I really liked Maybe Charlotte. Charlotte is a great character and mix her with her brother and holy sugar the drama gets funny and intense. The premise is great. I love the hit and miss between Charlotte and Lily, the dance is part of the charm of the book.

The secondary characters are hoot. Charlotte’s brother is beyond funny. I love the Aunt’s companions. I do think that people violate other people’s privacy a lot in this story, but maybe this is a sign of the times. There are actions taken in this story by multiple characters that I would just never think to do and I would just want to go around smacking a lot of people upside the head. Though I will admit there is a response via a car window that I really love and that makes quite an impact (chuckle).

There is humor, cuteness, and of course romance in Maybe Charlotte. I needed an escape from this world much as Charlie needed one from her’s in Maine and McBain provided me with a great one in Maybe Charlotte.

Well in the first few chapters we learn why Charlie Kincaid not only moved to Washington, DC but started insisting everyone start calling her Charlotte. Leaving was the only thing she could think of to avoid her ex-girlfriend. Yes she’d told Madison why she was going and no Madison wasn’t still her GF. If it was just a way to break up, well that would be one thing but her ex also owned a bakery, she’d also named her blueberry tarts after Charlie’s vagina. She was luckly that she had a place to live because her twin brother already lived there. Mind you he was living in a Georgetown guest house owned by their aunt, famed artist Wellesley Kincaid.
On an evening out she meets Lily, a young lawyer. The attraction is immediate but it quickly becomes complicated when Charlotte’s ex makes her way to DC, hoping to revive her relationship with Charlie. Wanting to change her name was not working when everyone she meets insists on calling her Charlie. Now the fun begins.
Fun, fast paced read. Very enjoyable.

Interesting story about woman trying to get away from toxic (I would say) relationship and finding the one. Story about person hurt before who is looking for happy ending. When both collide, they make amazing couple. Both are able to overcome their troubles by fighting for their happiness.
This book has funny parts and some sad. But end is amazing.

I truly enjoyed reading Maybe Charlotte by Louise McBain. After a hectic few weeks getting ready for the holiday season, I needed something to read that was relaxing as well as uplifting, and this book fit the bill perfectly.

This is a lovely romance about two women who have been very unlucky in their past relationships. Both Charlotte (Charlie) and Lily have ex’s who have hurt them in the past, so they are a bit skittish about beginning a new relationship. However, they can’t deny the chemistry they have for each other. If only Charlotte’s ex, Madison, would accept the fact that her relationship with Charlotte is really over.
This is a beautiful (and sometimes steamy) romance with just enough angst to make the story interesting. The setting (Washington, DC) is perfect for the tale since Lily is a budding artist and Charlotte’s aunt is a famous artist in the story. Since there are many art galleries and museums in this area, it provides plenty of venues that could be used in the book.

I loved watching Charlotte and Lily grow as characters through the story. Both had to learn to trust again, and to stand up for themselves. The way they grew in the novel is a good example of creating depth in your characters. I connected with the two at the beginning of the book, but I grew to love them by the end.
Maybe Charlotte is listed as a sequel to Claiming Camille in the blurb, and this book does take place in the same “world” as the former with some of the same characters, but honestly, you could read this book as a standalone if you haven’t read the first one yet. However, both are excellent romance novels, and I recommend you read both in order. I certainly enjoyed them both.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and Bella Books for an honest review.

Louise McBain has been the sweet surprise of 2020 for me! I absolutely adored Claiming Camille, so I found her first book, Sweet Jane, and loved it too.

Like many readers, this year I've had trouble focusing on books unless there's just something extraordinary going on. I've never been a book-a-day reader, but my normal pace is three a week, and it's just been hard to maintain that this year.

What sets Louise McBain apart for me is that her books are so funny, but it's not artificially hilarious sitcom dialogue funny. She sneaks in random observations that maybe some readers don't notice, but I found myself chuckling several times. Some terms that have completely new meaning now are Madness, Charlie Pie, The Geoffrey Problem, and Laurel Jaguar.

I loved the entire cast of characters - not only the MCs Charlotte and Lily, but Charlotte's twin brother Daniel is really a MC too. I couldn't stop envisioning Schitt's Creek's David Rose, and there's some Alexis Rose in Charlotte as well. Maddie, the obsessed ex, and Wellesley and her two house mates all added interest and depth. This book is set in the same universe as Claiming Camille, and although it can totally be read as a standalone I would highly recommend reading Camille first - I loved it so much.

