Save the planet meat free cookbook! Enjoyable and such an easy to follow with some gorgeous pictures of delicious combinations.
What did I like? If your not familiar with hummus, tofu, or falafel then you’ll probably miss out on this gorgeous cookbook! Meat free doesn’t have to be daunting as you navigate this meat free cookbook! I really enjoyed the bowl chapter as I love cauliflower rice! Yum!
Would I recommend or buy? If your new to vegan then this is great... just omit the eggs. Otherwise this is a meatless cookbook! With amazing pictures! Most are regular meals just omit the meat or use for meatless Monday’s like I do! I loved the cookbook so definitely buy and I recommend !
I received a complimentary copy to read and voluntarily left a review! Five stars!
This is a nice enough compilation of vegetarian recipes. Note that they are free of meat, not free of animal products. Ingredients like eggs and butter are used often. There are some photos but not a lot. There is no nutritional information for the recipes, which means I can't use any of these recipes. Since so many people need to monitor their carbohydrates, sodium, calories, protein, fiber, etc. it makes no sense for publishers to omit this information.
As another reviewer mentioned, there are a ton of burger recipes. I use a basic mix and match formula (throw in some sort of beans, some sort of filler, some sort of chopped nuts or seeds, some sauteed veggies, some sort of binder, the spices that match it, etc.) and if you know the basic formula you don't need 15 different recipes because you can just use what's in your kitchen and what matches your desired flavors. Those who want lots of burger recipes will like this though.
All in all it's a perfectly nice vegetarian cookbook but the market is so saturated at this point that I'm not sure what sets it apart from others. I'd recommend previewing it to see if it's the right fit for you.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

This is a super creative and easy cookbook to make plant based recipes! A huge variety of different cuisines all in one place with easy directions, helpful tips and with substitutions! So many ways to jam protein in your meals without integrating meat and each one is more delicious than the next! Also, there are loads of recipes and ideas for sauces and dressings to add to spruce up any dish!
I always enjoy looking at those beautiful pictures of food.
And certainly want to try some recipes. I wish there was single photo for each dish.
While we are not strict vegetarians, we do aim to eat a plant based diet 5-6 days of the week. I made the following recipes for my family and we loved them all.
Chickpea Scramble Breakfast Burrito
Creamy Potato Soup with Kale and Corn
Miso Soup with Shittake Mushrooms and Ramen Noodles
Potpie Noodle Casserole
I’m really excited to try the burgers and salads as well.
Each recipe we tried had ingredients that I already had or were easy to find in the supermarkets near me, and the directions were clear and easy to follow.
The only reason I am giving this 4 stars is because not every recipe had a photo. I believe it’s helpful to be able to see what the finished meal should look like.
I am typically most bored with breakfast chapters in cookbooks. This book is no exception. It has the usual oatmeal bowls, parfaits chickpea scrambles, etc. Probably the best chapter is the last. It’s full of sauces and other staples you can use in the included recipes or separately. If you have no plant based cookbooks, this would be a good starting point. If you have more than a few, this will have a lot of recipes that feel like repeats.

Whoa, some truly amazing recipes in this vegetarian cookbook. I’m vegetarian, my family are avid meat eaters, but they do indulge me on the regular, and they’ve enjoyed each meal I’ve prepared from this book. I’m not a big quinoa fan, but must say the breakfast bowls were truly tasty. The book is packed with some wonderful ideas, suitable for all diet preferences. My favourites included the oatmeal bowl, the creamy potato soup with kale and corn, the spicy hummus veggie wraps, and my ultimate favourite, butternut squash Mac and cheese, utter, yummy perfection. I could go on. The preparation is not too finicky on most recipes, and I managed to substitute if I didn’t have the exact ingredients. Suffice to say this is a full five star read from me. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley, this is my honest review.
This is a great cookbook. It starts out with an explanation of ways to incorporate more plant-based meals into your diet, whether it is just once a week, or a total change to a plant-based diet. It also includes a list of common staples to keep on hand when maintaining a plant-based diet, all of which are easy to obtain and inexpensive.
The photographs are beautiful and look so delicious. There are a wide range of recipes, from breakfast to burgers to dinners and condiments, and they're easy to follow. Best of all, each recipe requires ingredients that are easy to obtain. The ingredient lists aren't long and the recipes aren't overly involved - they're simple enough that even a beginner in the kitchen could follow them.
I've already bookmarked a ton of pages in the book, and plan to make so many of these recipes. I'm looking forward to making them and seeing if they taste as good as they look, but I can't see how I wouldn't love them.
