This is a great book to add to my collection. I’m not a great sewist but the collection in this book was very easy to make. I can’t wait to do more project and buy a hard copy to share with my mother.

There is something in this book for everyone— whether across the age spectrum or within various stages of life. The instructions are well-illustrated and the projects are pretty and practical. The items presented in this book are not only great for personal use but they also make wonderful gifts.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book provided by the publisher and Net Galley but the thoughts expressed are my own.

Great book, especially in the current climate. Numerous projects including face masks, scrub caps, slings, fidget blanket and Walker caddy are included with very clear, step by step instructions as to how to make them. A detailed introduction to sewing equipment is given, with clear instructions on basic techniques such as how to sew on buttons with and without shanks before describing how to make the projects. At the back there are patterns for all the projects. I so wish I had had this book when my friend was ill with dementia. If I could have made the fidget blanket using fabrics familiar to her I think she would have loved it! All in all a very useful book whether to make items for local hospitals, poorly friends, or for own use.
I did think the front cover looked a bit dated, but that is personal taste.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me access to a digital copy of this book.

I received a free eARC from the author/publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a fantastic resource for sewers of any level. It has a variety of projects from a variety of face masks, to scrub caps, to a wheelchair/walker caddy.
It starts off with an overview of the materials and tools you need to complete the projects. It also provides instructions on basic techniques, such as how to hand sew a button, and chain stitching.
As a beginner, I found the instruction to be easy to follow. So while the actual patterns weren't included in the eARC, nor the step-by-step images, I still had a good idea of the process. I was pleased that the author provided both imperial and metric measurements.
I also want to say how lovely the images throughout the book are.

I'm looking forward to buying a copy, and giving some of these a go.

I like "Sewing Face Masks, Scrub Caps, Arm Slings, and More by Angie Herbertson very much. I am a beginner seamstress, yet I can make all of the patterns in this book. Of course, these are very practical and necessary sewing projects. In addition to making items for personal use, one can also donate to charity. I found the patterns easy to follow. I highly recommend the book to anyone who wishes to sew for charity or their family.

Thank you to NetGalley for this opportunity.

We could all use this right about now! I started crocheting my own masks only to realize after reading this, that sewing them would not only be more efficient but better.
A great how=to for anyone wanting to do a good project.

A little over a year ago, who would have thought a book with this title would be popular? But, in today's times, this would be a nice addition to one's sewing library. There are lots of projects in it besides 2 types of facemask and scrub caps, including some basic things like lap quilts or pillowcases . I especially like the wheelchair/walker caddy. The instructions are clear and include lots of photos and diagrams. There are also a few patterns at the back that you can photocopy and use for some of the projects. A nice resource, but could use a more colorful & attention-getting cover.

What a Fantastic and much Needed resource in this day and time! The instructions are very clear and concise. I wasn't confused at all and love the lil tips and ideas on how to adapt or customize. The masks are great but I think my favorite projects are the lap quilt and the ponytail scrub cap! The cap is so inventive and I want one just for myself and I'm not a nurse or in the industry - its that cute! I recommend for anyone from beginner to advanced sewers looking to create items to help out in your home, family, and community.

A very good book even for beginners like me.
You don't need that much equipment and are done in a reasonable amount of time.
That was very important for me.

I made some nice things for my sister who works at a doctors office.

Thanks for letting me read this book

Overall, the patterns in this book are well-written and the variety is nice. It's a good collection that ranges from items for health care workers to people with temporary or permanent health needs. Face masks, scrub caps, slings, a really cute lap quilt with hand-warmer pocket, and other projects that are relevant now and others that are timeless.

However, there is one pattern for a scarf-style face mask that uses cotton lycra. That's not an acceptable material for face masks to help stop the spread of COVID-19. There's nothing in the description saying what this mask is good for or not good for. There is optional interfacing that can be used and there is a disclaimer that having the interfacing close to your face can be dangerous. Implying that a cotton lycra gaiter mask is suitable to be used now is dangerous. I cannot recommend this book with that pattern in there. It's a shame because the other patterns are so good but that's outweighed by this dangerous oversight.

Book has very clear instructions for making some unique face coverings, surgical hats, etc. Although health care providers can't use the hats by themselves they are great for using under another disposable cap. Great way to use up small amounts of fabric that you might have around.

My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I used to sew a fair amount, but work got in the way and there just weren't enough hours in the day!

Now that I am semi-retired, I have pulled out the old clunker from my storage room, oiled it and tried to make several face masks for the COVID pandemic. The pattern in this handbook is pretty foolproof. There is also a link to the publisher's website where you can download the patterns as well.

Just about every pattern included in this beautifully illustrated handbook is useful for just about everyone in your extended family, or your close friends who find themselves needing a sling or a carry-all for their wheel chair or walker. Scrub caps, ear savers, even a lovely, easy to do lap quilt - there are illustrated patterns for all of these and more.

