This book was a fun witchy read! I have a love for all witchy books - and this was no exception. Set at a southern university where Greek life is everything, this novel reminded me of my own college sorority years - the good and the bad. But these sorority girls are not a normal group of sorority women focused only on Greek life and grades. They have larger issues to deal with, including murder, kidnapping, and combatting dark magic. These girls are one of the most powerful covens of witches in the world. It was a page turner for sure - and I was surprised to discovery who the real villain really was. The book also deals with growing up, discovering who you are and what your values are, as well as evaluating friendships, and love. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes new adult novels, with some magic thrown in.

I am not thrilled that I was approved for this title and then it was archived not long afterwards. I thought I would have more times and when I went to listen to it it was gone and I couldn’t listen to it. Time was not sufficient

This had such an interesting premise, but for me it just fell a little flat and hit a lot of obvious plot points. It tells the story of Vivi, a young woman attending a prestigious college encouraged to rush for a sorority, which just happens to be filled with witches. I enjoyed the dual perspectives here as we follow Vivi and Scarlet and their varied experiences on campus. I thought that the narrator did a good job and enjoyed her use of accents. I also thought that the pacing was good and it kept my interest throughout. Unfortunately, I just found it all a bit too obvious and didn't think it made the best use of the potential in the premise.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

After falling in love with Kass Morgan's writing style and her 100 series, my teen and I were both SO excited when this title was releasing, and I am SO thankful to NetGalley & RB Media for giving me this ALC to listen to in exchange for my personal review!

The Ravens was the YA I didn’t know I needed, combining my love for nostalgic school days reads with enough fantasy elements to dip my toes into without getting lost. Scarlett Winters and Vivi Deveraux were great, strong female characters and I adored how the dual POV made the narration enjoyable and added to the story as we got to know each of the girls & their contributions to the main story.

As a sorority girl myself a million years ago, I was so excited to see those elements of a sisterhood, mixed with the magical elements of Kappa Rho Nu, a fun take on a nostalgic part of life but in a way I hadn’t seen done before in a book.

"You can be the most powerful Witch in the world if you believe in yourself and you believe in your sisters. But being the best Witch and being the best Raven aren't one in the same."

With a focus on female friendships through prioritizing their sisters, and having the courage to believe in yourself and your powers, I found this plot line unique and engaging - I am SO thrilled to see book two already listed on Goodreads and would love to see it adapted into a tv series! This book was the perfect setup for future characters to be expanded upon and more in the book series! 4.5 stars from me!

**2.5-stars**

I'm so sorry, y'all. I really wanted to love this. The Ravens has so many great elements that I thought would really work for me, but unfortunately, it just didn't. The story alternates between two perspectives, Scarlett Winters and Vivi Deveraux. Scarlett is a legacy Raven at Westerly College, aiming for the slot of sorority president, like her mother and sister before her.

Vivi is a freshman, who is shocked when she receives a bid to join the exclusive sorority. From what she gathered at the rush party, she's not really Kappa Rho Nu material. But the sisters saw something in her and that something is power. Magic power. The Ravens are witches, each and every one of them.

Vivi didn't realize she was a witch. Her mother had always dappled in occult practices, but Vivi assumed it was all an act. Apparently not. After rush, Vivi's pledge class are assigned their Bigs and then set about learning not just the history of the sorority, but everything else they need to know about being a proper Raven.

I was so excited when I started this novel. I was in a sorority and was looking forward to getting nostalgic about rush and all the amazing time and friendships that followed. While initially, I did get a few of those feels, I wasn't sure if I was suppose to be taking this seriously or not. I am not sure how best to explain what I mean by that. It was like I couldn't interpret the tone. From there it was just sort of all over the place for me.

I had moments when I was really into it and a lot of moments where I couldn't care less. Around the middle I could tell, it just wasn't for me. I felt nothing for the characters and I didn't feel like any part of the plot was particularly compelling. There were two male characters who were basically interchangeable for me. I could really only tell which one it was when another character said their name. That's never good.

