Great book. Lots of great ideas to take from the book. Well written out. Had never had spam. But definitely need to try
Never thought you can make so many dishes with spam! Very innovative and the recipes are delicious! Thank you for the opportunity!
Well, who would have ever thought there were so many recipes to be made with Spam! One of the most interesting things about this book was my learning that there are many different kinds of Spam available, from Garlic to Hawaiian to so many more! Delicious and versatile, Spam is in our pantry and will continue to be!
The recipes were fun and some were very innovative. The layout on my phone did not make for good display or searching.
I was able to read this book for free in exchange for an honest book. I gave this book a five out of five because the recipes all sound great and they used spam in so many cool ways. Think this would be perfect for any college student or someone moving into a new place. Can't wait to buy a copy for me.
An interesting book. With these recipes and a ready supply of Spam, you'll never be short of ideas for a meal.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A nice little book for those people who grew up with SPAM being a house staple. It gives a history and many simple recipes. These recipes show the true versatility of SPAM and for many readers this book will hopefully bring back some good memories.
All the recipes are simple to create and there are many pictures
I would certainly purchase this book with a couple cans of spam for that person heading off to college for the first time..
Thank you Netgalley for the advanced e-book edition in exchange for my honest review
I grew up on Spam. It was a constant on military bases. But man this book made me want to eat it all over again. I bought it as a gag gift for my dad, and now we try a new recipe almost every week. Yummmm.
SPAM
The recipes are arranged by Breakfast, Appetizers, Lunch, and Dinner. The types of recipes are as simple as SPAM and scrambled eggs to as weird as SPAM and PB&J. There are SPAM fried rice, SPAM kabobs, SPAM pizza…
The book is a fun adventure for anyone wanting to explore recipes from all over the world.
You discover that SPAM is not just emergency rations to store in your underground bunker as you wait out a Zombie invasion.
I am left wondering what the real meaning of SPAM. In History of an Icon the popular belief that it is derived from Spiced Ham is only a speculation. Only a small number of former Hormel executives know the truth.
I didn’t grow up eating Spam and I was quite unfamiliar with it until my mid twenties when a friend from Hawaii introduced me to the wonder that is Spam musubi. The memory of that delicious meal made me pick up this cookbook, intrigued by what else one could make with Spam. Quite a lot, it turns out!
This is a very creative cookbook with a huge variety of recipes to try. The recipes are easy to follow and include pictures (always a win in my (cook)book!), and I can’t wait to experiment with some of them.
Really enjoyed this fun Cookbook! I grew up eating Spam so I was excited to see what recipes you could do..
I love spam so much, and I love how this cookbook gives me so many different recipes to try out! The layout is perfect and every recipe has a picture, which automatically gives this cookbook 5 stars, because pictures are key to me wanting to make something.
Spam gift sets are considered a fairly normal 'Korean Thanksgiving' (Chuseok) gift in South Korea. After spending a few years there, I thought I'd tried all the ways to prepare spam. It turns out that I was wrong. Just flicking through and seeing the wonderful illustrations will make you hungry.
I wasn't too impressed when looking at the first recipe admittedly. It was literally 'fry spam, make scrambled eggs and serve them side-by-side'. Fortunately most of the recipes are much more involved, while keeping the instructions simple and easy-to-follow. The 'Spamalicious Fiestra Dip' was interesting. The Classic Budae Jjigae Army Stew is one I recall from the old days in Korea too - it has a history dating back to the war. While not every recipe idea is a winner, there are over a hundred to choose from. You'll find some that strike your fancy.
As well as a long list of recipes with simple to follow instructions, this cookbook contains an interesting history of spam facts. It would've been nice to see more on this side of things, but I suppose it's not really the purpose of the book.
Thanks to the publisher, author, and netgalley for access to this book in exchange for honest feedback.
