Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Embroidered Animals by Yumiko Higuchi is such a glorious feast for the eyes of embroiders and needleworkers. Her animals and birds are simple yet beautiful, adorable, and quirky. As I turned each page, I kept saying, “oh, that’s my favorite!” She gives lovely examples of colors, fabrics, and projects such as pillows, tote bags, and much more. This is a book that every needleworker will want on their shelves.
I would have given the book five stars, but I felt there could have been more in-depth embroidery instruction, so I gave four stars. Nonetheless, I already have several patterns picked out that I intend to create. Beautiful! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, Roost Books, for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.
This is such a beautiful book. I'm just getting into embroidery (I sew and crochet right now) and I'm really excited to try these. They're beautiful. I'm going to be trying out one of these for Christmas gifts this year and the instructions so far look like they are very detailed and makes me comfortable as a beginner. Thanks for allowing me to review this book!
I adore Roost Books’ craft offerings and master embroiderer Yumiko Higuchi’s latest is so charming and imaginative! While I couldn’t open the file due to iOS interface issues, I found multiple page shots on Amazon’s Japanese site. Darling!
The book features 25 motifs and patterns in Japanese craft style, with a whimsical array of embroidered animals from cats and dogs, rabbits and sheep, to cheetahs, giraffes, and bears. They’re included in sewing projects for pillows, bags, bookmarks, and more.
EMBROIDERED ANIMALS would be a great gift for any crafter seeking respite from the Covid pandemic. Highly recommended!
