I loved this book. The pictures of the completed recipes were stunning. The recipes themselves were clear and uncomplicated with easily obtainable ingredients.
I have been a vegetarian for over 30 years and am always on the lookout for new inspiration.
This book has certainly got me interested in using ingredients I haven’t used before.
Absolutely brilliant book !
I have read and reviewed several vegetarian cookbook and this #TheMeatFreekitchen cookbook is quite different. I love the variety of the recipes as it covers breakfast and “loaded hand snacks, and burgers and bowls, casseroles, several sauces and dips and ofcourse soups and pastas and salads.
The photographs, which are a must for cookbooks, are beautiful and colorful. I think that vegetarian cookbooks belong in each kitchen as the recipes make delicious side dishes for meat eaters.
I highly recommend this cookbook because the variety and creativity of the recipes are amazing.
I will defined try the burgers and different bowls, soups and breakfast recipes.
I would like to thank#NetGalley and the publisher, Quarto Publishing Group- Fair Winds Press for providing me with an temporary ARC of this great cookbook.

Super Healthy and Incredibly Delicious Vegetarian Meals for A Day, Every Day
Lovely photos with well written recipes grace the pages of this book. I found that many ingredients are not available where I live so would need to make many substitutions. I do live in a small village on the top of a hill in Lebanon so that might impact availability but also the pandemic, local economy and decreased imports play a part.
What I liked:
* The photographs
* Recipe layout
* Chapter titles
* Information on how to veganize vegetarian recipes
* Which ingredients might be easily swapped one for another.
* The idea that one should begin the change with:
- Familiar flavors/meals and just leave the meat out
- try totally new flavors/dishes that you have never had before
* The Sauces, Dips & Bits recipes…I can see they would come in handy and that they could be used in a variety of ways.
* The index – comprehensive and easy to find recipes in
* Blue boxes with Notes & Tips
What I didn’t like
* No nutritional information for recipes
* Not being able to find many recipes I could try at home without making substitutions.
Did I enjoy this book? Kind of
Would I ever make any of the recipes? Maybe…and definitely some of the basic sauces, dips and bits at the back.
Thank you to Quarto Knows – Fair Winds Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.
3-4 Stars
The Meat-Free Kitchen is an excellent plant based recipe book for vegetarians or anyone wanting to include some meat free meals into their diet. There is a good variety of recipes many of them quite simple, and the instructions are very good. However I would have preferred pictures with more of the recipes as I like to see what it is supposed to look like. My favourite section was the burger selection. Definitely something for everyone. There are many that I want to try. Overall a very good book.
I like how the book include cuisines from around the world. Lots of fusion flavours and cooking techniques that keep the tastebuds happy. The information are layout quite well and photos are eye-catching. I would prefer to see a bit more photos of the cooking steps personally.
I got hungry just flipping through this book, so this is a good sign of how good it is.
I was thrilled to get my hands on a cookbook that lists absolutely delicious foods for all times of day without meat, but without sacrificing the flavors and comfort. It has so many mouth-watering recipes for sweet and savory breakfasts, soups, burgers and sandwiches, bowls, pastas, comfort foods and side dishes.
The most important thing is that the focus of this book is on making dishes actually 'MEATY' without meat - so important when you're trying to satisfy the family and guests.
It would have been a five star cookbook of the year for me if every recipe has an accompanying picture. And while most do, I wouldn't necessarily know what the others should even look like.
*Thank you to the Publisher for a free advance temporary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have been in search of a good meatless burger for years!! I’ve tried many and have been disappointed up until now!! I’ve almost given up, when I saw this book offered on NetGalley. The Meat-Free Kitchen has a WHOLE CHAPTER dedicated to meatless burgers!! I had no idea there were so many different kinds! I was so excited when I saw this and couldn’t wait to get my hands on the book!!
I tried two burger recipes for this review. One called All-American Burger and another called Basic Black Bean BBQ Burger. I thought both of the burgers were delicious. The recipes were easy to follow and I had most of the ingredients already, except for a few. I was happy that I could grill the All-American Burger and it didn’t fall apart, like other burgers I have grilled. I chose the baking option for The Basic Black Bean BBQ Burger, but the recipe offered the option of frying in a skillet or using an air-fryer as well. Both recipes were very tasteful and I’ll be making them again.
The Meat-Free Kitchen is full of mouth-watering photos and a variety of recipes to include: breakfasts, soups, salads, snacks, bowls, pasta, casseroles, sides, dips and sauces.
I few that caught my eye that I want to make next are:
Butternut Squash Mac & Cheese
Black Bean Citrus Quinoa Salad
Tortilla Enchilada Casserole
Creamy Potato Soup with Kale and Corn
I’m not a Vegan, but to be a little healthier, I like to add meatless meals in my weekly menu. I recommend this book to anyone that is a vegan or someone like me that just wants to eat healthier. I promise, there are recipes that will fit everyone’s palate!! Enjoy!!
This is a beautifully produced book. It’s visually appealing and very well laid out. I’m not vegan or vegetarian but many of the recipes really appealed to me. The bowl foods looked especially attractive and I’ll be trying a few out.
Some of these recipes were not for me, but I appreciated the excellent layout and the huge amount of veggie burgers! The bowl recipes also seemed spot on and delicious. Very light on sides (I’m not sure I need a recipe for potato wedges or fried zucchini, but I bet somebody does). I’ll definitely be adding a few of these to my rotation! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for this unbiased review.
This is a good book for new vegetarians or new cooks.
Few recipes jumped out at me as being particularly new or inventive, which is why for me it wasn’t as interesting, but it does contain all the staples and lots of variations of vegetarian burgers as well as options with or without tofu for those not quite comfortable with all the typical veggie ingredients yet.