As far as the audiobook goes, it was fine. I would say that there were sections where the characters were maybe speaking softly to one another, or in hushed tones, and the narrator followed through with that a bit to much. I found I couldn't keep it at a steady volume. I had to keep cranking up the volume in those sections, particularly in scenes towards the end.

Bottom line, this just wasn't the right story for me. I never connected with it and was happy when it was over. As I always say however, just because it wasn't the right book for me, doesn't mean it won't be the right book for you. If you think the synopsis sounds intriguing, pick it up and give it a go!

Thank you so much to the audiobook publisher, RB Media, for providing me with a copy to read and review. I always appreciate the opportunity to give my thoughts!

I found the narrator easy to listen to and follow, although I did listen at 1.25x. The original speed was just slightly too slow for my attention span XD Unfortunately, the book was just so-so. I clocked the identity of the antagonist/villain early on, as well as the motive, and not a single plot point in the book surprised me. The love interests were relatively undeveloped; the same goes for the sorority sisters outside of the two POV characters.

Story: 4.5 ⭐️
Steam: 1 🔥 (YA Romance)
Audiobook: 5 🎧

This book was so so so cute!! I adored it honestly. I love nerdy romances and this one certainly delivered!

This friends to lovers romance was perfect for those who love protective, lovable, reliable, classic golden retriever heroes 🤣 our heroine is brilliant, soft spoken, and a bit oblivious in social situations. I loved the peek into what it’s like to be a woman in STEM and seeing a girl kick butt at math!

We also got to see our heroine overcome her anxiety and learn to trust herself which was amazing.

Audiobook Performance: Fantastic. Both narrators did an amazing job and both sounded like how I would imagine the characters. Perfect!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for giving me an audiobook to review in exchange for an honest review.

This book follows two college students, Vivi and Scarlett, who are members of Westerley's most elite (and most magical) sorority, the Kappas. I loved the combination of a campus novel with witches, and found the setting and worldbuilding to be really well done. I wasn't a huge fan of the characters; I didn't really connect to any of them and didn't feel as though they were as fleshed out as I wanted them to be. Vivi in particular frustrated me, as I had a hard time understanding her decision making and especially her relationship with her mother. The plot moved along well, and although I did figure out the twist quite early on, I was still pleasantly surprised by the way the author pulled it off in the end.
As for the audiobook, I really loved the narrator. Her voice was pleasant to listen to and she voiced the characters very well.
Thank you to the publisher for sending me a copy of this book to review!

Thank you so much to NetGalley for this audiobook of The Ravens! This for sure has snuck in and made it as a favorite book of the year!
We are following Vivi and Scarlett as they make their way thru a typical college semester. Vivi is the new girl, she’s always been the new girl. She just wants to go to college and have a normal experience. She gets invited to a rush party for the Kappas and every thing changes. Scarlett has it all, perfect boyfriend, a strong sisterhood, and on her way to becoming Kappa president. The two girls meet at a rush party and quickly get off on the wrong foot (because don’t they always). Oh and did I mention that the Kappas only accept pledges if they possess magical ability (aka they’re witches?!)
I absolutely loved everything about this book! It gave me major nostalgia being back in college in my own sorority! I highly recommend to anyone who loves witches, magic or Greek life!
OH AND THERE IS A SEQUEL?!? I can’t even wait!!!

A book about a witch coven disguised as a sorority in the south? Color me intrigued.

Thank you netgalley for the early access to this audibook in exchange for an honest review.

The narrator did well, however I did speed the book up to 2.5X because at normal speed it was too slow. I spent the first half of the book trying to determine if I actually liked the book or not, and it took a while for me to get into it. I enjoyed having two points of view, but I wasn't that invested in any of the characters. I felt like the love triangle aspect was pointless and kind of just thrown in.

Long story short, I did not love it, but I also didn't hate it. I found the book to be.... okay. Will I pick up the next book? Probably. I am curious to know how they will turn this novel into a series.