The instructions are simple (and as I said above, nicely illustrated) and you won't need any fancy tools to complete your project, other than your sewing machine and the usual scissors, measuring tapes, etc. This handbook would be useful to a beginner, as well as an intermediate sewer who likes to create thoughtful gifts that are of use to her family, friends and neighbours who may be experiencing medical issues. why not cheer them up with a colourful sling or face mask? This would also be great for the costume designer of an amateur theatrical group who needs to outfit a medical team in a jiffy!

A great resource to have on hand. Highly recommended. 5/5 rating. Stay well!

I was looking for ways to give back to the community with my sewing and this book is what I was looking for. I've been sewing masks for the lasts months, but finally I found a realiable pattern for scrub caps, or an adult bib. I know someone who's going to enjoy the things I'm going to sew thanks to this book!

I must admit I'm clueless when it comes to sewing and sewing machines, however I have been inspired by this book. There are lots of projects to attempt, from small to large and for various people, the book starts out telling you everything you need if you are, like me, a beginner. The illustrations and explanations are clear and easy to follow. If you want to make your own Covid 19 mask, it's here. If you want to make a quilted blanket, a hairband or even a sling, here's your book! Any budding crafter would enjoy and benefit from this book. My thanks to Netgalley and publisher for a digital copy in exchange for my honest review. Inspired, I'm off to try one of the projects!

If you are looking into sewing some comfort and care items for family members, health care workers or just want to donate to patients in a hospital or nursing facility during the pandemic, this is a fantastic book.

Projects include an adult bib, ear-saver headband, ponytail scrub cap, tab blankie, stretch knit face covering or scarf, fat quarter scrub cap, cooper unisex scrub cap, pleated face mask with pocket, shaped face mask, window pal pillowcase, lap banket, memory care fidget mat, arm sling cast cover, wheelchair/walker caddy.

Step-by-step instructions with diagrams are provided so even beginners should be able to tackle them. I like that there are templates behind the book that you can photocopy and also an online link for printing templates in actual sizes.

I might try sewing the pony tail scrub cap so that I won't need to wash my hair after every trip downstairs to the condo compound or common areas!

Useful, timely book. Love it.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

This sewing book has some amazing ideas and projects to make at home and has been made at precisely the right time with the Covid19 pandemic in the world today.
There are ideas in this book for many care professions such as scrub caps, arm slings, cast slings, face masks (with unique headband attachments so you don't hurt your ears), and pillow covers, lap blankets (ideal for care homes), and memory fidget mats for people with dementia and memory problems.
This book has fantastic step by step instructions which are clear and informative, and at the back of the book there are the templates for each project too.
This book would be a fantastic book for anyone sat at home looking for ways to help during the pandemic and a great mindful activity and hobby to do too.

Since wearing face masks will be with us as a society for quite awhile, this book will come in handy to make not just face masks but really love the headband with buttons or scrub caps. I know a few nurses that would really appreciate these items. Also learned that interfacing is not sanitary. Good thing to ask or look for when purchasing any new face masks. Instructions look clear and the photos help guide you as you proceed with the sewing. I plan on making myself the headband today.
I received an advanced reader copy for free from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

This book really exceeded my expectations. It offers very thorough instructions and patterns for a wide variety of projects suitable for the medical or care industries. There is a wide variety of mask projects and some very clever ones like a headband with buttons so you can attach the elastic on the mask to your headband if it usually bothers your ears, or one that pulls down to a scarf. There's helpful advice like lining it with fleece for comfort (and also better protection). There are memory care fidget blankets, arm sling covers, wheelchair arm caddies, baby items, and much more. There are detailed drawings and photos to accompany every pattern.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

Sewing Face Masks, Scrub Caps, Arm Slings, and More is a practical and accessible tutorial guide for (mostly) healthcare related fabric projects by Angie Herbertson. Released 27th Nov 2020 from Fox Chapel on their Landauer imprint, it's 120 pages and available in paperback format.

The tutorials and techniques are suited to beginning sewists. There are step by step tutorials for 14 projects including scrub hats, fitget mats (for autistic and dementia patients), slings, wheelchair organizer caddies, and more. The projects themselves are attractive and useful. They're all beginner accessible. This would make a superlative selection for volunteer and charity sewing.

The table of contents includes a short thumbnail pictorial gallery of the included projects. The thumbnails aren't overly large or detailed but they give a clear look at each project along with page numbers and a color coded tab at the bottom of each picture showing the main use: the elderly, healthcare workers, children, or everone. The short introduction gives a capsule survey of the tools and materials with a non-model-specific sewing guide. All of these projects can be made on a very basic straight stitch machine, so there are no fancy bells and whistles needed.

The tutorials include a short description, color photo of the finished project, tools and materials listed in bullet point lists in a sidebar, and step by step directions with tutorial drawings. Materials lists are provided with both American standard and metric measures (yay!). The instructions are well written and I found no glaring errors with a fairly careful read-through.

All pattern templates are included in the back of the book (along with handy calibration squares to check the scale accuracy when printed out). The book also includes a short index, and small author bio. This is a very useful, timely, and well done book. It's *not* only for sewing masks, there's a wide selection of other health-aid items from which to choose.

Five stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
