A fun way to introduce little ones to the fame of the Fab Four. This book tells about the very beginnings of the band, how they each came together and formed The Beatles as we know them, skyrocketing to stardom. The illustrations weren't really my vibe for a children's book, but it does fit the era. A nice book overall.
Children’s biographies are pretty popular and the market is close to being saturated, but I really liked this look at the Beatles. None of the information is new, but I like how they illustrated the book in the theme of The Yellow Submarine (A Beatles song). It works well together and creates a pretty successful biography of a big band.
As a look at The Beatles, this book does a decent job of capturing the spirit of the band for the intended audience, 4-7 year old kids. As a book on the power of friendship, it does better, using the relationship of the four Beatles to show how friends rely on each other, boost each other up, balance each other's personalities, and provide camaraderie for each other. While the facts presented about The Beatles are sometimes not exactly right or leave out nuances, the lessons of friendship are good. The artwork, though- loved it! Super groovy!

This is such a cute book about the Beatles and it brings attention to a once oh-so-popular-rock-band to the young generations.
I grew up in the 80s when my parents talked about the Beatles and I have recently introduced few famous songs by the band to my 7yo. A picture book with the band's brief history definitely is something my son enjoys and appreciates. The book is easy to understand and the illustrations are colorful. I myself think this is a wonderful non-fiction about music that almost dictated the 60s.
Do note this is only a mini introduction about the Beatles that leans more towards John and Paul. If the book includes a complete album discography would complete this mini biography.
Our family truly enjoys this wonderful picture book!
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* Cute kids book about how they formed the band, liked the artwork
This is a fun book to introduce children to the beatles. I loved being able to read about theor beginnings. It would be fun to read this to a group of kids and then have a party- play Beatles music, have cute Beatles themes snacks (a yellow submarine cookie perhaps), and play games.
For all those who love the “Fab Four,” this children’s picture book follows the band’s journey from inception to break-up. The illustrations are bright and colorful, reminiscent of the film the “Yellow Submarine.” The story shares a bit of the joy of the 60’s and the love that many parent’s and grandparents have for this band. It also shares a bit of the culture and history that was so important to an entire generation. Missing from the book are any of the song lyrics that would encourage sing-a-longs and make it a fun read. Further die-heart Beatles’ fan might disagree with some of the facts as presented, but in a children’s book perhaps “all you need is love.”
In the last year we have had a number of books on music greats for young readers, from the history of rock, to picture books written with the words of iconic songs and books on individual musicians, the likes of David Bowie, Prince, Dolly Parton and John Lennon.
This is a great opportunity for parents and grandparents to share their love of the Beatles with the little people in their lives. Read how four individual musicians met, formed a band and went on to become one of the biggest, most popular musical groups in history.
Get out your old vinyl, CDs or download a playlist, because you will want to sing along and relive your memories of the music after reading this one.
We Are the Beatles is a fun, little picture book all about the famous British band.
I think this is a great, little read with goofy pictures to introduce young readers to the Beatles. It is definitely not the be all, end all of biographies, but it's a great start! It's colourful (which seems fitting, if you've seen some of their music videos and covers), and has a small introduction to the entire band.
This is an excellent, picture book resource for some information about The Beatles.
Three out of five stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
This picture book was fun and lively. The pictures were also really nice. It's a great read for 6-9 year olds.
We Are The Beatles by Zoe Tucker is part of a series entitled Friends Change the World, a collection of picture books that celebrate the power of friendship. This is the story of how four lads from Liverpool who, through talent, determination, and friendship, became the collective voice of a generation, and one that endures today. While the book is aimed at a 4-7 year old demographic, the uplifting story and colourful illustrations will appeal to readers of any age, particularly the Beatles fan, and those seeking a little nostalgia. 4.5 stars
Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Wide Eyed Editions for the opportunity to read an ARC of this title.
My Beatles loving preteen son really enjoyed this book. Great illustrations! Thank you for the chance to preview it.
"We Are The Beatles" is a funny little picture book that tells a story of how The Beatles came to be. The visuals are absolutely stunning and very fitting the general aesthetics of the band. Overall, it's a great children's book to kindle the little ones' love for one of the greatest bands of the 20th century.
I wanted to read We are the Beatles because I grew up with a mother who LOVES The Beatles, who was a hippy and who learned English to know what The Beatles sang. She would get me this book if I had children and I would enjoy sharing it with these imaginary kids I have.
I absolutely adored the illustrations, reminiscent of the Yellow Submarine era. I think the gorgeous bright colours would appeal to kids and to their parents who would (should) recognize the style. It was all about how they became friends and became one of the biggest band ever. There was no inappropriate subject matter (sex or drugs – fortunately since it’s a children’s book), but there was so much missing, to the extent of being too tame for who they were and what happened.
Of course, since this book is part of the series Friends Change the World, it makes sense that friendship was the main theme. I was still a little disappointed, because The Beatles has such a rich history and it was glossed over to fit with the friendship theme. I also thought the full synopsis was a transformation of a children’s book into a very short book for adults.
NetGalley provided an ARC of this picture book for an honest review.
We Are The Beatles is expected to hit the shelves on January 12th, 2021.
Who doesn't know The Beatles? My dad was a fan, and I listened to their songs since I can remember! Starting out as a duo in the famous Penny Lane in Liverpool, UK, this group become a four members superstars known to the world. Each got their talents, but as a group, they did magic! They wrote their songs and sung them, unlike other singers.
I have reviewed this book from three perspectives - mine, my elder kid (age 9) & my younger one (age 6). We have all heard about the Beatles before (I am a huge fan, my elder one plays some songs by them on the piano & my little one has heard a few songs.). My younger kid & I read the book together while my elder one listened in.
My perspective. I liked the gorgeous, colourful illustrations. The book was a decent length to read along with. But the sentences ran for too long & were complex for younger children to understand. So I had to pause & explain them. Overall, I liked the book though.
My elder daughter's perspective. She liked the colour in the illustrations, especially the last panel. She liked the short length of the book as well. Her one complaint was that it was difficult to figure who was who in the panels. Overall, she liked the book because it gave her some knowledge about the Beatles & their struggles.
My younger daughter's perspective. Again, the colours & drawing style kept her interested. She was engrossed throughout the story. But she couldn't figure out the order in which she should read the panels sometimes. There were a few words that needed explanations and some sentences needed breaking up. We also found a typo, which amused the children. Overall, she loved the book and wants to read more like them.
I enjoyed this picture book biography. It was very age appropriate and gave appropriate information about the Beatles. I think all elementary age students would enjoy this book. I look forward to seeing if there are others or if it is a series.
They were before my time, but I love the Beatles so this little book is just perfect for me. It's a cute story about how they met and became one of the best and most famous bands ever. The bright pictures are lovely and fit the story very well.
This book was a redundant and quick exploration into the formation of The Beatles for kids. Interesting perspectives, but overall did not say anything out of the ordinary.
We Are the Beatles is a fantastic way to introduce young kids to The Beatles. It is written in such a simplistic manner to where elementary age and younger children can understand it. The illustrations are so bright and vibrant that it transports the kids back into the 1960's and gives them a feel for the time period. This book would be great for use in a music education setting or to pass on one's love of The Beatles to the younger generation. Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book! (This review is also on GoodReads.)