This book is informative, full of useful recipes for both the new and the experienced plant based eater. Recipes are simple and easy to follow, and the pictures are beautiful
Thank you to the publisher for an advance copy via netgalley!
Who knew that there were so many yummy ways to make meat free burgers!! Not to mention the beautifully presented food bowls.! Added bonus about this book: there are recipes for everything you can make yourself in the back from spices to creams to tofu!
I really enjoyed looking through this cookbook! I loved the pictures and wish there would have been even more. Some of the recipes were overly basic, but I liked that all were easy to make. I would highly recommend this book for new vegetarians or vegans.
I'm trying to learn how to not base meals around meat, so this cookbook is a great help! The recipes we tried were well-received by the family.
This is a great vegetarian cookbook! Such a nice mix of recipes and options for meals. Excellent mix of protein and veggie ingredients and looking forward to making these!
I am always looking for meatless meals when making my Meatless Monday's so I had to check out The Meat-Free Kitchen, note this is not vegan/vegetarian as eggs and dairy are part of some of the recipes. The cookbook has very visually appealing photos that go with most recipes. I think I would be making many, many of these recipes and they made me very hungry reading through the book. The only thing I wish it had was nutritional information for each recipe.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in return for an honest review. All spelling and grammar errors are totally my own.
I’m always on the hunt for new meal options, especially since I’m a vegetarian celiac, and this cookbook definitely fits the bill. It’s full of tips to convert a meal to gluten-free (good for anyone not used to substituting because they’re new to the GF life), tons of breakfast ideas, loads of soups perfect for cooler months, and burgers galore! Let’s face it, we need burgers, or the ease of fake burgers, come summer. This book also has inventive tofu ideas or seasonings and tons of ways to use up the Costco bag of quinoa in your pantry. It’s also easily understood and would be a good addition for children or beginner vegetarian cooks to add variety without the stress. It’s an A+ to me!
Really enjoyed the recipes and am excited to try these with my family. The recipes seem very favorable and I love the amount of time needed to prepare these for my family especially after working all day. I would highly recommend this book to friends and family!!
I would really like to start increasing the plant-based dishes in my diet and have found several recipes that I incorporate regularly. However, just like everyone else, I have flavor and texture preferences. Unfortunately, based on those preferences and my dietary needs, this book and I are not going to be best friends.
There are a lot of burgers in this book. If you enjoy burgers and want to try a vegetarian version, there is probably one here to suit your taste. Although I can enjoy a burger occasionally, I don’t eat them frequently enough to need to find a substitute. I could happily live burger-free, so this section seemed overly long to me.
A couple of the recipes that look interesting to me are fried. Unfortunately, part of my reason for wanting to reduce meat in my diet is to be healthier and frying my food will not do that. I would consider trying the recipes in an air fryer if I owned one.
There are quite a few recipes I’d be interested in in the Sauces, Dips, Bits, and Buns section that look good. Some of them are available to purchase and I don’t often see the need to make things (such as sauces and dressings) that I can get pre-made. I was still able to find a few I’d try out on my own.
Recipes I’d be interested in trying:
Banana Walnut Baked Oatmeal
Cherry Oatmeal Protein-Packed Energy Burger
Easy Black Bean Soup
Creamy Tomato Soup with Orzo
Tuscan White Bean Soup
Basic Black Bean BBQ Burger
South by Southwest Burger
Black Bean and Zucchini Enchiladas
Baked Sweet Potato Fries
Green Bean Fries
Garlic Rosemary Fries
Sun-Dried Tomato Aioli
Garlic Artichoke Spread
Avocado Green Goddess Dressing
Cheesy Biscuits
I seem to have been most interested in the soups, fries, and spreads/dressings. They looked really good to me and I will definitely try out at least a couple of those. I do wish there were more photos of the dishes included, but I enjoyed the comments and notes included with each recipe.
Although I was not personally blown away by the options in this cookbook, I can see how others with different flavor preferences would love it. If you are interested in adding more vegetarian dishes to your diet or if you’re just looking for an healthier burger option, I would recommend giving it a look.
3.5★
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book. No nutritional information which is a big minus for me, especially in a healthier cookbook. I did like that most of the ingredients are fairly common and in my pantry. We really enjoyed the creamy tomato soup with orzo, the Thai sweet potato curry and black bean and zucchini enchiladas. Lookjng forward to making some of the breakfast bowls.
Honestly this book is fantastic. It has great recipes and they all look delicious and are super easy to whip up.