Thank you Louise McBain for hitting my radar this year!

This book was a really pleasant surprise. I’ve been having a difficult couple of weeks and it was nice to have an easy to read book that doesn’t have the usual pull everything apart at 90% thing.

I didn’t realise that this book is a sequel until I’d finished it and I don’t feel like I missed anything by not having read the first book, so I would say that if you haven’t read the first book this one can still be read as a standalone. I’ll definitely be adding it to my TBR list though.

Both of the main characters were interesting in themselves. The book is told from the point of view of Charlie and I did occasionally miss knowing some of the more in-depth feelings on Lily’s part that alternating the point of view would have provided but as a narrative concept it works.

I really enjoyed the fact that this was a page turner full of small but interesting moments. There were some amusing capers that really made the secondary characters shine, including a couple of storyline threads that run through the majority of the book. Charlie’s ex plays a part in the storyline, but even this is done in an engaging way.

One of my favourite parts about this book is the setting. I love DC and spending time there, so it really made me happy that the storyline takes place there. I also really liked the descriptors of art that feature in the book.

Overall this a sweet romance full of moments to keep you interested and great chemistry between the main characters. I’d recommend to all wlw romance fans.

I had a couple of issues with this book - one is that the characters were so out-there that I felt like I was reading a book where all of the characters were playing a part, trying to be funny and outlandish. The other is that I wasn't sure if the book was trying to be a romance or a comedy - or a romantic comedy? I just couldn't relate and my attention often faded while reading.

The book is okay - just not on my "to be read again" list.

This is a book on family, personal growth, love and a refusal to settle for less.

Charlotte (adamant to go by this name rather then the horribly misused Charlie) is over Madison. After a supposed goodbye to her manipulation, Charlotte packed up her bags, moved in with her famous and reclusive artist aunt with her twin brother and started a job where she believed she had a calling for.

When she met Lily whom she determined as something special, she embarks on a journey where she learned to fight off her insecurities, a hovering ex, open herself to the people known as her family and the girl of her dreams.

3.5 stars. The read was a pleasant and sweet one but thought that there were too many characters which took the gloss off Charlotte and Lily's love story.

I just reviewed Maybe Charlotte by Louise McBain. #MaybeCharlotte #NetGalley

Maybe Charlotte by Louise McBain is wonderful!

The book starts off a little slow, but turns into one of the most enjoyable reads I've had in awhile. Charlotte and Lily are both looking for love, but it starts off a little chaotic. The story really explores Charlotte's family and her ex girlfriend Madison, and it turns into this delightful, funny, witty and charming story!

I don't want to give too much away, but the family of Charlotte's twin brother, their great Aunt (and her two male friends), just bring so much heart and love to the story.

I highly recommend this book!

I read to the 50% point of this book and just could not finish. While this book may be enjoyable for some people it was not my cup of tea. I tried to continue to press ahead, but unlike the description which held a lot of interest and hope, the execution fell flat. I did not particularly enjoy either of the main characters and the book was written in a voice that was so hoity-toity that I just couldn’t relate.

This book was, in my opinion, just fine. It's your typical romance but with two women and some interesting characters. My main issue with the book is that I didn't find either of the main characters particularly likeable. I didn't dislike them either, they were just sort of...there for me. I found the background characters *much* more interesting. Aunt Wellesley, Stefano, and Jacob were all a riot that I wanted to know more about. Daniel was tons of fun. My favorite scene in the whole book was the mad escape dash in the car. I found Maybe Charlotte to be overall enjoyable, just for reasons usually other than the couple.

This was good read.

Charlie wants to start a new life away from her ex Madison and the famous Charlie Pie that’s secretly name after her vagina.

Charlie who decides she wants to be called Charlotte moves with her twin brother Daniel to their Aunt Wellesley guest house who is amazing in her own right.

While at a bar with her brother he sign them up to sing which she has a great voice were she watch by Lillian who likes to be called Lily as they meet their instant attraction. When they go their separate ways they can’t stop thinking about each other when they run into each other again they both admit they feels something and want to try but Lily wants to go slow because she was hurt before.

As they get to know each other Charlotte ex Madison comes back into the picture and wants Charlie back and won’t stop until she gets her back as Charlotte tells her it’s never going happen Lily wonders will she gets her heartbroken or will this time be different.

I love the supporting characters Daniel was a trip I like that we got glimpses of previous characters from the first book.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.
