Let me start by saying that, once again, I did not realize that this was #3 in a series. I have not read books 1 and 2 and it truly did not make a difference. Ms Carr did a great job getting me up to date on the Boots family without being repetitive.

I thoroughly enjoyed the writing and I will be looking for more from Deborah Carr.

Many thanks to Netgalley and One More Chapter for this advanced readers copy. This book released in February 2021.

I didn't realize this was the third of a trilogy about Mrs. Boots. I enjoyed the read and will go back and read the others. She is one amazing lady, very allegiant to England, and her family.. The research behind the story was tremendous. Well written. Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the opportunity.

Mrs Boots Goes to War is the third book in the Mrs Boots Trilogy by Deborah Carr. It can be read as a standalone but I think if you really want to know all that there is to know about what she and Jesse (Mr Boots) have gone through then you should read the first two books as well.

I loved the previous books, they had the perfect blend of light and dark moments. This book unfortunately verges more to the side of dark moments. That should be expected though considering this book is set during WW1. The topics it covered were very serious ones and I will admit that I felt a bit down by the time I finished reading it. That said, I am glad that I did read it. We can't ignore what people endured during the war and the fact that this story is very much based on fact really brought home just how much suffering there was. Of course, there were some light moments, times when Mrs Boots, or as she is now, Lady Boots, positively radiated with happiness. Those times mainly involved seeing her family.

This was a very well written book that captivated me from beginning to end. Mrs Boots and her husband did so much for people, and I love how Mrs Boots consider her staff as her girls. She was an absolute paragon of strength and determination even when sometimes she just wanted to sit alone and sob. This book doesn't have a single dull moment and even if I did end up feeling down, the book had a positive ending leaving me glad that I read it.

This is the third in the series of war time sagas and the lives of the Boots empire. Very well written and well worth a read. If you like sagas then you will enjoy this book. I did and I am giving it 5 stars.

This book is based on the true story of the Boots empire, following Florence and Jesse Boots. I haven’t read the first two books in this series so I was unsure as to whether I would be able to pick up the story adequately. I absolutely loved it, I’m definitely going to read the first two books in this series. It’s a beautifully written book with maybe a taste of Downton Abbey. I think that I enjoyed it immensely as I knew that it was based on true life and very interesting to know how the Boots chemist started. I would highly recommend this book and I was so thankful to Netgalley for inviting me to read and review this brilliant book.

This is the third book in the Mrs Boots series, but it could be read as a standalone. I think this is the best book yet.

I've not read many books set in the 1914 war and so was interested firstly in the book from that point of view. The book covers the war from the perspective of the Boot family in Nottingham and their employees and the impact it has on all their lives and of course the Boots business. I found it to be well written with attention to detail and historical accuracy.

I felt myself feeling parallels to the pandemic we are living through at the moment when certain scenes were described. Towards the end of the book obviously the Spanish flu pandemic strikes in 1918, and it really did feel very comparable to the world we are living in today.

Whilst I knew a lot of WW2 domestic and social history I knew very little of the WW1 background. The author really brought alive the era with many local place names familiar to me. I hadn't realised the role Chilwell ammunition factory played in WW1 or the working conditions that had to be endured. I think anyone would find this interesting but me for it had a special resonance with being a local area.

Once again Mrs Boots (or Lady Boot as she is by now) proves how much of a driving force she was for change and in the compassionate treatment of staff. I really liked reading the most about the interactions of her with the staff at Boots.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book

This is not the sort of book that I would initially choose in a shop or the library, but it is a beautifully written historical novel which I enjoyed. Looking forward to reading Deborah's previous two books in the series.

I really enjoyed this series of books as I never knew anything about the family behind Boots and how it got started. It seems that Florence was born before her time and certainly went on to prove that women were more capable than they were given credit for in that . I’m not sure how much of her story in this book is fictionalised around the real story but it’s well written and interesting and well worth checking out.

