Talk Bookish to Me is my first Kate Bromley book but it will definitely not be my last! It's such a fun and unique story, especially since it's a romance novel embedded into a romance novel! It was cleverly written and the characters are amazing and very likeable.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this wonderful story by a very gifted author!
This was an enjoyable read. Kept me truly captivated. Loved the way the story unfolded. Will read another book by this author.
Wow, I’ve been sleeping on this one. It’s been on my shelf for a while now and I’m so glad that I finally picked it up! It was sweet, funny, and a really well-rounded story! The characters felt like real people and the story felt like something out of a tv drama where you’re rooting for everyone to live their best life. I absolutely loved it and I’m very excited to read more from Kate Bromley in the future! Highly recommend if you love rom-com and women’s lit packed full of quirky bookish goodness and with a fabulous cast of characters!
DNF at 13%. The joke about suicide, the fat phobic, and the prostitutes? Um, I'm not okay with any of that. And the comment that historical romance is literary porn? No thank you. This was my first book by this author and will definitely be my last if that's the type of content in her books.
*Many thanks to Graydon House for the gifted copy for my review. Wish it could have been a better review*
Thanks NetGalley for the preview!
I was hooked on this story! The multiple tropes were well done and exciting. Who can resist a cute dog sidekick! I especially enjoyed the snippets of Kara’s book sprinkled in. I’d buy that one too! It’s also always nice to see strong female friendships. I loved the romance and all the twists!
This was ok, but not wonderful. Manly it was unbelievable, but not in the "oh wow" kind of way. I did enjoy Bromley's sense of humor, which had me chuckling throughout the story.
This was not my normal genre at the time, but I was so glad I had the chance to enjoy this one. The lead was a bundle of inner conflict and hidden regrets that was endearing and maddeningly her own greatest hurtle. The love interest was a little bit too masculine for me at times, but I could understand his appeal to her. I found her best friend to be a bit of a caricature for most of early half, but she helped move the story in the direction it was supposed to go and there was a shift in her in the latter half of the book that added a layer to the story that made it all worthwhile. It was a nice romance, like a Hallmark movie where the characters were allowed to occasionally curse and have a libido. It was refreshing to try something like this. I don't regret stepping away from my usual genre staples for this at all.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me an advanced copy of this book to read and review.

Ok it might have been that this entertained me while painting my entryway, but I loved it!!! The narration was so well done and I loved the second chance romance. I’m not a huge fan of that trope but there was a perfect amount of angst, forced proximity, and possibilities. Highly recommend!
I am sorry for the inconvenience but I don’t have the time to read this anymore and have lost interest in the concept. I believe that it would benefit your book more if I did not skim your book and write a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience.
Books and romance, yes please. Super cute rom-com that I enjoyed reading. The characters were interesting and I was engrossed in the storyline.
***Did not finish, review based on first 42% of book and skimmed to see ending**
I am a sucker for all things bookish, and Talk Bookish to Me is about a woman who is a novelist and successful bookstagrammer. That alone was enough for me to pick up the book. Then I learn this is a second-chance, enemies to lovers trope and I was here for it. Kate Sullivan is our author and main character. She is fantastic, I liked her spunk, her drive, and how she knows what she wants. What I struggled with was her love interest, her former college boyfriend who she thought would be the man she married. They are brought together when their mutual friends are planning their wedding and they are in the wedding party together.
One of the big mysteries in the book is why they went their separate ways. It's hinted at multiple times. To the point that I had to skim and find out. And y'all I wish I hadn't done that. It led to me abandoning the story all together. There are few things that will make me do this, but this is one of them. I won't say here for fear of spoiling the story, but let's just say for me, it wound up undoing all the romance and witty banter I'd seen up to that point.
Writing wise, it is very well written. The banter is spot on, perfect balance of sass and snark. I think others will enjoy this rom com without issue. This is definitely a personal hot button topic for me, and for my own mental sanity had to put it down.
A romance about a bookstagrammer?! Do I even need to say any more? This book was everything I wanted and more and I can’t wait to read everything Bromley writes in the future.
I was really excited for this one and I think a few years ago I would've really loved it! Unfortunately I did not finish this one, I just couldn't get into it. 3 stars because there's nothing wrong with this book, just not for me. I think a lot of others will enjoy though, especially book content creators!
Romance writer Kara Sullivan writes the perfect love stories on paper....if only a love story would go right in her own life once in awhile. Fresh off a breakup, and playing the perfect maid of honor in for her best friend's wedding, Kara is shocked to find out one of the groomsmen is none other than her college ex-boyfriend, the one who was all her firsts, the one who got away. Will old feelings die hard? Or will the spark rekindle for a love that never died?
Kate Bromley, you've gained a new fan! A five-star read for me is one that keeps me excited to pick up the book over and over again, and I found that with Talk Bookish to Me. While there may have been some underdeveloped side-plots, I did not find this to detract at all from my enjoyment of the story. I enjoyed watching Kara grow and decide who she wanted to be after experiencing such hurt, grief, and loss. Ryan, though flawed and definitely not the best decision-maker in the world, was lovable and endearing and really did believe his love for Kara was genuine and never-ending.
I'm excited to read my next Kate Bromley which is waiting for me on my Kindle. Five good-time stars.
I found this delightful. Kara Sullivan, a historical romance writer experiencing writers block, meets up with her college boyfriend at the wedding of her best friend. The college romance added badly but these two will get a second chance at love. It was a fun watching the back and forth of the "will they? won't they?".
Give me a bookish romance, and I will happily read it! Talk Bookish to Me combines two of my favorite romance tropes, enemies-to-lovers and second chances. The tension and chemistry between Kara and Ryan is well written, and despite their past (and current) troubles I found myself rooting for the two of them to work it out. Kara's friends, Christina and Maggie, and family, Mom and sister Jen, were great supporting characters whose interactions with her gave insight into Kara's personality. However, I think one of my favorite characters was Ryan's lovable and quirky bulldog, Duke.
When I think of romance, I think of books just like this one, that gives all the feels and satisfies every romance junkies' heart. This is a perfect book to snuggle up with on any day.
I enjoyed this book a lot. Despite the fact the beginning was a little slow for my taste, this is a good enemies-to-lovers/second-chance romance, and it earned my rating for the dialogue and banter, but also for the last quarter of the book when things got real. The ideal audience for this novel is book lovers who enjoy great dialogues, and readers who appreciate a lovable canine sidekick.
This wasn't quite a home run for me because I had read several OMG Amazing books recently, but it was perfectly pleasant.
