3.5 stars! I saw the movie on Netflix, and everyone was posting about this book so when it was up on Net galley I had to give it a try!!! The movie wasn’t an academy award winner, but I found humor in it, and there was definite chemistry in the two leads!! The book was a bit different. It was quite dark. Massimo was very dominating and mercurial. I wished we could have gotten inside his head to hear his thoughts! Laura seemed a bit immature and wishy washy. I did enjoy the descriptions of Italy and could picture the beautiful estate where they stayed. Keeping in mind that, The Man in Black, is in the mafia helped to understand some of the things that transpired. Like the movie, there was definitely chemistry between the two of them. The book ended differently than the movie. So I am very curious to see what happens in the next book!!!
Wow! I’ve been wanting to watch the movie, but decided to read the book. As a reader it just made sense! Oh my....this book puts 50 Shades to shame! It’s oh so hot!!! You’ll love it, but if you don’t I’m worried about you! Now onto the movie!
Okay, I was one who has watched the movie first but was offered to read the book for the blog. I am also one of those people who always thinks that a book is always so much better than the movie. In this case, I do still agree.
This is an interesting and very HOT story. The concept of it is different than anything I have read before. There is a “head of the mob” who is in love with a woman he does not even know. Massimo had a life-threatening event in his life. While he was experiencing it, he saw a vision of a woman. He has had pictures drawn of her and a painting of her done. When he finally actually sees “Laura” in real life, he must have her. He takes her and gives her 365 days to fall in love with him. Well, it does not take that long. But the story goes into how that all plays out...which is very STEAMY!
I have read some other reviews and have to agree with someone who mentions that the author uses “The Man In Black” a lot to describe Massimo. When “Laura” thinks about him, she always refers to him as “The Man In Black” but then sometimes refers to him as “Massimo”. It is a little overused.
It also annoyed me how sometimes while describing certain body parts, the author uses “slang” words but then other times uses very “proper” words. It was somewhat interesting how it just didn’t flow well when it came to some terms that were used. This may be something that was lost in the translation from Polish to English.
But what I can tell you...there are several differences from the movie to the book. You will just have to read it to discover the differences. You will not regret it. It also makes me wonder if there will be another story.
Loved it!! I didn't realize it was also a Movie!?! I haven't seen the movie, but the book was wonderful! This is a new author for me and I will definitely be reading more from her!
This story definitely reads like the a moment in time that Romance was in a while ago and still exists to an extent. Loaded with brands and shopping, the story itself is a little flimsy, but if you’re a fan of the movie adaptation, I think you’ll really appreciate the heat level. The sex scenes are just as amazing in this book and is worth the read for that alone.
I enjoyed getting to read this one after really loving the movie. There was a lot more development here, which is usually the case with books that are then made into movies. Some of the material was a little ehhh to me; however, I think that’s what comes from having a man like Massimo as the MC. Overall, I’m really happy that this translation is not available as it just simply gave me more insight into the characters and the stories that I so loved.
This review is my own opinion in response toreceiving an early copy of this book. Thank you Netgalley. So I knew about this series before it was translated and waited years for this. Was not disappointed. Like many, I enjoyed the Netflix adaptation of this novel and the film sticks pretty close to the book. I hate that it ends on a cliffhanger. I need book 2 ASAP!
3 1/2 stars....
I was drawn to read this book because of the movie. When I started it, I wasn't sure I could continue it. In my opinion the main character had no redeeming qualities. Even if the hero is a "bad guy," I want to see something positive in him. It took me a good portion of the book to see that with Massimo. Laura was also difficult for me to connect with. I understand her frustration, given the fact that she'd been kidnapped. However, she still seemed over the top "difficult" to me.
One reason I initially continued this book was because I like variety in what I read. This was definitely different from anything else I've read recently. Also, I do love a good mafia book. I do need to point out that a little of this storyline required me to totally suspend reality. I think the storyline isn't exactly a believable one....but I could be wrong. Regardless, it did manage to pull me in and at that point, I had to see how it ended. Of course, we are waiting for the completion of their story in a book scheduled to come out later this year. So the story goes on....
Terrible book. I couldn't get past the first 30 percent of this. Maybe in the language it was originally attended for it made more since. Maybe while being translated in English things where lost in translation. I dont know but this book was a no from this reader
This book was average. I did enjoy the plot and the characters but I felt like I couldn’t connect well with them and that made the reading experience not enjoyable.
