Thanks NetGalley for this preview!

This book might have earned more stars from me in print. The multiple characters, letter writing format and bits of different languages really threw me off. I felt like it was hard to connect with each character because so many things happened between letters. Some of the narration was hard to follow but the accents were also pretty at times. It was a good book but not a love connection!

The Lost Manuscript is an absolute delight! This audio book is a charming escape in this time of heaviness, narrated in multiple voices that bring the epistolary structure to life with wonderful accents and lovely reads. The Lost Manuscript of the title turns up in a. French hotel room decades after it was lost on a. plane flight to Montreal. The discovery of the manuscript and a curious reader is all that's needed to connect readers, writers, hotel guests and lovers via letter as they try to sort out the mystery of where the book has been for 20 years. Missing travel? Adore books about books? Love French accents? The Lost Manuscript audio book is the perfect treat.

The format of this book was very interesting, told through letters. The setting in Paris, couldn't love it more. I got to check out both the book and the audio; the audio is my preferred format for this one since it's rare to get multiple narrators doing different parts. It really makes a difference!

This was an interesting historical journey using a lost Manuscript as the vehicle. The story is told through letters. I listened to it on audio and wished that I had a physical copy. Time jumps and multiple characters work out better when you can refer back to them. The accents while charming made it a little tougher for me to follow.

I listened to the translation for English of this audiobook. First of all, let me say that the accents of the various narrators kind of threw me for a loop. Yes, I'm sure they were charming for some, but the names of the cities and places that were spoken in their given language just left me grabbing for straws as far as figuring out what was going on. I'm also not a HUGE fan of the story given in the form of letters written to each other.
That said, the story was charming and unique. The unraveling of the mystery as they went back and discovered in which hands the found manuscript had been in was intriguing. I also loved that the correspondents became friends and exchanged meaningful and sometimes secret parts of their lives. The fact that each was impacted in some way by the manuscript was a delightful tribute to the written word.
I was given a complimentary copy of this audiobook via NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.

What a charming tale told all in written exchanges: emails, texts, but mostly letters. Yes, letters. When was the last time you wrote a letter? While vacationing in France, Anne-Lise finds a manuscript that enchants her. She sends the manuscript back to the author and starts up an ongoing correspondence with him and others involved with the the manuscript as they work to track down the person that finished the manuscript.

I listened to the audio version and was just smitten listening to the quaint tale told in all those accents. The narrators are great! I recommend the audio version of this book.

The Lost Manuscript was a wonderful book. The audiobook was very well done and kept me intrigued. I really enjoyed the letter format of the book.

This ended up not being my thing. The story was written in letters which I can sometimes enjoy but not this time. The story wasn’t interesting to me. I think perhaps if I was reading this in physical form instead of audio I would have enjoyed it more.

There was to many different characters for me. I enjoy dual POV but when you talk about every person who came in contact with the manuscript, it becomes to much.

I also didn’t find as much enchantment in this as the synopsis makes it out to be and I didn’t find it as much of a mystery as I thought it would be.

I thought the writing was nice but over all this was rather boring. I would not recommend this to just anyone. Its a dry romantic mystery but not the mystery of which I like. I want it to be much more.

If you like more literary or romance and enjoy lots of characters and books in letter format then I old recommend. But it was a slow read for me. Nothing major climactic. I personally would not recommend this if you enjoy actual mystery novels.

This was a free audiobook from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Anne-Lise finds a curious manuscript while vacationing with her family on the Brittany coast. She then embarks on a captivating adventure through the written word to find the author (or authors as she soon discovers). During her investigation she is introduced to a myriad of people who have been touched and inspired by the manuscript as is was passed from person to person.

This charming novel is definitely one for bibliophiles and romantics. It is told entirely through the exchange of letters, and the readers do an amazing of job of helping the characters jump off the ‘pages’ and giving the listener a real well-rounded sense of them.

Although it is no literary masterpiece, and it does lag at certain points, this is a sweet quick read/listen and goo book when one is looking for an escape into a light-hearted little mystery, and ultimately human connection through the written word.

After finding a manuscript in her hotel room a woman searches for the author. She finds the original author but learns that they did not finish the book, someone else did that. She starts a search to find out what happened when the original author lost the manuscript and how and who finished the story.

I really liked the format and that the story is told in multiple voices in the form of letters and emails.

This is a fun book.

