As a therapist, this has been an incredibly helpful book to add to my own knowledge, and that I plan to add to the shelves at my office as a reference for parents.
The more I learn about sensory processing, integration, and regulation, the more I realize how many of my clients benefit from additional support around these issues. Having the language and tools here has helped me help parents and older children utilize strategies to address sensory regulation before implementing more traditional strategies related to behavior or use of coping skills.
I love that this book includes both the theoretical background and education in a way that's understandable even for people who don't speak therapist, as well as including concrete, practical strategies families can implement.
Thanks to New Harbinger and NetGalley for a copy of this book to review. All opinions are my own.
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book.
I was interested in this book due to working with children. This has given me a lot of insight on what sensory regulation is and how to help a child process this and cope with it. I think this book can be useful to anyone that has a child that may have sensory regulation related problems or if they work in a field where they may come across a child with this diagnosis.
I was initially interested in this book as a teacher, looking for information and perhaps some practical tips on how to best interact and support children with sensory issues.
Although geared towards parents it was still a beneficial read. I especially like the built in time for reflection in 'Take A Moment' slots.
The case studies offered a sometimes familiar scenario that helped me develop the beginnings of a better understanding. Additionally it offered some support for parents in realising that they are not alone in the difficulties and issues faced by their children and their family unit.
