Face of Evil started off slow but if you stick through it trust me you won't regret it. Lydia's character was likable and the romance was a pleasant surprise in the mist of all the crazy things going on in the plot. This book picks up in suspense and drama very quickly but it was such a great read. I am excited to follow this authors journey. I highly recommend.

Talented author Lydia decides to write a story about a killer. But the only way to get to know him is to get closer to him.... and that is where the book starts gripping the reader and doesn't let go until the end! Recommended.

Faces of Evil is the new novel from De’Ath (great surname) which is haunting and captivating whilst feeding the reader with a plot that is interwoven with a sadistic crime not seen since Hannibal the Cannibal.

The plot pretty much speeds out of the starting gate and never lets up until its explosive end. Focussing on Lydia Tune, an author who writes psychological books about real people, decides to take on the Krimson Killer. She tries to get inside of his mind beyond the media circus and finds herself involved in the story more than she anticipated. There is enough twists and turns to keep the reader fully engaged but at the same time, there is a natural feel on how things unfold. Even the big reveal is naturally done without the lets throw this in and hope it is plausible. De’Ath doesn’t do this as the reader is forced to follow the bread crumbs and what seems like information that is not needed, by the end, you realise that they all string together the answer. This is very clever because the reader is not aware that they are part of this journey and being given clues as they are given a chance to put the pieces together along with Lydia.

The characters are strongly written and we see the world through Lydia Tune’s eyes. Although this is written in the third person, the author does a great job getting us into the ambitions, thought processes and background of this character. Alex Gibley is the knight in shining armour in a three dimensional world and the secondary characters are very intricate to the plot and interesting in their own right.

Overall, this is an exciting novel that keeps the reader involved and engaged. Exciting intelligent plot, characters, the reader is totally on board with and an ending that is too exciting to put down. This is a very thought provoking book that haunts the reader long after reading the final word.

Oooo I wouldn’t read this one without the big light on 😂 what a creepy and disturbing book this is! I loved Lydia and the rest of the characters were great too (usually find a lot unlikable 🙈) I loved the gore and thought it had just enough to make you wince but there wasn’t overkill. I cant wait to read more from the author and I’m hoping the next one is on a par with this one, great book one which grips and doesn’t let up until it’s over!!!!

A good, adrenalinic, atmospheric and creepy horror novel that kept me turning pages.
Great atmosphere, good character development and a plot that flow.

Face of Evil has a lot of good points; it's super atmospheric, dark and has bits of gore throughout. The story also reminded me a little of Silence of the Lambs, which is also a win. The story was interesting and kept me wanting to read and was on the way to becoming a 4-5 star review...but then the ending happened. The ending wasn't 'bad' but it left me scratching my head a bit. I can't say much without giving it away.

Lydia Tune is a true crime writer and she's always looking to top her previous book. This time she plans on her biggest book yet. Her target? Jason Devere; a depraved serial killer who's known for his horrific murders. Alex Gilbey (local detective and old friend) tries to warn her away but Lydia never gives up what she wants. She is ruthless, manipulative and beautiful, she feels like she'll be a step ahead of everyone else. Unfortunately for her, that's not what's going to happen.

The more she learns about Jason, the clearer it is there's a lot more to this story than she realized. As the plot twists, danger lurks around every corner. When she's attacked in the parking lot after a visit, she knows it's personal now. Not one to give up easily, she doesn't back down. What ensues is a strange cat and mouse game that will shake Lydia to her core...if it doesn't kill her first.

If you like dark, atmospheric books, you should give this one a read. Maybe you'll have a different take on the ending, but I was just left a little empty from it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Aria & Aries for this ARC.

Good horror novel, horrific enough to made me turn the light on while reading. The story was good and made you want to turn the page over and over again! Fun, but scary, read!

What began as a story about finding out what made a killer tick turns into a novel of shock and horror. Lydia hides her past trauma behind a mask of confidence and power. She has always kept herself from getting to close to anyone. While digging for information on a convicted serial killer, Lydia begins to wonder if he is telling the truth about his reason for becoming a killer. The closer she gets to the truth, the more she questions everything about her life. If you want to know how this amazing novel ends, then you must read the book for yourself...No spoilers here.

Face of Evil is the crazy story of Lydia, a best selling author, and the subject of her new book, serial killer Jason Devere, and how they constantly try to outwit and manipulate each other. At the beginning I didn't like either of these characters and struggled to connect to the story but the further in I got I found myself being dragged more and more into the mental games each one was playing and felt like Jason is actually being held in a secure hospital and Lydia visits him frequently to interview him for her book. The concept had a very Silence of The Lambs Feel to it. I found myself trying to guess what Jason was actually communicating by the small things he said and did, and what his next move might be.
The side story of a romance between Lydia and a local Cop did a great job of softening Lydia's character and made her more likeable. By the time Lydia realised how much danger she had put herself in I was really rooting for her.
The book does have a slow..... very slow, start but I'd say to stick with it as I found it to pay off in the end once the pace speeds up and things start to actually happen.