I'll be honest, I clicked read now so I could see how in the world there was a spam recipe book. I am not a hardcore spam fan or anything, so it was more of a fascination in the possibilities that drove me to read through this book. However, despite this fact about me, I will say that I am actually impressed with this cookbook. The layout is quite good, I really like the icons and illustrations, and there are a lot of recipes (mostly 2 a page). Honestly, I am surprised at the versatility and creativity of some of these proposed uses for the product. I also was impressed with the inclusion of the chef testimonies at the end of the book. Really, it was a surprise and a welcomed one to see a great collection of unique recipes. Worth the money.
This was so interesting to see recipes for creative and inexpensive ways to use Spam. I've always made it only one way (fried in a pan and added a touch of syrup) and now I will have fun testing more recipes using this economic food item that's been around for years. The book is filled with nice pictures , recipes and the history of Spam itself. I know I will get a lot of use out of this book.
(my only problem was with the Kindle download, I wasn't able to click on a recipe from the table of contents so had to go through all the recipes to get to the one I wanted to try. It might just be my "older" version of Kindle that wasn't compatible.
Fun walk down Spam memory lane. I was actually pretty surprised by much of the history and I had no idea you coukd make so many dishes with it. If you enjoy Spam you will love this book.
I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.
Although I’ve never actually met anyone who admits they like Spam®, The Hormel Kitchen has released a new cookbook, The Ultimate SPAM Cookbook: 100+ Quick and Delicious Recipes from Traditional to Gourmet: How to Elevate Ramen, Pizza, Sliders, Breakfast, & More with Hormel's Little Blue Can. Surprisingly, this cookbook is filled with recipes (almost all have beautiful photographs) that look mouthwatering. In fact, when I started looking through this cookbook, I went to the grocery store and purchased several cans to try the recipes. Anyone who has spent time in Hawaii already knows that Spam is a huge seller there and it is even found in dishes on restaurant menus (I once ordered a Spam® Loco Moco there; it was actually pretty good, and there is a recipe in the book to make it at home).
The first pages in this cookbook give the history of Spam – interesting – but the real draw of this cookbook is that the recipes are actually unique and innovative. Who knew that Spam could be used in everything from sushi to breakfast hash and burritos to fancy skewers on the BBQ to casseroles. There are recipes for sandwiches, including sloppy Joes and pulled pork in good sauces, as well as fried slices used on everything from Spam®LTs to Spam® Benedict. The recipes are heavy on Asian influences, including lettuce wraps, stir-fries, noodle bowls, and fried rice. There are also grilled cheese sandwiches, pizzas, macaroni and cheese, and dozens of recipes that most of us wouldn’t think of.
In this day when there is a pandemic and people are quarantined at home, it’s nice to have a few cans on the shelf to use with what’s in the freezer and refrigerator for making dinners that don’t require exposing us to Covid 19. This cookbook will keep everyone happy, since the main protein in some dinners is just on the shelf. This is a fun cookbook, and while it focuses on one ingredient, the possibilities are endless.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
Its strange, but I absolutely love SPAM, and this is by far the ultimate cookbook I have ever seen before on the subject. With a ton of recipes and different ideas for America's beloved canned ham strangeness, it is sure to peak your curiosity and have you buying more and more of those delicious little blue cans.
I am a BIG fan of Spam. Ate it a lot as a kid because it was so simple and delicious to add to any meal, and that love hasn't disappeared even though I've gotten older so I was pretty excited to see a cookbook dedicated to Spam recipes. There are a lot of classics in here like Army Stew, Spam Musubi, Spam Fried Rice, but there are also interesting recipes I want to try like Spam Benedict, Spam Gumbo, and more. There are a lot of musubi recipes though that probably could have been condensed into their own section, and there are some recipes that felt like they were just thrown in there for sake of page count. For example, the Juicy Lucy Spam Burger and the Spam burger are basically the same but the former just has more cheese. The most exciting part is at the end where you see more unique takes on Spam from chefs and food bloggers. Overall, a great tribute to Spam but not all the recipes are winners.
A delicious and eye-pleasing book, especially if you’re a Spam lover. I found some recipes I think my spam-loving son would probably enjoy.
