This book should be considered a comprehensive first aid kit to better health. I am a holistic person and was raised with parents and community that supported most of the items recommended in this book. For those without this benefit, I highly recommend for your education to a better lifestyle.. Thanks to NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.
This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.
For the last several years, I’ve been dealing with chronic pain issues that have debilitated me to the point where I can no longer work. Not a fun time. I loved this book even with it’s tough love approach. So many concepts and ideas that I plan on implementing in my quest to fix my health as doctors I see tend to give up so quickly. This book encouraged me and provided so much good information with sources that I feel prepared.
As someone with fibromyalgia I was eager to read this book and I wasn’t disappointed.
I am quite knowledgeable on the topic of inflammation and it’s effect on the body but found this informative and evidence based.
Recommended particularly for those new to the subject.
Thanks to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in return for a fair review.
4 Stars ⭐️
This book provides well-written and accessible guidance around the causes of inflammation our bodies experience as well as helpful ways to mitigate that inflammation. Reducing inflammation has longstanding implications - not only for how we feel and look day-to-day, but also in the wear and tear experienced by our neurologic and vascular systems. This can impact everything from heart disease to dementia, and it's worth spending a little time understanding what inflammation is and how to reduce it.
I noticed many reviewers said they found "nothing new" in this text, but I'm not sure that's a reason to criticize or dismiss it. I don't think the physician authors were trying to say something new and innovative that had never been done before; rather, I think they were trying to take a vast body of knowledge and conflicting info, sort through it, and pull out the data-driven and personally tested knowledge that would be most relevant for those looking to improve their health. The health/science/medical landscape on the internet and in contemporary literature is full of contradicting and confusing statements, so a book like this is a valuable resource.
Sometimes the most common sense and simple statements really do make a difference in our health - eating a low-inflammatory diet, getting enough sleep, managing stress, etc. This was a beneficial read even for someone like myself who is well-versed in contemporary lay and professional literature on health and medicine.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
Thank you to Net Galley and to the publisher for the opportunity. My review opinion is my own.
I found this to be a very informative helpful book on educating myself about inflammation. i like that the author focuses on science of diet and how a plant based vegan lifestyle can ease inflammation to our bodies. There is much science to back this up and it is clearly the right path to better health and less inflammation. As a vegan I can attest that the way you eat does make a remarkable difference in your health.
I recommend this book for all who suffer from inflammation and are seeking improvement in their health. Very well done to the author.
Is it new information? No, not necessarily. But it is information people need, information I need to remember, presented in an interesting and informative way. It’s also interactive in the way it asks questions and really makes you think and apply to your own life, putting you in charge of the changes you need to make to keep your body healthy and whole. This is a book to digest, not to read quickly and toss aside for the next book. It’s a book to savor, then return to again and again to build upon your health and help free your body from inflammation. Highly recommend.
Body on Fire is a comprehensive primer for reducing inflammation. Modern Western lifestyles have resulted in increased instances of inflammation and countless chronic illnesses have arisen as a result. The authors do a great job of covering off on the various factors that can cause the body to become inflamed - from diet to stress to lack of exercise. They also provide examples of how healthy alternatives can be incorporated into daily life to begin the process of healing. I found quite a few tactics I plan on incorporating into my own life.
The analyses are supported by evidence and studies, which is reassuring for the reader. However, at times this causes it to read like a textbook. I tried reading before bed as is my habit, but I couldn't keep my eyes open long enough to make much progress. It took me a lot longer to get through this book than it normally would because I kept losing focus. It's definitely better read when one is fully alert and in a mindset to absorb the content.
Also, it seems like a lot of the content is based on diet. Of course, diet plays a large role in overall health, so it makes sense that it would comprise such a large portion of the text, but at times it seemed like the book was just going to be nothing more than an argument for a vegan lifestyle. For many, this may be too drastic of a lifestyle change, so they may be dissuaded from finishing the book. I suggest sticking with it because there is beneficial advice beyond diet and there are small dietary changes that can make a big difference. Overall, there is a lot of sound advice contained within these pages, so it's a valuable book for anyone experiencing chronic illness and/or inflammation.
This is a great book for someone starting the journey of lowering inflammation in their body to help overall health. This book contains a lot of good knowledge that would help a beginner start to navigate the cause and effects of inflammation and how to choose better habits to support lowering inflammation in their lives.
This is a clear, succinct introduction to how to fight inflammatory conditions and improve overall health with lifestyle changes. The doctors bring their personal experience and passion to this work, giving practical steps and evidence-based details that can benefit any reader. The best part: this information gives patients agency over their health. Lifestyle medicine works!
There really isn't any new information in this book, and it isn't an enjoyable read. This is a portion of the wellness sector that is overcrowded to begin with, and nothing about this stands out.
This is a pretty good self help book. I'd probably give a 3.5 rather than 4 though.
It's a well thought out and thorough book, and I think if you have just been diagnosis with a chronic health condition this book is a good place to start. It gives you a lot of information, which in the least is helpful, from changing your diet to exercise.
But, it does depend on what your chronic illness is, exercise can make some worse. So perhaps they needed to expand better on that.
Not all chronic illness is caused by stress either, the book describes that there is two types of stress 'Eustress' and 'Distress' basically good stress and bad stress, and these trigger your chronic stress response, then you get chronic illness. Somehow for many of us its just that not simple.
Though we must live by the rules of optimism, I think that applies to everyone. We must recharge, I think more often than not we have forgotten how to do this, especially with the pressures of modern society and family life. We must and should take time for ourselves, recharge our bodies with good healthy food, rest, sleep, laughter and play.
One last thing I would like to point out about the book, it mentions about the herb Rosemary and how we should be using it. There is no cautions for it, why I wonder? When it can bring on epileptic seizures, which is a chronic health condition……
However, it is, well written and very informative book, with lots oh health and dietary information in.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This book was informative but still easy to follow.
Interesting information overall.
This is a pretty good book on inflammation and how it affects so many systems in the body. None of it was new information to me but I read a lot on the topic. Much of the advice is the standard -- reduce stress, get enough sleep, cut out refined carbs and sugars, exercise, etc. but it is very thorough. It is written from a plant-based perspective so there is a focus on giving up all animal products too. It's one of the better resources on inflammation that I've read recently and I appreciate that it was written by medical doctors.
I read a digital ARC of this book for review.