I didn’t realize the audiobook would leave my Netgalley shelf on the archive date. I didn’t listen in time and so won’t be able to give feedback on the audiobook. Thank you for the opportunity.

This is a fun little epistolary novel full of a great range of characters. They did a really good job of creating plausible reasons for letters except a little bit at the end. But I loved the twists and turns of where the book took you. I was excited to see where the journey would take us. The only thing I was a little surprised by was how many people were affected by car accidents, it seemed like a high number for the handful of people the book involved.
The audiobook narrators were awesome, they perfectly fit the characters they were easy to distinguish for each letter being read. I also liked the French accents to set the scene for where this was taking place.
Overall a fun, heartwarming novel to make you think about the impact you have on others' lives.

I received an audio ARC of this book through NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased opinion.

In the bedside stand in her hotel room on the Brittany coast, Anne-Lise finds an abandoned manuscript. Reading the manuscript, she falls in love with it and sends it to the address listed on the manuscript, hoping to return it to its owner. The author, shocked, writes back and lets her know that he lost this manuscript over 30 years ago. Not only that, but the ending of the book was written by someone else, after he lost it. Anne-Lise is determined to find out what happened to the manuscript during those 30 years and who wrote the ending to the book. As she tracks down people whose lives have been touched by this manuscript, friendships are formed, and romances blossom.

I love that this book was written entirely in letters. All four narrators of the audio book did a fantastic job with the narration. I didn't want this book to end because I loved seeing how those connected to the book became close and formed a new community. After hearing how taken with the book all of these characters are, though, I have to admit I'm a little jealous that I can't actually read the manuscript since it doesn't exist! I definitely recommend checking out this book!

So good! I really enjoyed this book! It is a joy for any book lover who already feels like words are magic. The quest to uncover the ending and unfurl the information a great mystery journey.

(Sorry for the late review, I thought I had already submitted for some reason it didn’t take.)

Thank you for allowing an opportunity to read this.

I was very pleased to receive an advanced reader copy of this epistolary novel set in France. I thought I would love this book, but I was unable to connect with any of the characters. I did think that the narrators were very good, though, and really gave it a nice French flavor. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

The Lost Manuscript by Cathy Bonidan is an epistolary novel made for bibliophiles. With the resurgence of penpalling under quarantine, I found the letters and emails as primary mode of communication premise more believable than perhaps some other did. It’s a novel that moves at an elegant pace, which is to say it’s one that can be savored.

I had the chance to listen to the novel from Dreamscape Media, and multiple narrators added to the experience: Élodie Yung (Narrator), Rupert Degas (Narrator), Cecile Delepiere (Narrator), Jean Brassard (Narrator). Run time is 5 hours and 24 minutes.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sharing this book with me. All thoughts are my own.

This was a super quick audiobook listen - only 5 1/2 hours. The premise is that a woman finds a manuscript in a hotel room and proceeds to track down the writer. The novel is told through letters written between the main characters, and I was not a fan. The concept was interesting - I normally love a treasure hunt. While I felt like big pieces of the story were missing, I don’t care enough to read more about this. I’d pass if I were you.

I was able to receive this book as an audio book. This book is written in letter form which is a nice change. The characters were voiced by different people which was fun but could be difficult for some to follow. However, some of the accents were too difficult to understand what was being said. I think if i could have gotten an ebook, I think I would have enjoyed it more. I will definitely be checking it out in hard print!

Thank you to netgalley, the author, and publishers for allowing me this story for an honest review.

A cute little epistolary story that's a love letter to the inspiration authors give their readers as much as it is to second chances at love of all kinds. Told entirely through letters (and a few emails) the sorry tells the tale of a lost manuscript being found, its history being traced, and the found families that support and find each other through the journey. At times it is pretty fluffy, but it's a satisfying beach read and the different actors used in the audiobook version gave a lot of zest to the letter-driven plot (and it was pretty hard to believe that that many people would only or primarily communicate through letters in 2016.....). Enjoyable if not as life changing as it was for its characters.

The idea of the story intrigued me. However, the amount of characters paired with the epistolary form of the book made it hard to keep track of things, which hindered my ability to care about the characters. Part of this may be due to listening rather than reading, but I've listened to multi-character epistolary books before that I was very engaged with, so I think this book just maybe didn't hit its stride or dig deep enough early enough or perhaps overall. All that said, I can see other readers enjoying this, so I will likely still recommend it to library patrons.
