to "keep their family safe." I thought that this book hit on a lot of topics that so many people are dealing with in today's world.
My only real dislike about this book is that the pacing was very slow for a book that is less than 300 pages it felt very long.

Enjoyed this novel! The writing style and characters were easy to follow! The story line kept my attention! The ending was not my favorite! But would still recommend and continue to read more from this author! I liked the strong family connections and the realness of family struggles!

I’m late to the game as usual but I really enjoyed this family drama!

Sunday Brennan returns home to NY after a major car accident in LA. She’s allowed her life to get completely out of control after bailing on her family and fiancé five years earlier. She starts helping out older brother Denny, doing the books for the bar he owns and helping manage the family responsibilities again. But each Brennan is holding onto their own secrets, and Sunday’s return sparks a truth telling that none of them expect but all of them need.

I really enjoyed the dynamic of the different siblings in this book. Each relationship felt unique, even though the characters all shared a lot of commonalities. Kale, who isn’t a Brennan but might as well be, also features largely and is well written. I also liked how the author balanced exposition with action, giving readers enough of the background story without making it feel overwhelming.

I’m glad I picked this one up!

I really enjoyed this book. I typically am very drawn to family sagas, and this one dug into the Brennans' story - good, bad, and ugly - from page one. I can't believe I didn't read this sooner!! Sunday Brennan grew up with her parents and 3 brothers. Her brother Denny's best friend, Kale, was the love of her life. Her mom was needy, and had a cold sternness to her - for almost everyone but Denny, who she thought hung the moon. This book showed how even when the ties that bind are unyielding and frought with tears and rips, they are still reliable and can stand up to mending and repair. I know Tracey Lange has another family saga out (or being released soon)and I definitely want to read that too! Thanks Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

There's something I love about messy, complicated, dysfunctional families who stick together through thick and thin. There are a lot of secrets within the Brennan family. A LOT! But they love each other so hard and show up for each other. I really enjoyed reading about the Brennans and found this book very engaging.

About how where you grew up and who you grew up with is sometimes just the place you need to remind yourself who you are.

A good story where you get to know the characters, a storyline that moves along and a book you can easily pick up.

We Are the Brennans is a family saga told in alternating viewpoints. The book starts with Sunday, who is upset and drunk in Los Angeles. She gets behind the wheel and ends up crashing her car. She is taken to the police station, given a breathalyzer, and arrested for driving under the influence. She calls her brother, Denny, and he flies out to bring her home.

Home is a mess. Denny and Kale (her brother's best friend and former fiance) are opening a second restaurant/bar, only they are in financial trouble (which they are keeping a secret). Her younger brother Shane, has mental challenges, and has been upset that she left for LA five years ago. Jackie has been keeping her secret for five years, and their father is slowly dealing with dementia.

The reason Sunday left to go to California is revealed about halfway (maybe?) through the book but it is done well. It wasn't drawn out forever and it wasn't revealed too soon. It made sense and was done really well.

I enjoyed the family saga and how each of the family members stood up for each other at the end of the day. Overall, well done.

Wow. When a family has secrets, they have SECRETS. I honestly didn’t expect this book to have a happy ending, but it was well-rounded and left it open without being a cliffhanger. I enjoy that this family has been through a lot but they still love each other, and would do anything for each other. I called one of the twists, but it was great watching the family figure it out.

Warning: unpopular opinion. I know a lot of people really enjoyed this book. Many said they read it in a day. I kept picking it up and would get into it and then bored and into it and then bored. So, I stopped and waited for the audio. Whichhhh helped me get through the book faster but I didn’t love the narrator 🙈 which people also said they really enjoyed- so bottom line I don’t know what’s wrong with me. This book just didn’t do anything for me.

There’s lots of secrets and drama and no one’s talking to anyone about anything and Sunday leaves for like 5 years because she’s too afraid to share what really went down and it all just could have been avoided with a good convo- so I thought that was dumb.

What I did enjoy was the array of family members (characters) and each of their personalities/drama. I enjoyed slowly but surely finding out info- kinda like a mystery novel. I liked Sunday and being in her brain as she processed her trauma. 2 1/2 stars ⭐️

This was one of the best books I have read in a while. I loved the characters and felt for many of them. It is a great fiction read and I was pleasantly surprised. I highly recommend this book. My first 5 star rating in awhile.

I loved this book so much.
The Brennans are such a great family with unique individuals. I loved every one of them for different reasons.
The complicated and tragic love story between Kale and Sunday was so intriguing to unwrap. We learn about their past throughout the book and the secret held by Sunday for years has a serious impact on everything that the family thought they knew.
This book is written in multiple POVs and I absolutely love how seamlessly they flowed together.
The characters and their problems were relatable and this was a book I could not get enough of while I was reading.

I loved this story! The characters and the story dynamics were perfect! Highly recommend! 5 stars! I’m glad I got a copy of this book through Book of the Month for my library.

We Are the Brennans is a intriguing, contemporary novel of a large Irish family who own a bar in NY state. The chapters tell the family's story through various points of view, revealing the lies told and secrets kept to protect the family's honor. Sunday Brennan returns from a five-year stay in LA and finds herself helping her brother, Denny, unwind the bookkeeping mess at the bar. Kale, Sunday's high school love, is working on being a family man with his wife and their three-year-old son. The strength of the novel is hearing how different members of the family layer their parts in the events that bring everyone back to the kitchen table to to hash out the problems. For fans of Jennifer Close's Marrying the Ketchups.

I enjoyed this. It was a decent story that stayed interesting throughout. A cast of characters that was pretty well developed.