Third book in the series absolutely brilliant. Mrs Boots watches her son go to war and it is heartbreaking emotional but you can feel all the feelings they are feeling. Brilliant series

In this third book of the Mrs Boots trilogy, it is set during World War I, and her son has just enlisted. Rather than sitting back and feeling powerless, which is not at all Mrs. Boot's style, she goes on a mission to do all she can to aid in the war movement, from the sidelines. Florence Boot, wife of the founder of the famous Boots pharmacies, was a force to be reckoned with, and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know her through these books. I highly recommend this inspirational book to anyone who enjoys historical fiction.

Many thanks to HarperCollins UK and NetGalley for seeking me out to read this book. I've not read the first two in the trilogy but I didn't feel like that took away from the plot of Mrs Boots Goes to War. I will, however, be ordering the first two in this series to have the entire collection.

This book is beautifully written about the Great War. So many historical fictions are written about WWII so this one about the first World War was a nice change of pace for my reading. This novel is a mixture of fiction and nonfiction which I find incredibly inspiring. I found myself researching the Boots Family and was so impressed with their generosity.

Those who love historical fiction, strong female protagonists, and inspirational families will not be able to put this one down!

What an arresting and lovely book! I am ashamed to admit this was my first by this Deborah Carr but am absolutely smitten with her beautiful storytelling so am seeking out every single book she has written. Set in England just before, during and for a time following WWI, this book details the inspiring acts of the philanthropic Florence and Jesse Boot, the owners of the infamous Boots empire.

In a wonderful mix of fiction and nonfiction, we are taken into the lives of Florence and Jesse as well as their three adult children as they navigate the war in different ways. The Boots' kindness and compassion are legendary but I knew no more than that. So inspiring and refreshing to learn more! They put their words into action...immediately. When they saw a need, they were there. Not only did they take an exceptionally uncommon interest in their employees they wanted them to have a happy and safe place to work. Florence generously gave gifts and hampers to those who needed them without drawing any attention to herself and amazingly covered taxi and funeral costs! Much more, too. My occupation used to be in Human Resources and this woman is unbelievably inspiring to me.

We see decisions the three Boots children made to help during the war and the effects on them and their parents. The interwoven stories are breathtaking. The book inspired me to research this unusual family.

All Historical Fiction readers, particularly those who enjoy reading about compassionate female mentors, ought to read this.

My sincere thank you to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for allowing me the privilege of reading this enchanting book! It enriched my day.

This was a really pleasant read and I enjoyed witnessing the Great War (WWI) from a privileged British Lady point of view rather than the battlefields for once.

I discovered who were the people behind the Boots chemists empire and how Florence Boot was a truly inspiring person. A person with the welfare of her employees at heart, fighting discrimination and helping those in needs every time she got the chance. Even if she wasn't keen on participating to the Suffragettes movement, she was a true feminism champion and empowered as many women as she possibly could.

When the war started, the whole Boot family was determined to help in anyway they could. Florence and Jesse Boot' son John enlisted to go and fight in France, their daughter Margery decided to set up a canteen in Northern France to comfort the men being sent back to the UK after battles, and Jesse developed his company exponentially to produce as many useful products for the men fighting the war as they could. From gas masks to water sterilizing tablets, they really made a difference.

A truly inspiring story, especially given the times we live in. When faced with adversity, people should all strive to be as resourceful and helpful to each other. We are living through similar times but this book was a great reminder that we could be in a much worse situation. We face the same distress to not be able to be with our loved ones, but at least we are spared the horrors of the war that they had to live through on top of a deadly flu.

This continues the story from the previous book, Mrs Boots of Pelham Street, from just before World War One and through it.
Again the story is centred around Florence and Jesse and their family. Their son, John, volunteers to join up and go to France to fight there. Others do what they can to help in their own way. Back in Nottingham Boots has to change to reflect the new situation and do what they can to help with the war effort. Again Florence's care for those who work for the company is clear and her worry as the men go off to war and the women to work in the munitions factories. It also touches on social issues at the time, such as women getting the vote, and how the terribly wounded men are received when they return from the front. Overall a book to read and ponder upon and reflect that even in today's troubled times that we are still better off than they were back then.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.
