To Whatever End is a fast fun YA read that reads and feels like a contemporary with a sprinkle of magic.
Quinn seems like you average teen girl however her family has long been plagued with a curse. For Quinn this means a vision with every first touch showing what will be the last time they see each other.
The pacing of this book was on point and I enjoyed watching the mystery unravel on each page. I did however guess the culprit before the mid way mark in the book which I feel mainly because the author decided to have such a small group of characters this didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the book as there was always something else new to learn. The cute romance that felt natural for the characters' ages as well as realistic older teenage dialogue made the story and characters feel very natural and not forced into their age bracket.
If you're looking for an easy to read YA that has a well balanced mix of romance and mystery this is definitely a book to pick up with the bonus of a supernatural ability that gives it an added twist.

“Fate didn’t turn out the way I’d planned. But fate apparently doesn’t care about plans. It doesn’t care about anything. And maybe we’re all just one decision away from a totally different life.”
To Whatever End is YA fantasy novel according to Goodreads.
I feel like I should say that I wouldn’t classify this as fantasy. I think if people come in to this book with the expectation of a fantasy novel they will be very disappointed. Our main character has visions of the way her relationships end with whom ever she touches. While very intriguing that is the most fantasy you will get.
I enjoyed this book overall. It was an easy read and the plot kept me on my toes. There is a mystery that needs solving and I of course figured out pretty much right away but that’s common for me.
My only complaint is that we didn’t get enough background on her visions or curse as the main character Quinn called it. I would have loved to know more about it.
I would definitely read more by this author and I recommend this if you’re looking for a quick easy YA book.
I really liked the thought behind To Whatever End. It started off very interesting but halfway through I lost interest. I was disappointed with the ending and the "twist" with Jack being Quinn's brother seemed odd. I was confused by the fact that Qunn's parenst didn't want do have anything to do with Jack when he found them. Great concept idea but I didn't care for the story.
Once I started reading this book, I could not put it down. This was finished in one sitting and by the end, I still had some questions hence the 4 stars instead of 5.
Quinn is cursed. Her mother was cursed as well as her grandmother. There were different degrees of the curse which led each young lady in the family to see different things. Quinn gets a vision of the last time she will ever see someone just by a touch. She can normally handle the visions without an issue until she meets Griffin, his vision tips her off balance because she sees him dying and confessing his love for her!
I liked Quinn enough but felt that her immaturity showed several times throughout the book. The back and forth with Griffin was a little exhausting and if it weren’t for a great mystery, I definitely was not reading for the romance. Don’t get me wrong, I like Griffin but their relationship ran hot and cold which left me frustrated. And their arguments were kind of just brushed under the carpet and not really discussed through.
As for the whole mystery of the book, there was a lot of foreshadowing so it was pretty easy to kind of see what was coming. I had to keep reading though to see if I was right. By the end, I wasn’t really too shocked.
I felt that the author could have elaborated more upon the curse. Where did the curse come from? What were the differences in each family member’s curse? What visions did her grandmother see? These questions were never answered and I felt like we were missing one big piece of the puzzle.
Even though all of my burning questions were not answered, I still very much enjoyed the story! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the review copy in exchange of an honest review.

I've read a bizarre amount of incredible "teen with supernatural powers accidentally finds out other teen will die and tries to fix it with the power of love" stories this year which may contribute to why I wasn't blown away by To Whatever End, but despite its more original premise, I found this pretty average. The story and romance moves very quickly and I think To Whatever End really could have benefitted from more peripheral details.
We don't get any scenes or character interactions that aren't 100% necessary to the romance or mystery and while filler is generally unneeded in books, adding additional details, characters, and interactions to serve as red-herrings in mystery-driven books is crucial. By limiting the cast and plot so much, it becomes very clear very quickly how the story is going to end. I also think we should have gotten a demonstration of Quinn's power before meeting Griffin to cause less of a need for exposition dumps down the line. Something as simple as showing her walk into the museum, bump into a person or two, and see their endings could establish her powers in a more casual, subtle way and could also serve to give readers a feeling of how they cause her constant anxiety about touching and alter her life. Having Quinn swerving around other patrons to avoid touching makes the actual opening scene where she sees Griffin and laments about how she can't touch or be with him seem a lot more organic because as is, it felt like Frydman rushing to get the story started. We never really see Quinn display similar anxieties about touching for the remainder of the novel, which makes the scene seem even more like it was there only because it needed to be.
Romance-wise, this was cute if a bit overly-fluffy but I know a lot of other readers really enjoy that kind of couple. I think the teen speak was really well handled with everyone except Olivia who's lack of personality beyond plot necessities made her sound like a walking exposition dumper (i.e. in her opening scene, she describes details Quinn obviously already knows to Quinn for no reason other than catching us up as readers) which I think is another issue that could have been resolved with a more fleshed out world and plot.
Quinn's ability made her play it safe for most of her life. Finally she meets someone she is willing to risk everything for. This makes her look more into her gift and the possibilities it holds. While the story was predictable it was a good read. Story was steady paced.

