Someone once said that all of Jane Austen's novels are about people going to other people's houses to have tea and gossip. This is how I felt about this book, but the author doesn't have the gift for beautiful prose that Austen had. He wants her, but she is wary, he insists, they go in circles a lot, oh look, they are in love and getting married. The end. Ok if you want something super low angst or a book that you can read before bed and want to make sure you can close it after one chapter.
I am a huge fan of this author and this did not disappoint. She always writes her characters and time periods spot on, the story was engaging and captivating and I enjoyed it. Was not my favorite storyline but not one I was not happy reading.
After a businesslike proposal from Gavin with no mention of love, Georgie turns him down. She then goes to visit a friend out of town, curious if he would follow. This is the second book in The Lords of London series but there were so many characters mentioned, along with who they married, I'm assuming they are in other books somewhere. The story meanders along slowly. I just couldn't stay interested.
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. First off the cover is pretty. The story is a cute historical fiction romance. Perfect weekend read.
I love this author and what they can do with a strong heroine. She brings out the best in her viscount and challenges him, pushes him, persuades him to do and be more. He pushes her to accept herself and her passion. Together they are a force and a hope and I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
While I usually love this author, this story was hard to get into. I did finish the book but it took several months of going back to it because I just couldn't get engaged with the characters or the story. I will be rereading it later down the line and will hopefully be able to give a better review.
The entire plot felt a bit dull for me - there wasn’t much angst from the MMC trying to win the FMC’s trust and I really need that in my regency romances especially because of how rigid the courtship can be. The lack of sexual tension made this an easy, clean read but made the plot drag.
I really liked Georgie and Gavin’s story! The dialogue was great. It was fast paced. An easy enjoyable read!
In this second-chance historical romance, Viscount Turley must win back the heart of the woman he loves after breaking it during a marriage proposal.
Unfortunately, I don’t think Ella Quinn is the right author for me. I’ve read two books in this series and unfortunately, both of them were just really frustrating. Both main characters in this installment were a tad annoying, and I didn’t connect with either one. There were some enjoyable moments, but overall, it was very much an average read for me.
Content warning for attempted kidnapping, sexual content.
Thanks so much to NetGalley and Kensington Books/Zebra for the ARC of The Most Eligible Viscount in London by Ella Quinn.
The continuation of The Lords of London series did not disappoint! This can be read as the third book in the series, or as a standalone. There was a delightful Happily Ever After. It was such a blast to read!
Was not able to read the entirety of the book and cannot give an accurate or overall rating/review . As a librarian for a big library system, we most likely have a copy of this item. I will look forward to reading it in future since I am sure I will.
While I usually really enjoy this author's books, it was hard to get into this one. I struggled with connecting to the characters, and the plot felt very slow-moving. It seemed to drag on, and the mystery aspect fell flat. I also didn't feel much chemistry between the main characters, and the H was rather dull. I will say that the author did a great job with the research and was very true to the time period; it just lacked the action and passion I am used to from Ms Quinn.
This book was a clean romance story that was not particularly exciting or page turning. The characters were nice and the story was simple. It was a little too bland for my tastes, but overall it was a nice read but I would not read it again.
In general, I enjoy reading books by Ella Quinn and she is one of my auto-buy authors. However, this book was a bit of a disappointment. The main characters were likable enough, with good supporting characters from previous stories written by the author. The story revolved around the Viscount Turley realizing the depth of his feelings for Georgie, the heroine, who would not marry a man who did not love her. There was not a lot of drama or sustained tension that brought the issues into focus. The character that seemed destined for the villain role wasn't much of a villain at all, only misunderstood. It was a nice enough book, but not one of my favorites of Ms. Quinn.
Woooo! I love Ella Quinn's Worthington series and the spinoff is just as cute. You don't have to read the Worthingtons first but if you love historicals, then you should because why not!?
Gavin, our hero, is such a clueless man. He adores Georgie but is not able to express his love. It takes some finagling by side characters and some very cute and sweet moments for our hero to man up and claim his lady love. These books are nothing new BUT if you are a fan of solid historical romances (think the Bridgerton series), you really should read Ella Quinn. Her stories move well, the characters are lovable, and the sexy times are always perfectly balanced with the plot.
I really enjoy this author, it's nice to read these stories of characters that have been in the background of other stories, it feels like chapters of linked friends are getting tied together.
Bless him this viscount certainly needs the female guidance (and shove/nudge/full force push) to guide him to blissful matrimony. when he proposes with more of a cv of achievements that a declaration of love more or less every female relative comes out of the woodwork to help him realise his errors and make him realise that he loves his intended bride and has done all along. with this knowledge he now neds to convince his intended bride to give him another chance.
This wasn't a bad book per say. The short and sweet of my issues are that a) I was incredibly bored. And b) I could not bring myself to care about these characters.
The bigger issue is this: The plot had the potential. But once the beginining scene was over I felt like neither hero or heroine did anything to get what they wanted. The hero was like "I'll just keep mansplaining to her why I'm the best choice." and the heroine was "Oh woe is me! He doesn't love me!!" Um ma'am do you really love him? because I couldn't tell. There was no tension between them. It made her feel like a foolish young girl who decided she deserved love. But it goes both ways sis. So basically a whole lot of nothing happened until like 80% into the book.
I read the previous book in this series and struggled with that one as well. I'm starting to think its just the authors writing style that isn't for me.
2.5 stars that I rounded up to 3 for reasons.
The Most Eligible Viscount in London (The Lords of London). By Ella Quinn. 2021. Zebra (ARC eBook).
The Most Eligible Viscount in London is a slow burn with some meddling friends and misunderstandings. The story is full of regency social customs that many will enjoy, as do I, but overall, I found the story to plod. It’s a sweet romance when all said in done but there wasn’t any event or character that really incited excitement from me.
This is a super fun read. I really enjoyed this one!
Many thanks to the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
I liked the book, but found multiple instances where there was an opening for something more that just didn't materialize. The courtship of main characters, Georgie and Gavin, begins almost immediately and just never takes off as it could. The premise had the ability to be great, but was only good in my opinion. This will not stop me from continuing to follow Ms. Quinn as this book is the exception, not the rule.
Thank you Ella Quinn, Kensington Books and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
