This is my fair and honest review, voluntarily given and in my own words for this ARC. 12 dukes is NOT enough!! There should be many many more! This is such a quirky and hilarious series. The characters, the writing, the concept and the stories all make for a MUST read series.
This entire series has been a fun collection of unrelated people or animals all with some version of Duke in their name. In this final book of the series we have an actual Duke - Alexander, Duke of Nottingvale (Vale) and believe me his is worth the wait.
Vale hosts a Christmas House Party at his cottage in Cressmouth every year. This year, his mother is intent of finding his a bride so she has invited multiple appropriate debs and their mothers or companions. One companion who wasn't expected was Cynthia Louise Fitch with her cousin Gertrude.
Cynthia Louise had 6 seasons as a wallflower 6 years ago. She has been on the shelf so long she would have gone dusty but Cynthia Louise isn't one to sit still. She has been spending her time having fun and is a frequent visitor to Cressmouth.
Although Vale tries his best to find some interest in the many young women who are a suitable match he keeps coming back to Cynthia Louise - these two have magnetic chemistry and as much as they try they can't keep away from each other. Of all the women there, she is the most undesirable candidate to be a duchess but the heart wants what it wants and Alexander wants Cynthia.
This is an amazing, fun, fast love story well worth the read to get to the Happily Ever After.
I r3eceived an advanced copy of this book.
The last of Erica Ridley's 12 Dukes of Christmas has arrived and I have to admit, I'm a bit sad to see the end of the series. Though I know a prolific writer like Ms. Ridley will have many future historical romances to devour.
Forever Your Duke showcases the Duke of Nottingvale. An uptight, stuffy, Darcy-eqsue hero who must marry a proper lady and carry on the respectability of the dukedom. And the perfect match is Lady Gertrude, embodying all the characteristics that would make her a proper Duchess. The only issue is Lady Gertrude's chaperone - Miss Cynthia Louise Finch. A bit on the shelf and a bit more eccentric, Miss Cynthis Louise is the exact opposite of Duchess material
But opposites attract, and sometimes the person one feels is the least appropriate, ends up being the most loveliest of matches. And thus, we are privy to the adventures of Cynthia and Alexander, and witness them having fun, choosing adventure, and ultimately love.
It's a fabulous ending to a fabulous series.
OK, I'm a convert to the Cressmouth village society. I totally wish I could be friends with Cynthia Louise and have droll adventures involving skiing, billiards, ice sculpting, and archery. This story ties in details from the other stories and ends the series. If you start now, you might be able to read all 12 stories by the end of Christmas. But never fear--Ms. Ridley already has her next series going.
Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to review a digital ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.
The Duke of Nottingvale is holding his annual Christmastide house party but this year he has invited prospective ladies to be his Duchess. Cynthia Louise Finch has come as the chaperone to her cousin, Gertrude. Gertie is rather shy so Cynthia Louise has to make sure she is noticed. In the process she is also noticed by the Duke. He is looking for a young lady who will follow the rules as he has always done. But does he know anything about getting some enjoyment from life? Can Cynthia teach him a little about experiencing life as well as being a Duke? This is has been a fun series.
An opposites attract, friends to lovers Holiday Historical Romance? Umm, yes please!
This book it's the perfect culmination to a wonderful series as 12 Dukes of Christmas! All the swoon, the laughs, the fun and the little to none drama, wrapped up in Christmas warmth. That's what this series is: cuddling with a puppy and a blanket during a cold day, drinking something warm and knowing everything's going to be fine.
Even though I still can't process that the Duke of Nottinvale is not called Duke but Alexander, I loved his character, how he struggled to follow the rules of Society when presented with such an amazing and independent woman as Cynthia Louise. Their relationship was just the cutest, and there was a puppy causing mayhem which just made it better.
This is the beautiful book my heart needed the finish 2020 with a smile despite it all.
The 12th book in the 12 books of xmas series and the one that ties up the final Duke. The dule that holds an annual party for xmas but never lives in Cressmouth at any other time, and as he is always hosting his arty, never finds out what other delights the town has to offer. Until he meets up with an ‘older’ spinster, who having endured many ‘Seasons’ and not having acquit=red any interest in marriage from suitors- and in fact rarely even been asked to danced – had decided that she could enjoy her herself in what would be termed scandalous pursuits if she were marriageable. She lutes the duke out of his party and into Cressmouth delights, but has a number of accidents with him as she does – including skiing and almost breaking his legs.