'To Whatever End' is premised on the paranormal but very intriguing idea that a person could see beyond the tangible through touch...up to the end of a relationship or of a life. At least, it was an interesting one that deserved a bit more detail that wasn't quite afforded here, as Lindsey Frydman chose to focus more on character development, namely, Quinn's obsession with trying to end her supernatural 'curse' by trying out different combinations of pushing away a guy that she likes in order to save him.
Much of the book continued in this vein: slow development into Quinn and Griffin's relationship, Quinn's increasing panic with the stalker and several threatening notes that makes her believe that they are both hurtling towards tragedy. But Frydman didn't really give credence to this paranormal gift of Quinn's in any case despite having set it up very well, bringing the story round through a series of events that suggested that Quinn's 'powers' might have really be grounded in something otherworldly, tempered with what individuals make out of their own realities.
As a result, 'To Whatever End' felt too much like a story composed of dangling loose ends - none of which really tied up solidly by the end - up until the climax that seemed like a convenient (and unbelievable) explanation of what really was affecting Quinn (or not). I was left befuddled more than satisfied; this turned out to be a story that held mind-bending potential, but never reached the stars.
To Whatever End was a story about a girl with a strange gift, thought she would call it a curse. Passed down to women in her family, she has the unwanted ability to see how someone will leave her life with a single touch.
When Quinn meets an incredibly handsome boy in an art gallery and they accidentally brush, her vision of him is terrible. He tells her he loves her. She feels the same... Then he dies. Knowing that her cursed visions inevitably come true, Quinn knows there is no use trying to avoid this boy, especially when Griffin ends up being her neighbor. It doesn't stop her from trying to save his life, while falling for him in the process.
This was a pretty thrilling story about the lengths people will go for love, how far they will go to protect people they care about. This was predictable, though. From about 25% into this book, I knew exactly how it was going to play out. I will say that it didn't really hinder my enjoyment of the story, as I still was very much invested in all of the characters and the outcome. Quinn has some people in her life (still alive and those who have passed on) who would do anything for her. And I definitely enjoyed getting to know them all.
I'm going to be honest--the cover was what first drew me to this book because when I first saw it, there was no synopsis.
But, as soon as I started reading I was so glad because right off I knew I would love the main character, Quinn.
Quinn is a pretty quiet protagonist who shies away from close relationships with boys; all because every time she touches someone she sees how the end of their relationship will come about. Understandable, this makes Quinn less-than-eager to pursue a relationship when she knows how those relationships will meet their demise.
In the case of Quinn's first meeting with Griffin, he touches her and from there--she actually does see his demise.
At this point, Quinn struggles internally with how much to pursue Griffin--whether or not to pursue him and just how much of the future is left to fate or control.
Quinn is an endearing character who dragged me along and made me empathize for her. Once you get into the story, there's so much more there to her backstory that unravels.
Griffin is a worthy hero and succeeds in charming Quinn and the reader into rooting for him and their love.
Questions of fate, how much is true love worth, and what sacrifice really means are all explored in this novel.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book. My review will be available at the given link on 1/8/21, as part of a blog tour.
I was very interested about the premise of this book because it was very unique. The execution, however, fell a bit flat for me. The plot of the story was good but it could have been better and more gripping. It could have also been less predictable. Regardless, this was still a very fast and relatively fun read and I would still recommend it.
I read the first chapter and could not get into the story. The thought process of Quinn was choppy and the conversation between her Griffin was stilted. Quinn came across as whiny when going over her problems of having visions. By the time I reached the second chapter I knew where the story would go and I didn't feel like reading something predictable that didn't capture my attention.

I Liked:
*I wasn’t sure what to expect from reading the synopsis but I was pleasantly surprised at how the mystery kept me engaged in the story. Quinn is cursed with visions when she touches someone. She can see how she and that person comes to an end, like her last memory with them. Quinn meets Griffin and her vision of him is not good so she tries to stay away, but that’s hard to do when they run into each other again.
*Now that she has this vision, Quinn needs to decide to either stay away from him or maybe someone change the future. But can she change the future? Is Griffin worth it? She thinks so.
*Not only does Quinn have to figure out how to change Griffin’s future, someone is harassing her and Griffin with threatening actions and notes. Is it something from Griffin’s past or Quinn’s?
*The connection between Quinn and Griffin is instant, but I think it develops nicely where Quinn and Griffin get to know each other over dinner and coffee before things get serious.
Random Notes:
*Triggers: stalking, violence, grieving
*Even though the mystery kept me engaged, you could pretty much connect the dots and see what was coming.
*I’d like to know more about the curse. We know it’s in her family, her mom had it and her grandmother does too, but it seems they have it in different degrees? I didn’t really connect to any of the characters.
Final Thoughts:
I think the premise of the story was interesting and kept me engaged with the added mystery and thriller aspect. I would have liked to know more about Quinn’s abilities and maybe not have the story be so predictable. I think there will be many readers that enjoy this paranormal romance mystery story.