It took me awhile to get into Face of Evil, but once it picked up, I had a hard time putting it down. I generally enjoy books about serial killers, and this one is a good addition to the genre and has some surprising twists and turns. Thanks to NetGalley and Aria & Aries for giving me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. : )

This was one of those books that I am glad I stuck with, because I ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would. It's very similar to Silence of the Lambs. Lydia (an author) interviews the notorious serial killer, the Krimson Killer, for her new true crime novel. Soon they seem to have a copycat on theirs hands, and Lydia needs Jason's help.

The first half of this book was SLOW. Like, molasses slow. I actually debated with myself on whether I should just call it quits or continue. I gave it a few more chapters, and it picks up the pace halfway through. The second 50% is definitely a lot more interesting than the first half. The other issue I had with it was Lydia is god awful. Seriously, she has to be one of the most unlikable "heroines" I have ever read in a book. Arrogant. Rude. Snotty. Judgmental. I actually thought the serial killer was more likable than she was. 😂

So definitely a bit of a mixed bag, but overall it gets a thumbs up from yours truly.

This was an awesome book I had a slew of books this month that were just so boring - I loved this book from start to finish I would love to purchase and add it to my growing collection.

This was an interesting read although the plot jumped a bit and seemed vague in some aspects. I found it hard to like any of the characters. I’m not sure you were supposed to tbh. A bit of mystery and a bit of horror.

Thank you NetGalley for this arc

Thank you to Netgalley and Aria&Aries for the arc of Face of Evil by George Morris De'Ath.

3 star read- This is a cross between mystery/thriller and horror it did have Silence of the Lambs feels.. This follows Lydia Tune whom is a pyschologist and and successful true crime writer whom in which has decided to combine the two together and start writing a book... about a serial killer of course.. whom is on death row and awaited execution date!

This was a good quick read with a great storyline and characters and was very thrilling, love this!
Recommend 3 Stars ⭐⭐⭐

Lydia Tune is a best seller book writer. She writes books about people who kill. What makes them tick how and why they become killer's. Her next subject is Jason Devere. He is locked in an asylum with four other atrocious killers. Lydia is focused on Jason.
This book was given to me by the publisher through Netgalley. I have been asked to read and review it.
It is an incredible story of mayhem and murder. Murder done in the goriest ways possible. Murder done to men, women and children. It is also about the psychological effects it has on the person writing about these murderers. The depths that their feelings and humanity has to be put on a back shelf. This book is interesting and gets you thinking. Definitely a must read.

I really liked the sound and premise of this book, reminded me so much of the Silence of the lambs. I was so excited to read it and thanks so much to Netgalley, publishers, and the author for the eARC of this book.

I really liked the bloody and gory parts, the descriptions of the crime scenes were great. The atmosphere is creepy and eerie from the get-go and you know something sinister is going to happen. And the climax was super, fast-paced and uber thrilling! Some parts were really enjoyable, but for the most part, this did not work for me sadly. From the first sentence, it felt like I was reading a poetry book, way too many metaphorical descriptions and all the adjectives seemed like fillers. It took away the plausibility of it all for me and made it really hard for me to continue. It’s a slow burn and takes it’s time to catch up to the real story, and while it got there, the dialogues seemed forced and the overall narration just very unreal. I almost gave up on it but glad I didn’t, the story sure picks up towards the end and the all the action at the end makes up for the rest. I think this book sure has potential but probably just needs some retouching, or maybe it just wasn't for me.

I really wanted to enjoy this one, but it was hard to get through. I never connected with the main character, Lydia, she always seemed rude, & was very predictable. For me, it was slow and I found it hard to stay interested.

Well this one I read for my #2021newreleaseschallenge

It was interesting yes, but when I know who the killer is very early on without anyone actually having to say it, well let's say that was a little harsh for me since I was really expecting it to surprise me.

So Let's talk a little about the characters, Jason was definitely a favorite he had so much swag in him, love him as soon as he entered the picture, crazy or not this man was onto something.

Lydia wasn't that bad just a little predictable almost all the time for me, they were moments she did surprise me don't get me wrong but maybe I would have make her a little more independent by the end maybe.

In all the plot was as I say before a bittersweet for me, because the book is 44 chapters long and on chapter 14 I already knew what was the end or the bigger part of the end. so that for me made think if maybe I have problems seriously I mean how did I actually knew almost all the plot before reading it, should be more psycho than I thought.

The other part of the ending didn't arouse too much in me really, more like an afterthought only.

The balance between the little romance like between the characters wasn't half bad was almost comical but it gave a nice undertone to the mix.

Not a bad book if you love the crime thrillers.

This one sounded so good! I love anything in the serial killer genre and though for sure I would love this book. Unfortunately, it was little too slow for me and I really did not like the main character. It was a struggle for me to get through this one. Honestly, I started and stopped so many times ... I read at least 6 books in between each start and stop. I didn't even finish it. I put it down a final time and forgot about it. Sorry.
