I was really looking forward to this cookbook as I have vegetarian members in my household and for health reasons, I myself tend to eat very little meat and lots of vegetables. Sadly, there were not enough pictures in the book and I was disappointed to see no nutritional information given. In my opinion, the BEST cookbooks always contain lots of pictures as well as nutritional info. There was a wide variety of recipes and most seemed pretty easy to make. This is a cookbook I would for sure check out from the library before I bought a copy for my cookbook collection.

Good book for people who want to eat more nutritious food, not just for people who follow a plant based diet. Very happy with the recipes!

Some nice recipes but overall nothing to special if you already have many meat free/vegan cookbooks, would recommend if you’re new to cooking veggie meals.

I really enjoyed the recipes and tips in this book! I have been a vegetarian for only a few years, so I am always looking for new, exciting ways to be meat-free.

As someone who doesn't eat meat personally, I am always interested in finding new vegetarian cookbooks since I feel like I eat the same few things over and over! I enjoyed this cookbook and the recipes provided!

I have been a vegetarian on and off for years, and while I don't think I could manage to be vegan, I wholeheartedly praise those who are. I believe that as much as possible eating vegan doesn't have to be a chore, and is something we should all strive towards, for our health, for the planet and for the animals.
This book is a great start for those who want to reduce their meat intake, become vegan or veggie, or eat local and better.

Love seeing new entries into the meatless/vegetarian/vegan cookbook collection. As we as a society grapple with how our actions are affecting the planet, we must investigate everyday choices, like the kinds of foods we eat, and choose better. Meat-Free Kitchen is a great book for people starting this journey, and anyone who wants more vegetarian recipes in their repertoire.

I really enjoyed the Meat-Free Kitchen! As a long-time vegetarian, I thought this book had refreshing recipes and was accessible and easy to engage with. It's also a great book for people who are maybe newer to decreasing their meat consumption. Highly recommend!

This cookbook is helpful if you're really dedicated to eating and cooking without meat. But I found a lot of the recipes fairly intricate and not really accessible, especially if you have a tight cooking budget.

This was full of great ideas.
I doubt I will ever be 'meat-free', but I certainly want to add some healthy recipes to my repertoire, as it helps the environment and the bank balance!
Whilst there are some recipes that require ingredients that are not in every common kitchen, it was worth a trip to the supermarket!
My favourites were the tomato orzo soup and smoky potato wedges! Delicious.

This is a very engaging cookbook, with lots of delicious sounding recipes! The recipes are meat-free (duh), but not necessarily vegetarian or vegan; however, there are suggested substitutions to accommodate both diets. The ingredients aren't weird things you'll never find- some might be a little harder to find in smaller cities or towns, but in this day and age, they're an easy internet search away, or you can substitute. While I do wish there was a picture for each recipe, there are pics of at least half, I'd say. Every recipe sounded tasty, and was explained well. The one caveat was the suggested use of non-stick cooking spray on non-stick cookware; make sure you check your cookware's instructions to make sure this is okay, because you can ruin the surface if you're not careful- I've done it, and it will make you sad! Also, I wish nutrition information would become standard in cookbooks- as a diabetic, I need to know how many grams of carb and fiber I'm getting per serving (this is more a general cookbook gripe, and I'm not holding it against the authors). I will note I'm reviewing an advance copy in exchange for my honest review, and these things may have been changed in the final book. 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5, I will be looking for a copy of this book for myself soon!

The Meat-Free Kitchen had a variety of recipes with accessible ingredients and nice photos. I may not make all the recipes in this book, but one of those that caught my eye was the Korean BBQ burger.

Great cookbook! It has a variety of recipes (all of which I would eat), accessible ingredients and great pictures. Plan to purchase this book!

Some tasty new options.

I'm always looking for more meat free ideas for meals and I found some pretty tasty ideas in this book.
As more people are turning to more plant based diets, I found this had a number of healthy options to expand what I can throw together in the kitchen.

Love the structure of the book that covers all meals. The pictures are very good and recipes are easy to follow.
The food is very colorful and forms a healthy diet.
I tried a lot of them and were mostly very easy to prepare and delicious.
Thumbs up for this one I'll add some recipes to my everyday menus.

The Meat-Free Kitchen is a wonderful new cookbook and cooking guide. Due out 2nd March 2021 from Quarto on their Fair Winds Press imprint, it's 192 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats (ebook format currently available print version to come soon).

This is an everyday casual cookbook which contains delicious real engaging and appetizing food. The authors have also made the recipes variable, with optional additions (dairy) and substitutions to make them appropriate for a wide variety of styles/diets.

It's graphically appealing, well written, and accessible, with an array of vegetarian recipes to appeal to most tastes. I really liked the layout and formatting of this cookbook. The brief introduction covers the basics, with a very short overview of tools, ingredients, and supplies. The recipes which follow are arranged roughly thematically: breakfasts, soups, salads, snacks, burgers (a whole chapter!), bowls, pasta, casseroles, sides, and dips/sauces/dressings. There are a number of gluten-free recipes included, and these are clearly delineated. As the "egg" recipe section implies, not all the recipes are vegan-compliant. There are some lacto-ovo vegetarian recipes, but they too are clearly labeled. Many of them could be adjusted to become vegan friendly. Many of the recipes contain highlighted text boxes with suggestions for alternative preparations to make them vegan friendly.

Each recipe has its ingredients listed bullet style in a sidebar. Measurements are given in US standard with metric measures in parentheses (yay!). Special tools and ingredients are also listed, along with yields and cooking directions. The ingredients are mostly easily sourced at any moderately well stocked grocery or international foods store - there are some which will require substitution or sourcing from specialists. Nutritional information is not provided.
The recipes and tutorials are well photographed in color. The serving suggestions are very well styled and give visual cooks information about presentation and serving. Essential info, alerts, facts, tips & answers are highlighted in text boxes.

Four stars. There are a large number of really tasty recipes here. We've tried a number of them at home and they've all been tasty and error free.

The Meat-Free Kitchen feels like a fun vegan recipe blog. There are a wide range of recipes with very different flavor profiles. Like on one page you have a Blackberry Millet Breakfast Bowl, very traditional-esque, followed immediately by Slow Cooker Miso Oat and Egg Bowl, which is hands down the first recipe I want to make. The book covers breakfast, soup, salad, sandwiches, casseroles, pasta, bowls, sides, along with the sauces and required vegan techniques. But there is an entire chapter of 18 different burgers. Meatless burger are great because you can put the flavorings directly into the patty. This cookbook feels different and innovative with the recipes.

There were definitely some interesting recipes in this book. Even though I eat meat, I'm always trying to find ways to sub out meat, and several of these looked really good and might just be good enough for my meat-loving SO. Really excited to give some of these recipes a try!