Super sharp, dark, and deliciously sexy. Seductive. Filthy and intoxicating. Awesome read!! #NetGalley
While this book could has been seen as quite controversial (and movie) I feel like the reviews saying it is terrible are not fair. There is absolutely no way you don’t know what this book is about since it has had so much press, so if it’s not something you would normally like, don’t read it.
It is hard to comment on the writing of 365 Days since it is originally written in Polish and translated for us in the USA, but I found it easy to read and overall good. I enjoyed the story; the characters were interesting and the plot while a bit ridiculous was very entertaining. It does leave off on a cliffhanger, so you will need to plan on reading book 2 (This Day, to be released Dec 2021). I will definitely be reading the rest of the series when they are released.
honestly this one was a bit much for me & i couldnt help but cringe while reading it. the lead characters just didnt do it for me they seemed a bit annoying & i understand the whole mafia romance concept but there was something about massimo that just seemed a little much for me. overall not a big fan of this one. it just missed the mark for me.
Not well written and had a pretty ridiculous plot. Was quite hard to get through but I powered through. Just watch the movie instead tbh.
Loved Massimo and Laura. This sexy, intriguing story kept me glued to the pages. I saw the movie and couldn’t wait for the English translation of the book. Can’t wait for book two!
I have been waiting for the english version of this book to come out since I first saw the movie last year and I was so excited to see that it was finally being released. This book was as good as I was expecting it to be. I love mafia and dark romances and that’s exactly what this was. Massimo kidnaps Laura and gives her 365 days to fall in love with him before he will set her free. The subject of the book is very similar to 50 Shades of Grey, and fans of that series will love this one too. I am looking forward to reading the next book once it is translated.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC!
I think I need to start off with the fact that if this hadn't been made into a movie, I probably would have never picked it up. I have seen enough memes from the movie to pique my interest in the book. If this hadn't made the rounds on social media, I would have never looked twice. I love these types of stories too. It's not the story line, as I had a general idea of what was going to happen but more so that there are just better books with similar plots. I am curious now if the movie might actually be better than the book.
I saw somewhere where another review mentioned glorifying bad men who do bad things. That's the ultimate appeal of a bad boy, and Massimo doesn't disappoint. As don of a mafia family, Massimo is used to taking what he wants. Whether it's cars, money, businesses, or women, there's nothing that's going to stop him. He has one weakness though - the face of a women who haunts his dreams. He has no idea who she is until she shows up in his city on the arm of another man. I actually thought that Massimo wasn't that bad. His actions were that of a traditional alpha. In fact, I thought he could have been a little bit more possessive as he allowed Laura to control situations without any clue of what was going on around her.
Laura has no clue why the Man in Black keeps appearing in random places, but there's something that attracts her. I didn't mind Laura in the beginning. She's written as a strong female character who is trying to survive a game that she has no idea what the rules are. As I got more into the story, I really felt that she was an overaged brat with a cycle of behavior. At first she would be unreasonably angry, and then in the next section, she'd claim that this was the love of her life. If it had been for a little while, I wouldn't have minded. Each character has to decide what's best for them. However, this went on and on through out the whole book. The wishy washy behavior really undermined the strength of the character . She exhibited severe prima donna behavior and at times it was questionable whether or not she loved Massimo or what he could provide. The ending didn't really help my opinion of her.
I realize that this book was translated from the original. I am not going to touch on the fact that the translation could have been much better. I felt that it had a disjointed feel when reading because things weren't a perfect match. If it would have been me, I would have had the book translated first and then edited to make it smoother. I can overlook that, but the overall plot just wasn't that great. At times, I couldn't make the case for why these characters should keep fighting for each other. I am not even sure why I pushed to finish this book as at one point, I thought it would be better if they actually did split up. I know that this is a series, but I don't think I will be continuing with it.
Steamy story about a guy who has a vision of a girl, and 5 yrs later he finds her in the flesh and not in this dreams. He takes her captive determined to have her fall in love with him in 365 days. If she doesn’t he will let her go. If she escapes he will kill her family. Will she fall for him? Can you fall for someone who keeps you captive?
Thank you to Netgalley for complimentary copy.
I didn't really care for this one. I found the romance to be very unbelievable and I did not develop a connection to the characters. Some of this could have been lost in the translation, but I don't think it would be enough to sway my rating very far.
I admit I clicked on this because of all of the hype surrounding the tv movie being made ... so when the translated version came available here it was a no brainer. I would say it is definitely not a perfect translation, it is choppy, the story is a 50 shades kind of level and you should not expect too much from it. That being said- for what it is- it was a fun enough read and I didn't DNF it. Thank you to NetGalley for the copy of it.