This was as always light, stylish and fun to read
This was a really enjoyable very short read. The characters were well written and the plot light and festive. A lovely escape for a couple of hours. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read a copy of this romance.
Exactly what I was looking for. This is a light-hearted period romance with protagonists you can cheer on as they fall in love. I've read quite a few books from this author and always enjoy them.
The Duke of Nottingvale knows his responsibilities: Duty and decorum above all else. A respectable lord would never sneak away for stolen moments with a fearless, audacious minx he cannot make his duchess. When I started reading I couldn't put it down.Erica Ridley is magnifysent and amazing writer.I cannot wait to read more of there books.Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this book. Can't wait for the next book
With the 12th book in the 12 Dukes of Christmas series, Erica Ridley has absolutely hit this one out of the park. The exceedingly proper Duke of Nottingvale is hosting a Christmas party, and has let it be known that he intends to select a bride. The guest list is full of eligible young ladies, all of whom would be eminently suitable to be his duchess… and one lady who is entirely unsuitable, but he can’t keep away from.
Cynthia Louise Finch is, at thirty, long past concerning herself what anyone thinks of her. She’s firmly on the shelf and has decided she rather likes it there, since she can do anything she likes without fearing incurring anyone’s disapproval. She does care very much about the welfare of her young cousin Gertrude, however, and plans to matchmake Gertrude with Nottingvale to save Gertrude from a much worse fate as planned by her father.
Cynthia Louise is an absolute delight. She’s whimsical, fearless, and loving. Frankly, the only thing I found incredible was that she didn’t already have hordes of swains throwing themselves at her feet. It was no wonder Nottingvale couldn’t resist her; she must have seemed like a neon rainbow blazing into his dull, grey, orderly world. They were fantastic together.
There were several callbacks to other books in the series, and while it must have been tempting to revisit everyone in this, the last of the 12, Ridley didn’t make that mistake, just sprinkling a few references with a gentle hand. She created a lovely world here in Cressmouth, the village where it’s always Christmas and dukes are around every corner (though not always the kind of duke you expect). I’ve been entirely charmed by it and I’d highly recommend the whole series to anyone looking to lose themselves in the spirit of Christmas… the whole year round.
Five stars for a lovely conclusion to a delightful series.
I so loved this book! Not only was it extremely well-written, it had well-developed, colorful and fun characters too! This book had me laughing and feeling so good all the way through it. It was a fun romp, but it was also a story with emotion and substance too. This book will leave you smiling and feeling very good. I highly recommend it!
In the fitting conclusion to the 12 Dukes of Christmas series, we finally get to meet the very proper (and handsome) Duke of Nottingvale. He has decided to host a holiday house party filled with lovely, proper young ladies who would make a suitable Duchess of Nottingvale. As events progress, the person who catches his attention is the very improper Cynthia Louise, who is chaperoning her niece. Will the Duke choose to do his duty or follow his heart? Find out in this entertaining holiday tale!
I’ve been eagerly awaiting Forever your Duke by Erica Ridley. This is the last installment in Ridley’s series The 12 Dukes of Christmas. I’ve been really enjoying reading the last third of the series. This book works well as a stand alone but I suggest reading at least Dawn with a Duke (#9).
Forever your Duke was a charming and fun read. We finally get Alexander, Duke of Nottingvale’s story. Every year he throws a big Christmas party in Cressmouth and invites many friends, family and the village takes part too!
This year Alexander is also hunting for a Bride. He is now thirty and feeling ready to do his duty. He is looking for someone extremely respectable to become his duchess. He has his mother breathing down his neck about it too.
Cynthia Louise Finch is bringing her cousin to the party this year to meet the Duke. Cynthia is friends with the Duke’s sister and has always like him. Cynthia is thirty and has become infamous. She loves outdoor sports, flouting the rules and also helping everyone.
I had so much fun reading the adventure in this book. It was fun to be at a party in the book when we can’t in real life (2020).
It is low on steam for those that are looking for just kissing. If you need a cozy, winter escape this will be delightful.
Thank you #NetGalley and Erica Ridley for the chance to read an ARC! All opinions are my own.

This was such a great read. I found it quite easy to get swept up into this fun and heartfelt romance. I really liked Cynthia and Alexander. I could connect and sympathize with Cynthia on so many levels and I admired her for letting go of all the expectations and just being. That is something so many of us struggle with. Alexander may have been a bit straight-laced but he was just waiting for the right woman to wake him up and help him embrace life. Their story heavily features a war between what they firmly believed with their heads and what their hearts truly wanted. Such a terrific read to close out this wonderful series.
