Beautiful pictures and a great book that encourages parents to talk to their children while discovering the hidden heroes. In this day and age, it’s nice to see the heroes that were shown in this book.
10 Hidden Heroes is a beautiful picture book that teaches children about daily heroes in their lives. Each page shows a different setting and features different ways to help and be a "hero." Each page will prompt discussion about the professions and actions shown. I loved that this book empowers children to be kind and help others.
Thank you Loyola Press and NetGalley for providing this ARC.
The illustrations in this book are colorful, vivid and engaging. The text invites children to find people in its pages. There is a guide at the end of the book that lets children know what they are looking for.
If you know a child who enjoys search and find books, they may well enjoy this sweet book with a gentle social message. Take a look.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.
This is a great book to read with a preschool class or young children at home. Each page gives you a seek and find adventure to find people who are helping others. Whether it's putting on sunscreen, checking out books, or picking up trash, the colorful illustrations make them easy to find. I especially liked this book because it addressed faiths of many different types of people and included the awesome Special Olympics. At the end of the book it gives the child a challenge to be a hidden hero and a certificate to print out.
The concept of this book is really a great idea. Kids learn about heroes in the classroom so I think looking at those within the community is extremely important. The illustrations and images are vibrant and overall beautifully done. !
Beautifully illustrated, this book reminds me of our daily heroes. As a child, I also want to be someone special: strong, dependable, with superpowers, who help people instantly, But didn't we have them aplenty near us?
The doctors and nurses who work relentlessly to help people get better. None wear cape, of course, but they might work without proper rest to kept people alive. Teachers and other educators as well, even though paid, some of us works overtime without being paid when grading the pupils' papers, for example.
This book reminds us about those heroes, whom we thought ordinary, but do extraordinary things too.
I love the concept of this book for kiddos especially during the times we're currently living. Its a great way to shine a light on those who are true heros within our community!
What a great way to teach children about appreciation. Emergency responders such as firefighters and police officers generally tend to get most of the attention when it comes to everyday heroes, however this book provides the bigger picture for children to observe and respect people in different occupations. A true gem.
This is a fun, engaging, and inclusive book for little ones that talks about everyday heroes. It's very interactive and great for little ones learning to count and those who love to find things in busy pictures.
Many thanks to Loyola Press and NetGalley for the advance copy.
I think this is my favourite children's book of 2021 so far. The illustrations are vibrant and one could spend ages enjoying what each page has to offer in addition to searching for the heroes. There are plentiful opportunities for counting practice and discussion. The certificate at the end of the book is perfect for encouraging the young reader to think about what they could do to be helpful in their circle. It's a beautifully presented and thought through book. 5/5 from me. With thanks to Netgalley, publisher and author for offering a digital copy in exchange for my honest review.
Unfortunately I was not able to download this book on my Apple phone, but my son came to my rescue with his iPad. What a delight! Vibrant pictures, fun hidden heroes throughout and the timely message of just who our everyday heroes are. Such a great book for children of all ages. We are never too young to look for the heroes!
My computer/phone/kindle would not open this download. It’s too bad it looked like a fun read.Hopefully one day it will be fixed.
I liked this concept for this book a lot! I had a hard time downloading it and when I got it the format was hard to read, but I liked what I could see and I can't wait to read it in person next year. I think this will be a great community book.
The interactive nature of this book was extremely appealing to my young readers. They enjoyed finding all of the helpers and discussing what each individual was doing and why it was helpful. We liked the variety of heroes that were recognized in this book, especially children with disabilities. Inclusion is very important to us and this book had it all! We would have rated this book higher, had the imagery not been so overfilled and confusing to young readers. Some pages had more than the allotted # of heroes, from a young reader’s perspective.
It could have been a really fun book, but it was so hard to actually read in the format provided. I could only see one page at a time. Other than that I liked it. It was a cute concept
"10 Hidden Heroes" is a delightfully illustrated storybook from Loyola Press, a Catholic publishing house, aimed at children 3-8.
Each page spread features a brief rhyme that encourages kids to seek and identify everyday helpers, like "Six hidden heroes, teaching others to read. Getting books in lots of hands, that is how to lead!" One of the rhymes does include giving thanks and praising God, and it's nice to see the illustrations represent a variety of religions and ways to worship. Overall, there seems to be a good amount of diversity in the characters throughout the book.
One element that threw me a bit was the integration of real charity logos, namely the Peace Corps, Special Olympics, Save the Children, and Best Buddies. Permissions to do so are credited on the back cover. For a children's book, I think I would have preferred that this "branding" wasn't included.
The story ends on a cute note, encouraging kids to be the final hidden hero themselves. A hero award is included where they can draw themselves and describe what they'll do.
Ever read a children's book and find yourself feeling jealous that such a book wasn't a part of your childhood? Well, this book will induce the same feelings. It is not common for a children's book to get the three 'I's -- Idea, Implementation and Illustrations -- perfectly correct. There is always some or the other aspect that they could have worked better on. But in this book, I can't find a single point to complain about.
Idea: How to teach children to see heroes in day to day life. Is it just superheroes who can be heroes? this book shows why not.
Implementation: A simple seek-and-find book where the children will search for the hidden heroes amid the illustrations using the poetic clue given.
Illustrations: Colourful, cute, and connectable to the children.
This is a whole-hearted 5 star rating from me.
I absolutely loved 10 Hidden Heroes!!! 10 Hidden Heroes teaches kids how we all can impact our world for good. It even has an award that can be given to the child for helping others at the end of the book. This book would be great to teach kids in classroom settings or at home about community and how they can be a part of it no matter their age. Thank you to Net Galley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book! (This review is also on GoodReads.)