Honestly the whole premise was so cool like she had the most unhelpful power ever which I think is extremely funny. I did not like the whole instalove storyline though that was a bummer
I'm not crying! Okay, maybe I am...
Wow! What a journey!
I'd like to point out that I'd consider this book a YA Contemporary Romance with some mysterious twists thrown in as the plot is pretty focused on Quinn's relationship with a certain boy she meets. Yes, she does have visions, but I don't think that's enough to push this book into 'Fantasy' territory. Now, that being said, the plot is solid! It does get a tad predictable at times and the ending was what I was rooting for the whole book, BUT I loved the story so much and became so invested in Quinn and her choices, I didn't care about the predictability.
If you love sweet YA romance, Mysteries/Thrillers, or just a crazy rollercoaster ride...I'd definitely recommend checking this one out! It's a fantastic book and I wholly enjoyed it.
Big thanks to Entangled Teen via NetGalley for providing an e-arc for me to read and honestly review!
I loved the premise of this! The curse of visions was very neat, and not something I think I’ve read before. Unfortunately, I found quite a bit pretty predictable about the rest of the plot, and I just didn’t get the romance - it felt very instalove and that’s not really my thing. I would definitely try another book from this author, and recommend picking it up if you’re feeling a YA romance with a bit of a fantastical twist to it.
Imagine having a curse that will tell you how a person leaves your life. That is what Quinn has and once she meets a cute boy that she likes, she touches him and finds out he dies in her arms.
First of I found this a very creative idea and I haven’t heard of anything quite like this before. Quinn, the main character, is a lot different from other books I have read. She is actually into photography and I find that quite refreshing from I read books romance novels. I especially enjoyed that we knew who the bad guy is but we didn’t know his motive till the end. It was excellent writing technique at that point.
Honestly the only thing I had a problem with was that at times it felt very faster paced but others it was so slow I had trouble reading it. But is a book I would definitely recommend.
**Thanks to Entangled Publishing and Netgalley for sending this for me to review.**
This was an enjoyable story about a girl who has a vision of a boy saying he loves her, and then dying. I enjoyed the book, though I did find it fairly predictable. There are a few things I think could have been done better, but overall I think it was a fun read.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Quinn has a strange ability to see the end of her relationship with a person when she touches them. Most of the time, she brushes a stranger's arm and they will never see each other again. However, when Quinn meets an attractive musician at a museum, she sees him die--in her arms. He tells her he loves her before he bleeds out. Desperate to find a way to save this stranger, Quinn attempts to get close to him to prevent his death. Things get much more difficult when she realizes that she seems to be the reason he dies.
This book was pretty good! I read it in one sitting! I loved Quinn's desire to save Griffin and change fate. Her ability seemed interesting and I wish it was discussed more. Griffin was sweet and I wanted him to be with Quinn so bad! The plot kept me reading until I finished the entire book! My only complaint was that the story seemed a bit rushed and the mystery aspect seemed a little predictable. Other than that, I really enjoyed watching Quinn in her attempts to save Griffin while falling for him.
Readers looking for a short YA romance should give this a shot!
Okay so I literally read this entire book in one sitting. I am one of those readers that will stay up reading a book. Especially if It’s a good book. I was unable to put it this book down. The story follows Quinn a 17-year old girl that has experienced the loss of her parents. She is unable to touch others without having a vision that shows her the last encounter with person. This burden leaves her feeling like she can't connect with anyone until she meets Griffin. The development of the relationship great. I found Quinn struggles between wanting something more with Griffin, but also wanting to stay away to prevent their ending. The plot of the story is good although there are aspects of the book that are predictable at times. The love story aspect was great. Although I think it would have been great to see them confess their feelings for each other a little sooner in the story. I also found Quinn repetitive at times with her inner dialogue. The story is great though it has the perfect mix of romance and mystery. It kept me engaged and I didn't want to put the book down. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it.
I am voluntarily reviewing this book after receiving an ARC of the story.
Cursed to see how every relationship she’s in ends, Quinn has been avoiding relationships but one day she runs into a handsome guy at a museum, and you know what they say about fate, sometimes it’s just meant to be. Sadly for her, she gets a vision of him dying in her arms saying he loves her... whats a girl to do? Quinn is instantly drawn to Griffin, a guitar playing guy who’s running away from his past and recently moved into her neighborhood and they just keep running into each other, no matter how much Quinn is trying to avoid making his fate come true. Quinn has resolved to save him but mysterious events keep occurring to the point where she doesn’t know if the killer is after her, or Griffin. I thought the story was fine and the premise was really interesting. I was just expecting a bit more to happen and I kind of already figured out the mystery early on so I wasn’t exactly surprised by how things went. Overall, this was a fast read and I think a lot of people can have with this romance mystery. I was hoping for a bit more magic and a bit more exploration of Quinn’s curse but oh well.
