This book was okay! My kids like reading this in small group lessons. I’m not sure how I could integrate it as a third grade novel study, but I am happy to have this one on my radar for own voices representation in my classroom.

Thank you, Kids Can Press, for the copy.

This is such a well meant book for very young middle grade readers. I find the cover and the illustrations really eye popping even though they are in grey white shades. It’s impressive.

I don’t think the cover will get any better than this because I will be comparing as this is the best!

Our main character young Wednesday is someone who’s quite believed that she’s going to be a great entrepreneur and nothing can stop her. Plans do get disrupted but she’s got her best friend and brother so why should she stop making plans?

She keeps trying and tries to find solutions. I just love these young characters.

Looking forward to the rest of the series

While I enjoyed this title, unfortunately, our library didn't purchase it. I was hoping to see it added to our shelves because I definitely think it will appeal to a broad range of readers.

Wednesday Wilson Gets Down to Business, by Bree Galbraith, illustrations by Morgan Goble, published by Kids Can Press

I spend a lot less time reading early chapter books than I do picture books, but get to share one with you today! Wednesday Wilson Gets Down to Business is a charming story about Wednesday, a young girl with her heart set on coming up with the perfect business idea. When Wednesday’s newest venture doesn’t go as planned, she learns that sometimes her actions don’t quite line up with her intentions.. and for that, there can be consequences. But, an entrepreneur at heart, she takes what she’s learned and perseveres.

Wednesday is clever, funny, and makes mistakes – almost a Kristy from The Babysitters Club with a hint of Nancy Drew. In fact, all the characters are pretty fun: the mean Emmas (plus one Emmet) and her best friend Charlie all have their own personalities. Wednesday helps out a neighbour next door who has agoraphobia, by bringing him his groceries, and it’s clear that Mr. Wright speaks wisdom into her life, and Wednesday admires him.

The illustrations by Morgan Goble are really cute — Wednesday has the best little business outfit to complement her personality, and I think kids will like the little notes and diagrams.

Finally, Wednesday is mixed race with two moms, and seeing that representation is refreshing. She’s a character lots of readers will feel inspired by (although hopefully they can learn from some of her mistakes!) and enjoy her gumption.

This is the kind of book I would have loved and devoured as a child, I was as much of a bookworm back then as I am now (if possible a bit more! You know life without adult responsibilities). This book had a way of allowing me to lose myself in the story, as if I was back to being 8 or 9 reading for hours after school. I think a lot of kids are gonna love this one if you're on the hunt for a good book to gift them that has great representation and diversity of characters with a strong female protagonist.

Wednesday Wilson is precocious, driven, self-assured, and resourceful. She's a great role model for young readers. Although she does make a few questionable choices, her intentions were good and she learns from her mistakes, making her realistic and relatable.

I love the diversity of characters, LGBTQ+ representation, and strong female protagonist. The pace is quick enough to keep young readers interested, with plenty of kid humor to keep them laughing. The illustrations are adorable and just the right amount of picture support.

The book is listed for 6-9 year old readers. The readability is a bit high for most 6 and 7 year olds, but they'll enjoy listening to the story read aloud. In fact, this would make a wonderful read-aloud and discussion in a first or second grade classroom. Older chapter book readers (8+) will be better able to read the book independently.

I received a copy of the ebook from the publisher via netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely LOVE the representation in this book, lesbian moms, biracial kids, female entrepreneurs? Sign us up!! These are the kinds of books we need to fill our shelves with.

As an entrepreneur myself, I know my kids will be able to relate a lot to this book, and how Wednesday speaks about her mother's work. I love that they will have a book they can relate to lifestyle wise.

Our daughter is soooo into the idea of running a business, I'm very excited to share this book with her. Seeing a story about another young girl coming up with inventive ways to make money/create new products will be perfectly in line with her interests.

I liked that the book went over some of the entrepreneurial process in a way that kids could easily understand, it will really help spark some good conversations in our home.

(Thanks to Netgalley for letting me review this book) Wednesday is a fun and original main character. The book does well to explain buisness jargon and diversity terminology in an easy-to-follow way. While the book is centered around Wednesday the other characters are given a pretty detailed description so you feel like you know everyone. I also loved the illustrations which further displayed the diversity in the characters and the way the author chose to show the diversity in the children's parenting/households as well as various family types.

Wednesday and her friends create a business plan that has questionable consequences--but she doesn't realize it during her enthusiastic planning. The story centers around school and dealing with the dynamics of her young peers. Maybe a sequel will be planned? Very creative and likable characters and lots of opportunity to share the possible values of what's plotted.

Wednesday Wilson is an incredible character! Bree Galbraith has brought Wednesday, her school and friends to life in this entertaining book, Wednesday Wilson Gets Down to Business. My 6 year old would have read it all in one go if we didn't have to tell her to go to bed. I loved the character and story as much as she did!

I hope that this will be the first of many books about Wednesday Wilson!

The publisher made a copy of this book available via Netgalley, this is my honest review.

A huge thanks to Kids Can Press for my e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book tells the story of Wednesday Wilson a very spirited entrepreneurial girl who refuses to let anyone deter her from being an entrepreneur. She and her best friend, Charlie, and with some help from her little brother, Mister, have made a list of potential businesses to start. But before they can ponder on it and with a little nudge from an unfortunate incident in class with a little 'meanie girl' they end up starting a business (Hint: It involves a book). I absolutely loved the book and the illustrations were just so amazing . I highly recommend this book!

Thanks to NetGalley i read this good book before premier

It's an annoying book at times, but why, I liked it. This book tells us about a girl's project, an entrepreneurial project. But it does something that is not allowed, and logically that is not done.

In the end I came to understand the plot of the book well, that's why I rate it well, it could says. 3.5

Wednesday Wilson knows what she wants. She wants to be an entrepreneur, and she wants to start now. So she brainstorms with her best friend Charlie and her little brother Mister to figure out what her first business should be.

But before Wednesday can do that, she has to deal with The Kale Incident, which means dealing with the Emmas.

The Emmas (there are 4 of them, but technically one is Emmet) are the mean girls in Wednesday’s class, and because of The Kale Incident, they’re blackmailing Wednesday to get what they want. And what they want is the new invention Wednesday is going to sell with her new business: a Secret Keeper.

But Wednesday came up with that on the spur of the moment. Will she and Charlie be able to come up with something to be a Secret Keeper? And will it be enough to keep the Emmas happy, or will Wednesday end up getting in trouble anyway?

Wednesday Wilson Gets Down to Business is a fun early chapter book for kids 8-10. It weaves lessons about business into a sweet story of a girl trying to maneuver her ambitions and going to school and dealing with bullies. Author Bree Galbraith has created this character with a strong sense of who she is and what she wants. And illustrator Morgan Goble brings her to life with adorable drawings filled with life and energy.

I really liked Wednesday Wilson Gets Down to Business. I love that she has two supportive moms (technically a mom and a mum) and that she isn’t afraid to chase after her dreams. She is helpful, focused, driven, and she can think on her feet. I think she’ll be a good role model for young girls who also have a lot of ideas about who they are and where they want to go. It’s a short book, but it’s packed with action and personality and ideas and fun.

Egalleys for Wednesday Wilson Gets Down to Business were provided by Kids Can Press through NetGalley, with many thanks.