Love anything written by Erica Ridley ; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the characters.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and I’m voluntarily leaving a review.
A delightful read! The chemistry between the respectable Duke of Nottingvale and the audacious Miss Cynthia Louise Finch bleeds onto every page. They get into amusing scraps with Cynthia Louise purposefully going against society’s rules and Nottingvale seemingly not being able to keep away from her even though he is looking for a respectable wife. You can’t help but fall in love with both and enjoy watching them fall in love with each other.
Opposites attract and Miss Cynthia Louise Finch was the day as His Grace Alexander Borland, Duke of Nottingvale was the night. The odd couple. Cynthia Louise is the most fun character I have ever read. She loves life, lives by her own rules and regrets nothing. Well, nothing except falling in love with Alexander. He is holding a Christmastide house party to find a wife and Cynthia Louise does not fit the mold of a ton proper duchess. She is branded a hoyden and some people in society treat her like a disease to be avoided and is disgusting. It use to hurt her but no longer. She has plenty of friends that accept her as she is, she does what she likes, she is free and happy. What more could she ask for? Nothing was going right for Alexander. His sister Belle is betrothed to his partner, a tailor and he and his mother feel it has brought scandal to their door. He must make an appropriate match to overshadow any negative scandal of his sister. The house party was delayed for two weeks due to the snow and now he had only two weeks to find a bride. When Cynthia Louise first arrived with her cousin Gertie her plan was to match her with Nottingvale. But Gertie had a requirement of her own. She insisted Cynthia Louise help Nottingvale evaluate each debutante for suitability and if in the end she found that Gertie was the one, she would then marry him. Well, the opportunity to get to know Alexander had opened but it was Alexander who became fascinated with Cynthia Louise and it did not stop. She tried to encourage Alexander to separate the duty of a duke and having a life as a person. As a result, he tried to play billiards and had fun; he tried to ski and felt terrified and exhilarated. He was falling for Cynthia Louise but knew he could never marry her. They tried to deny their attraction to each other but ended up with passionate kisses day after day. His mother was appalled he was neglecting his house guest to spend time with that horrible woman. Alexander was developing a backbone and was starting to show it. When Cynthia Louise was seriously injured, he realized he loved her, did not want to live without her but knew his duty would not permit him to marry her. He insulted her with his proposal of marriage. Told her she had to change to meet societies standards. She said no and slammed the door in his face. I could not blame her. If he loved her, he would have to accept her as she was. But Gertie even at eighteen gave Cynthia Louise some sage advice about how she no different than Alexander was. They were more alike than she realized. This opened Cynthia Louise's eyes but what to do now. In the end Alexander made his decision who to marry. A dynamic, page turning amusing story. I loved it. A must read.

Absolutely and completely adore anything by Erika Ridley and this one didn’t disappoint. I’m sad to see the 12 Dukes of Christmas is over but happy with all the books it included.
Forever Your Duke is a relatively short, definitely charming novel that kept me smiling. I'm pretty sure I even laughed out loud at least once (something I don't do often while reading). Alexander and Cynthia Louise are adorable and far from perfect, and the supporting cast--specifically Cynthia's cousin Gertie and her dog Max--added just the right amount of help. The book is the twelfth and final book in Erica Ridley's The 12 Dukes of Christmas series. It works fine as a standalone.
Cynthia, at 30, has been "on the shelf" for years, after suffering through season after season as a wallflower. She ultimately decided to embrace her single status and has spent the last few years enjoying herself. Alexander is a straightlaced duke who hosts a Christmas house party every year in his "cottage" in northern England. This year, he has announced his intention of choosing a bride from his guests. Cynthia attends the house party (as she does every year), but this time as a chaperone for her 18-year-old cousin Gertie. Her goal is for Alexander to choose Gertie to be his next duchess.
Plans go awry, as they tend to do, and hijinks ensue.
The basic plot itself isn't overly original, but Ridley's treatment of it certainly is. The attraction between Alexander and Cynthia is filled with snappy banter and sweet realizations. The steam level is PG, PG-13 at best, but I didn't actually miss it because I enjoyed the dialogue so much.
The story might have been 4 1/2 stars for me, but the author gets that other half for managing to sneak in just enough How the Grinch Stole Christmas references to be fun without overpowering the story. Houville. Max. CYNthia[DY] LOUise. Hee. I'm sure I didn't even catch all of them. That said, my heart might just have grown three sizes today.
I was grateful to receive an ARC of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