Body on Fire by Monica Aggarwal, MD & Jyothi Rao, MD is an in-depth guide on how inflammation affects the body and what you can do about it.
I found this to be an exceptional resource on inflammation. For the past year, I have been working to improve my gut health through supplements and I'm so grateful for the improvements I've felt overall to my body. I used to suffer from chronic pain and I feel, because I reduced my overall inflammation in my body, I'm not in pain anymore.
I really enjoyed taking this deep dive into inflammation and what other things I can do to lessen the inflammation in my body. I look forward to implementing some of these tips and seeing what improvements I experience.
This is a great resource for someone who is looking to improve their overall wellbeing! I definitely recommend reading this!

This book is full of useful information, but it’s not anything new; give up sugar and refined carbs. I feel like I’ve read several books in the topic and they basically all say the same thing. For anyone who is new to reading about chronic illness and inflammation, I imagine they would probably find this book helpful.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for sending me an ARC.
I am loving this book. It’s so informative without being too complex to understand. I’ve read quite a lot of books on nutrition and some are too overwhelming in their context. This book is not like that. It explores the relationship between diet, environmental and stress factors influencing inflammation in the body and what we can do to prevent this from occurring. There’s so much illness and I think people assume illness is a way of life. This book educates us to show that we don’t have to suffer and there is a solution other than tablets to enable a happy life well into old age, that isn’t consumed with illness.
This book is a revelation for anyone curious about the human body and how to keep it healthy and at its peak performance. Modern medical treatment is often unable to address certain chronic illnesses, especially may female reproductive health conditions which are linked to inflammation, the knowledge provided in this book gives an insight on how to reduce the elements that contribute to such chronic illnesses, at least the elements which are under human control such as food and sleep patterns.
While there is a lot of content regarding such issues out on the internet, mostly created by holistic health experts or individuals who have suffered through illnesses and found alternative paths to control their conditions. But this book gives the perspective of Medical Doctors, thus giving some amount of scientific credibility to the information which is not just fascinating, but also has the ability to help a large number of people.
If you are someone who lives with chronic pain and illness, especially someone who's newly diagnosed, this could be an informative book for you to check out.
The authors are doctors, and they lay out ways the reader can help lower inflammation, a driving force behind many chronic pain conditions. Thus far, it's largely been holistic doctors who discuss this, but some conventional doctors are starting to acknowledge it, as well, including the importance and impact of sleep, stress, hydration, etc.
For someone who has lived with chronic pain and illness for some time, this information will likely not be new.
Items are presented in a clear manner, and it's not preachy, so it could be helpful for those recently diagnosed.

#Body on Fire. I guess since I been in Cronic pain so long I should have known I was not going to find help in a book. I read this book because of all my nerve dammage. I was in hope of learning something new. However there are some this book will be good for. Just not me.