I read this as part of a book club, so I read it slowly. As someone who is not knowledgeable about or really into tarot or sororities which are 2 really big things in this book, it took me a long time to really get into the book. Reading a few chapters a day I think was a good way to read this because I think otherwise I would have gotten bored. The beginning was very tarot/sorority heavy. I had no idea at all what pledging was, or a rush or anything. My college didn't have sororities so I felt totally out of my league.
I was however totally into the witch part and the sisterhood part. There were a lot of girls in Kappa and we didn't get to know a lot of them, but the ones we did get to know really felt like sisters by the end of the book. Once we kind of got past the explanation of all the tarots, I really liked the magic system in the book. It was very interesting to have the girls have one suit (?) that is their suit, but when all the girls get together they can do basically share their magic and do small spells that are any suit.
While I did like the dynamic of the Kappa girls, the actual characters didn't wow me. I liked Vivi and how she found her place in Kappa. Scarlett's character was what it was supposed to be (entitled) and I just didn't enjoy her as much a Vivi.
There were some twists I definitely didn't see coming. There's such an obvious villain throughout the whole book and then it just totally throws you (in a good way).
It felt like it ended nicely tied up, so I'm interested to see where the second book goes.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book. Witches and sororities - is there a better combination? Really enjoyed the dual POV and liked the breakdown of magic. Looking forward to next book.

The house of Kappa Rho Nu is the home of The Ravens, a group of sorority girls, who also so happen to be a coven of witches. Hopeful pledge Vivi, has never stayed in one place long enough to feel like she belongs, but hopes that she's finally found a new home. Scarlett is part of a legacy family and wants nothing more than to become the new president of Kappa. But, she is hiding a big secret that may threaten her position in the house if anyone finds out.

I absolutely adore witches, so I was so excited when I heard about this book. Not to mention, the cover is gorgeous. There is a bit of an info-dump at the beginning of the story, but as it progressed it was hard to put down. It's very fast-paced and fun to read. It's told in alternating perspectives between Vivi and Scarlett, which was an interesting way to tell the story. I loved trying to figure out the mystery of what happened in the sorority and who was responsible for what. The biggest complaint I had was one of the romances, it felt forced and unnecessary and honestly the love interest was just so bland and boring. It also definitely didn't feel as though this was set in college, more high school in my opinion, but it was still super entertaining and a very quick read!

Kappa Rho Nu, The Ravens, are a typical sorority. They are devoted to each other, pretty popular on campus, and they throw epic parties. Oh yeah, and they’re actually a coven of witches. Scarlett Winter has always known she’s a witch, and there’s enormous pressure from her mother to become the next president of Kappa Rho Nu, and the leader of the coven on campus. Her new “little,” Vivi Devereaux has never had a clue she’s actually a witch. She just knows that she and her mother always seemed to be running from something, moving as soon as Vivi got used to a place, lots of things her mother would never talk about. Scarlett doesn’t think Vivi is true Raven material, but as secrets unfold and the stakes get higher, the two must rely on each other to protect what matters and become true sisters.

I really enjoyed this, and honestly, you had me at witches. I’ve never been a sorority girl, but I am a fan of covens, and the unique stories of their members. I’ll admit, I’d have loved it more if it were queer, but I take what I can get, and the love triangle didn’t ruin it for me, because it was mostly about the witches, a mysterious artifact, and Scarlett and Vivi learning about one another and putting the coven first. Plus, the narration was on point. I definitely prefer female narrators, and Sophie Amoss did a great job of creating a magical, mysterious ambiance throughout the book.

If you’re looking for something cool and fun to add to your holiday reading, or even January or February reading, check this one out.

I listened to “The Ravens” as an audiobook, narrated by Sophie Amoss.

This ticked so many boxes for me – Academia setting, witches, female friendship based – and for the most part I felt engaged and liked the story. For being written by two authors it felt very coherent and you could tell Kass Morgan and Danielle Paige worked well together. As I haven’t read any other book by either author I can’t say if the “voice” of each author was present in this book, but at the same time, if two authors manage to keep the story going and keeps the characters and storyline going between them it’s all good in my book.