That is not to say I didn’t find a few inspiring recipes (looking at you, Cherry Almond Couscous Salad with Butternut Squash and Apple), and some fun dips and sauces to add to my every growing collection of grazing board recipes and salads.
I’ve wanted to clean up my diet and found THE MEAT-FREE KITCHEN to be a godsend! It features 125 easy-to-make plant-based recipes divided by chapters, plus beautiful color photos.
My tummy rumbled as I paged through recipes for delicious breakfasts, soups, salads, burgers, bowls, snacks, and more. Think I’ll have an Oatmeal Cookie Granola Parfait for breakfast, a Cherry Almond Couscous Salad with Butternut Squash and Apples for lunch, and a Thai Coconut Curry Bowl for dinner. Yum!

Thanks to Quarto Publishing Group – Fair Winds and NetGalley for the ARC, in exchange for my honest review.
I am always interested in more easy, simple yet delicious plant-based meal ideas so I was excited to review a copy of this new cookbook! The recipes looked lovely and most were accompanied by beautiful photographs. There is certainly a recipe for any craving. I truly appreciate that the ingredients are easy-to-find and that the recipes are quick and simple. I look forward to trying the Chickpea Scramble Breakfast Burrito, Slow Cooker Miso Oat and Egg Bowls, Very Berry Quinoa Salad with Cinnamon Toasted Pecans, and Sun-Dried Tomato and Pesto Burger.
Thank you, Quarto Publishing Group and NetGalley, for a digital ARC!
I would not add the Meat-Free Kitchen cookbook to a classroom as a curriculum adoption. I might suggest it as an option for a classroom library. The Meat-Free Kitchen pleasantly surprised me. I really appreciated new takes on old favorites, but many recipes were new twists or combinations. I am so excited about the Burger section. This is one thing that is lacking in many vegetarian/vegan cookbooks is an assortment of burgers. I will be purchasing this cookbook to add to my collection for that section alone.
I thought this was a great cookbook, especially for those trying to eat less meat or starting their meat free journey. I want to try so many recipes from this book, and that doesn’t happen a lot these days. I loved the layout of the book; just wish that there were more pictures and that maybe they weren’t all the same. Other than that, great book!
This cookbook does a great job at including kid-friendly, adults-(probably)-only, and DIY to everyone’s own tastes. Many of the recipes also have notes at the end for substitutions and other tips. It’s a great cookbook to give as a gift to new families or more established families who may need some new staples.
This vegetarian cookbook has 100+ recipes of breakfasts, soups, salads, casseroles, sauces, sides, burgers, handheld snacks, bowls, and pasta. The brief introduction includes some beginners-friendly info about meat substitute options as well as often used spices.
These recipes are not kid-friendly. The instructions are brief and laid out in paragraphs instead of numbered steps, which I prefer. There is a nice index in the back. Maybe 1/3 of the recipes have a picture.
As a family of 5, I often struggle to balance mealtimes between the tastes of everyone and find myself cooking multiple meals to accommodate both vegetarian and practically carnivorous diets(!).
Having scoured this book cover to cover, we have definitely found some new family favourites. The black bean soup was our first big hit and it's gone from there. The burger section has been great and I've found myself making ahead and freezer batches to make an easy meal at a later date. Also, the snack section has been an unexpected lockdown hit with the kids seeing them taking the time to prepare these at lunchtime for everyone, albeit, occassionally adding a little chorizo or chicken for the die hard meat eaters.
I often find that I buy cookbooks that I expect to be in constant use that barely get opened. This is the absolute opposite to that where I requested this arc hoping to find some new dishes for the 2 veggies in our house but have happened upon something that is a big hit for everyone. Definitely a good purchase for a house with teenagers.
A nice book full of good recipes. Well designed, and great photos on most of the pages. Loved the sauces at the end.
I learnt a lot from this book. I am trying to eat more healthy and so looking for new recipes. There were some really interesting and also really obvious recipes which I hadnt thought of trying but I am now.
Even my husband who was raised on meat and two veg for every meal is eating the food. The recipes are easy to follow.
The recipes were accessible for a newbie who is not giving up meat totally as my family could not cope.
Some of the recipes I would like to have tried but the ingredients are not available in the UK.
I was given an advance copy of this book by netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review which I have done.
I feel like the vegan and vegetarian gods read my cookbook reviews in the past couple of years and have deigned to smile on me with this year’s offerings. As I paged through The Meat-Free Kitchen, I was like a kid in a candy shop–or a hungry vegetarian.
The Meat-Free Kitchen has pages and pages of fresh, original recipes. Can you imagine an entire section of vegan burger recipes? Neither could I until I saw it with my own eyes. Now I’ve never used wheat gluten before nor made seitan (there are burgers that don’t incorporate these ingredients, by the way), but let me just tell you that these recipes have me intrigued, perhaps enough to give it a try.
The breakfasts offer some interesting flavors like vegan congee, peanut butter pancakes, oatmeal bowls, buckwheat and black beans bowls–foods that will definitely fill you up until lunch. Oh, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the Cherry Oatmeal Protein-Packed Energy Burger, which really looks like a very scrumptious cookie that the authors promise will keep you full. I want to try that one very much!
On my list of recipes to make is the Creamy Potato Soup with Kale and Corn. That sounds so warming and delicious on a winter’s night as well as filled with healthy ingredients.
Casseroles! Buddha Bowls! Yummy wraps and salads! So so much goodness.
If you’ve been thinking of going meatless and are looking for some mouth-watering recipes to try, I highly recommend The Meat-Free Kitchen. One issue one might have though is if you’re looking for nutritional information, there isn’t any. I use an app for that. Ha.
