tough one to rate. I exclaimed “woah” on the last page.
.
.
brief synopsis: Nora ran into her ex Ryan at a wedding. rom com ensues. Nora is an author and Bookstagrammer. Ryan has a dog named Duke.
.
.
I value character development, pacing, & plotting in most novels. I didn’t care about the characters till the last few chapters. even then, Nora and Ryan were each annoying, but I liked & bought into their connection. pacing and plot were slow for the first 60%. Bookstagram was present for Nora’s character development but not part of the plot unfortunately.
.
.
writing quality notably weaker than other popular novels. I skimmed the sections that were supposed to be part of Nora’s novel. numerous cliches throughout TALK BOOKISH TO ME.
.
.
And yet, I don’t regret reading TALK BOOKISH TO ME. the ending landed slowly but very very well and made me feel a lot. I treated myself to the ending curled up in a blanket after Work. my husband & I have a similar story because we ‘got back together’ forever, and I’m infinitely grateful.

readers of the rom com genre will like this one, especially when they just want something light, cute & bookish.
Love, loved this one! So cute and humourous.
Everyone needs a sexy Muise right?
Thank you netgalley for my copy of this.
I loved this book! It had a different theme than most "romances:" to me. I loved all the characters and felt they were very well written so the reader got to know them well. It had LOTS of chemistry, which I love too! I will recommend this book to all my friends and to patrons at my library!
this was a really enjoyable romance book, the plot was really entertaining and I enjoyed going through the journey to this romance.
A rom-com about a romance writer? How could I say no. "Talk Bookish to Me" is a great rom-com for readers who love books and everything that goes into romance. I also loved the book within a book concept that Bromley added, which truly brought the main character, Kara, to life as an author. I can only hope that Bromley will one day publish Kara's novel as well!
I follow a ton of bookstagrammers and I have often wondered what their private lives are like, so this was a great book to see what life might be like for a bookstagrammer.
Talk bookish to me was cute. I originally had trouble with the formatting of the book so I actually bought the physical format and the Kindle book to have the formats I liked.
It had a really good plotline. I normally don't like books about authors writing about books but I did like this one.
This one was a four star rating.
Thank you Netgalley and publishers for allowing me the chance to read and review this.
Our retired librarians, as well as patrons who love books have raved about this title. I love books about books, so the title grabbed my attention right off. Great summer read.
A romance with a Bookstagrammer? Sign me up. This is a fun, light read for a weekend on the couch. I mean, of course, I like it as the creator of The Bookish Society. :)
Okay, this was CUUUUUUTE. I hesitated picking it up because I'm often picky about books about books (sometimes it comes off as cheesy or overdone) and that was SO not the case for this book. I loved all the characters - even the secondary/supporting characters were super fun to read about. Pretty sure I devoured it in less than a day.
I thought this book tried a little too hard, packed a little too much into it and as a result dragged a lot. I didn't find the characters particularly likable or interesting. At times, I really didn't like them. And I wish it would have reached the conclusion a little sooner
Step sisters who have grown up fighting, each envious of the other, join together to care for their youngest half sister.
Sounds like a great premise.
However, it feel flat for me.
Plus, the secret really bothered me. I lost respect for the character and can’t get past it.
That combined with the fat phobia and the mixed up ending, really made this a pass for me.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for providing my honest opinion.
Kara is a bestselling romance novelist. After a string of huge successes she is completely stuck. Writers block is a nightmare. With her deadline fast approaching and daily reminders from her publisher, Kara is beside herself with worry. The only bright spot lately is helping her very best friend with her extravagant wedding plans. At the couple’s celebratory dinner, the first of many events, Kara bumps into her oldest and truest love. The man who stole and broke her heart in college - Ryan Thompson. Apparently an old friend of the groom, Kara is speechless facing the man she has tried to forget about for the last decade. The two unexpectedly leave the past in the past and as they are brought together by nuptial duties and sneaky friends the chemistry is bursting into flames. And the best part is - Kara is writing again. Writer’s unblock, a gift from the gods. Serious worries aside, she will do whatever it takes to keep this momentum going. Adorably hot, I loved the book in the book writing and truly likable characters. Like Kara, the author had a little trouble wrapping it up as well but all is forgiven. An HEA is an HEA. (Happily Ever After) And this is a cute one!
I thought I was going to love this but turns out the writing style wasn’t for me. I am sure this book will make someone’s day but that was not me.
I fell head-over-heels for this book. Stunning, hilarious writing and amazing characters. I felt the relationship between Ryan and Kara was really explored, and Bromley's writing really highlighted the own internal struggles and obstacles that both characters faced. There were times when I laughed aloud at their antics (anything involving Duke,) and there were times were I did cry (the ending, of course, but also Kara's own acceptance and acknowledgement of the space left before by her father's death years prior.) This is one book that I have to have on my bookshelf as the story of Kara and Ryan is one that I would like to revisit over and over.
Kara Sullivan is a romance author with writers' block. The deadline to turn in her next romance novel is looming but Kara has written exactly zero words.
When she discovers that the college ex-boyfriend who stomped on her heart is a friend of the groom at her bestie's wedding, she is floored. Her interactions with Ryan get her creative juices flowing and chapters are flying onto her laptop.
Can Kara keep up the contact with Ryan to finish her novel -- without catching feelings? And will the secrets they keep from each other hinder their relationship before it begins?
Recommended for fans of enemies to lovers or second chance romances and those looking for bookish contemporary fiction.
I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher through netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book is well written and the characters are described well. The pacing of this story is great. The romance is very steamy and good. I enjoyed how this book is well written. The relationships within this book is good. I really like how the main character Kara is a historical romance author. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone. It is in stores now for CA$19.99 (CAD).
An absolutely delightful, quirky, bookish romcom! I just adored this fun read. It had me snorting and laughing out loud, and definitely cheering on the characters. I’ve recommended this to many of my friends already, some who aren’t typically fans of romcom but loved it! Definitely in the realm of Christina Lauren and Helena Hunting books!
This is one I put off reading and now I can’t figure out why?? It was such a fun, sometimes intensely heartbreaking read! Maybe it’s because I’m also a writer, but any book about writers is instantly appealing to me. Kara was a lovely protagonist to follow along with and her chemistry with dreamy, drawling Ryan was spot on.
Possible incoming spoiler!! I will say there were some things about this story that made me question my enjoyment of the book. Namely the conflict that drove them apart and everyone in her life telling her how she should just forgive him for what I would consider a nearly unforgivable act of deception. I really liked Ryan and was rooting for him up until that point and though he was charming in his attempt to get him back, I don’t know, it all left a bad taste in my mouth.
But I truly enjoyed the book overall and Kate Bromley’s writing is fantastic! Also, the parallel historical romance story Kara is writing throughout the book is featured and I desperately wish it was real.
Overall a fun second (and third) chance romance! Thank you so much to Harper and Netgalley for the digital arc in exchange for an honest review!
This was like a love letter to romance readers, booktubers, bookstagrammers, and authors, and I enjoyed every page. I LOVED that Kara was a historical romance author/bookstagrammer and that we got to read excerpts from the book she was working on throughout the novel.
I really liked the second chance romance going on with Ryan as well as the angst and drama that came along with it. I do think the ending was drawn out a bit too long, but overall I felt this book was pretty well paced. Definitely recommend!