We have two main characters – Scarlett and Vivian – who are complete opposites. Scarlett is rich, confident, beautiful and has been brought up in the family witch-tradition making her sure of her abilities. Vivian on the other hand has been constantly on the move her whole life and is therefore insecure about herself. Turns out though, she’s a witch and gets to pledge to a sorority (that’s just a guise for a coven of witches), where Vivian gets everything she’s always dreamed for – friends, a purpose and confidence.

Set at a university campus and in a sorority setting I was first unsure if I would understand everything. I’ve had my university education in Europe and things like sororities and fraternities just doesn’t exist here – but it was well-planned out and made understandable, and it’s more about forming relationships than anything right?
What I would say I disliked was the way the characters just wouldn’t talk to one another which created unnecessary plot points (the kind where you have to press pause for like 10 minutes (or just skip altogether….). Another thing that I would have liked if it was done better was the tone. The characters are all adults – they’re at university – and sure being 19-20 years old and maybe being on your own for the first time ever you are still “children” in a way – but for the character who were in their second or third year of uni, they should at least be a bit more mature and grown-up in my opinion. Maybe this would have been better set in a high school with some prestigious society/club instead?

All in all it was a good story. The narrator was good, although I thought her voice was incredibly slow at normal speed, but at double the speed (or even 2.5 speed OR 3.0 speed) it flowed much better.

ARC provided by NetGalley and RB Media in exchange for an honest review.

A lonely girl who has moved from place to place her whole life with a "weird" mom she thinks is a hoax with her tarot cards and "bad vibes" gets accepted to a college in Georgia and hopes she's finally found a place where she'll belong - despite her mother's warnings about how it's not safe. Said lonely girl just happens to go to a sorority party where her whole life changes. She's now pledging for the sorority, oh and guess what? They're witches. There are a lot of clichés happening within this novel, and the red herrings are pretty obvious.

That being said, it was an enjoyable read and Sophie Amoss does a good job with the audiobook.

I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it, and I did end up getting invested in the resolution. Not sure how this is going to turn into a series....

The Title/Cover Draw:
The cover is pretty minimalistic, but also very intriguing. Lately I have been getting into dark academia books so this was interesting to me. I received this as an audiobook from Netgalley.
What I liked:
The story of the girls, the school, and the mystery element. The story is told in 2 points of view between Scarlett and Vivian.
What I didn’t like:
Parts of the story got confusing, which I am not sure was because of my work flow while listening, the way it was written, or the narrator.
The Characters:
I kept getting the 2 main characters mixed up a lot as the story was back and forth between them. I expected Scarlett to be this typical sorority girl, as she is at the beginning. However, her growth is complex.
The Ending:
Very good ending with a little twist and a setup nicely into book 2. I think the next time though, I will read it instead of listening to it.
Narrator-
There wasn’t a ton of vocal change between the 2 main characters which is probably why it was hard to tell them apart.
Reminds me of:
Greek meets the Craft.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Received from Netgalley.

The narrator was perfect for The Ravens. I highly enjoyed the book just as much, the second time around. 🎧📚🤗

Original Review:

I've stayed up way past bedtime reading The Ravens. I rarely read spooky stuff, especially at night, but I never wanted to put it down. I loved seeing Kass branch out from Scifi and I want to now check out Danielle Paige's other work. The only thing I didn't like so much, was that we switched chapters and viewpoints right when something would happen and then when we came back, we're told instead of shown, what happened. I want a sequel so much and I want more Mason.

Even though I immediately bought my own copy of the audiobook, thank you so much for providing me with a review copy.

I didn't expect to love this one as much as I did!
I'd have been thrilled had it been a 4 star read.

Never having read about witches before, it was a first for me and I'm really looking forward to the rest of the series.

It was beautifully narrated by Sophie Amoss.

Thanks very much RB Media for gifting me via Netgalley.

Thank you NetGalley for the advanced reader copy of The Ravens.
There were so many things about this book that I don’t naturally like in books. I don’t usually like witches or anything to do with sororities but this worked for me. I really like the characters. I like that these people in the sorority became each other’s family. They were willing to do anything for each other. The romance is super cute as well. I would recommend to a young adult audience!

I just reviewed The Ravens by Kass Morgan and Danielle Paige. #TheRavens #NetGalley
