In this book, we already see how the story progresses on Yaya's path, in addition to showing us some beautiful illustrations.
They show how they take different paths and discover things, and they already reach a point in the story.
Probably the most emotionally satisfying of the series so far. Good hearted, while not stinting on showing the consequences of war and the ways in which unscrupulous people can try to take advantage. But there is a very satisfying comeuppance in this volume and some clear progress to happiness for our main characters.
Yaya, a naive child, is running across Shanghai, in search of her parents, and makes it to Hong Kong, because that is where she is told they are, but they aren't.
If that all sounds confusing, it is because this is the eight volume of a nine volume story, and you can't start with this one. Really, you need to start with the first book.
If you have, and have come to this one, just know that the story continues with bad people and good people, and Yaya trying to find her parents.
Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.
