This is my first read from Angie Fox, a copy was received courtesy from NetGalley. I struggled with this book, had to stop a few times and restart again. The premise of this book was very promising to me, however I find this first book sorely lacking. Lacking in what, I'm not really sure as it failed to grabbed my attention. Some of the humour in this book felt a tad flat but all is not lost, I still would recommend this book for those who enjoys reading fantasy paranormal romance.
I really wanted to like this book more. I grew up watching M*A*S*H* with my grandpa, and when I saw a book with romance and a mythical M*A*S*H* theme, I was all in.
It's not that I didn't enjoy this book, because I did! The characters were great, the dialogue was super funny, and all the little nods to the show warmed my heart. The world building is good, and the world itself is so interesting. I loved all the different mythologies and creatures. It's just...I REALLY hate the fated mates trope. And that has nothing to do with the author or writing, and everything to do with me.
Loved it, definitely not the MASH I grew up watching with my dad. What happens when the old gods and new gods fight for control and humans are just tools to use for their own amusement. Why don’t the gods want the war to end they have a prophecy but they will kill anyone that fits the description of the savior. Can one doctor and a dimi god save the world. I can’t wait to read the next book. I definitely recommend this book
Meh, this one just didn’t do it for me. I skimmed the whole second half. It was predictable and the characters were one dimensional. I didn’t like Petra. She was annoying and stubborn. The parts that were supposed to be funny fell flat for me. Just not for me.
This was an absolutely awesome book - it had its flaws, don’t get me wrong, but awesome nonetheless.
This book is about a women, Petra, who was initially a paranormal doctor in New Orleans. She was involuntarily conscripted to be a M.A.S.H surgeon in the war between Gods. She spends her days patching up the wounded and the dying, and the day was just a regular day until, Galen the demi- god from Delphi is rushed into surgery. Dying from a fatal wound, Petra rushes to save his life. Galen’s spirit starts to slip from body, and Petra puts everything on the line to save the gorgeous man. She slips his spirit back into his body, putting herself and her secret at risk of exposure. Petra can see spirits, an ability forbidden by the gods, and punishable by death if she is discovered. After Galen’s life was saved, and knowing Petra’s secret, he is convinced that Petra is the healer prophesied to end the almighty war between the old and new gods.
This book captures a great element of humour; some of it was a little cheesy, but if you go into the book with a lighthearted nature, you’ll really enjoy the story. Some parts of the book was a little rushed and under developed but nothing that stands out majority. The writing was easy to follow and the story had great flare and some awesome characters. Would 10/10 recommend, and I can’t wait for the next book!
Thank you to NetGalley and Angie Fox for giving the opportunity to review this ARC of The Monster M.A.S.H. This review is posted on NetGalley, and GoodReads as of the 9th of December 2020
Dr. Petra Robichaud was drafted into the immortal war against her will. Now she is assigned to a M*A*S*H* camp with a nosy sphinx guard, a vegetarian werewolf, a vampire, and a demi-god. When a demi-god ends up on her operating table fatally wounded she is determined to save him, even if it means risking discovery.
When I saw that this was a paranormal version of M*A*S*H* with gods and other supernaturals, I instantly was hooked. This book was equal parts serious and silly. There is a prank-war going on in the amp to see who can get the commander. There are hidden pets that keep multiplying. Oh, and there is a prophecy that will lead to the end of the war between the old gods and the new gods. So lots of things were going on in this book but it was a great mixture of fun and seriousness.
Petra is part fae and had lived a pretty normal human life until she was recruited. Now she is stuck in Limbo for the rest of her life patching up paranormal soldiers. Petra is a very bull headed woman. She has to see things to believe it which is why she struggles with accepting her part in the prophecy. Galen had to keep encouraging her to believe in herself, or at least him and his abilities. I liked Petra but do wish we had seen more of her ability to see ghosts, which is only seen in the very beginning of the story.
Galen was our demi-god warrior that Petra saved. I liked him. He was supportive, sweet, and an overall great person. He gave stuff away to others at camp. He encouraged others to have hope and to believe in themselves. I really loved how sweet he was throughout this book, even when he was going to his death.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I will be continuing the series because I want to see what is going to happen next for Petra and Galen.
Oh my gosh this book is a hoot! It’s going to be a must have for any library! Think MASH with Alan Alda but in a supernatural way. When Petra saves a Demi- God the ends up on her table in her MASH unit, she is in for more then she bargained for. A handsome God , 2 crazy bunk mates and a knife that won’t leave her alone, then there’s the prophecy!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley, the opinions expressed in this review are completely my own
I received an ARC from Netgalley. I am leaving my honest review.
The old gods are engaged in a long term battle with the new gods. Petra, a mostly mortal doctor, was conscripted and assigned to a MASH unit. There she meets demi god Galen. Together they work to fulfill a series of prophecies that may end the war.
The Monster MASH doesn't break new ground. The plot is predictable and the characters rather generic. References meant to be humorous instead come across as trite.
Despite its flaws this is a quick, pleasant read.
I enjoyed this book. It's different from anything that's out there. I liked the characters and how they interact. I can't wait until the next one comes out. #TheMonsterMASH #NetGalley
Petra was drafted into the army of the gods. All she is hoping is that she will be able to keep her darkest secret.. that she has the gift which makes her see the dead. This is a forbidden gift, if the one that will get her killed once found out.
Galen can’t let go of what he saw and felt when Petra saved him. He thinks she and him are the ones to save the world, as the prophecy says.
This was a truly great story, and I will definitely continue reading this series I have already pre ordered the next book.
I can tell that a lot of time has been put into this book by the world building. The story was unique, funny with a good amount of romance in it.
I’m planning on checking out other books from this author.
