There is no one quite like Danielle Girard! She is a master at mystery / thrillers and Far Gone starts with a bang (literally) and doesn't relent til the very end. While this is book 2 in the series, you can definitely read as a standalone.

Highly recommend this book!

Far Gone is the second installment in the Badlands thriller & this book & series is very different to every book I've read - in a good way! The book opens with a super creepy chapter that reeled me right in. I could feel my heart race with every page turn with this book. The book just kept getting more thrilling up until 75%. The book kind of gives away strong clues about the killer so it wasn't difficult for me to figure out who did it. But that took me some time. Time I enjoyed a lot. But figuring out the why & how was important to me so the pages kept turning! The fact that the book is based in a small sleepy town somehow creeps me more. The characters were amazing & plot was exciting, highly twisted & compelling. I'm happy I picked this series! Cant wait for the next one!

Thank you NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer & Danielle Girard for an arc!

Do any of you all get butterflies in your stomach when you read? Like you can’t settle them with every page you turn? This is what happens every single time I read ANYTHING by Danielle Girard, and a reason why she will ALWAYS be one of my favorite authors. This is only the 6th book I’ve read by her (don’t worry I’m still working on the backlist of earlier work) and as always Far Gone had me on the edge of my seat like I was on a roller coaster bout to go down the very first dip at high speed. I kept finding myself wanting more with each page turn, wanting to know how it was going to end. Questioning how people connect with one another. And by the end, everything came together wrapped up in a pretty bow. Did I cry at a certain point? Yes because I’m an emotional man and lose it on happy/sad moments. Easily one of my favorite books of the year and I’m already anticipating the next book in this series. I truly hope there is a next book in this series. Congrats on book #15 🤗

This story grabbed my attention from the beginning and didn’t let go! The plot is entertaining and well developed. It kept me guessing who the killer was til the very end. The characters are intriguing. There are three different storylines in the book, which makes it complex, but not hard to understand. I really enjoyed this book. *this honest review is based on a complimentary copy from the author*

14-year old Hannah Visser arrives at the Garza’s to babysit their infant daughter and witnesses an intruder murder the couple while she hides in a closet. Both high on drugs and terrified, she takes the baby and flees.

Detective Kylie Milliard is called to the scene, where DNA found there closely matches Lily Baker, a nurse at the local hospital who was abducted as a teen (her backstory is covered in the first book in this series, White Out, which isn’t required reading to understand what’s going on in this installment, but certainly helps). Once the detective discovers there was a witness, the race begins to find Hannah before the killer does. The book then follows the three female-led storylines, which intersect throughout and come together in a surprising and action-packed conclusion. While White Out had some vague and questionable plot issues, the author has made great strides this time around, and I think this series is off to a good start and will only continue to improve!

NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer kindly provided me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Now that ending was so full of twists it was amazing. The story is interesting. There is a witness to murder that starts this book. The babysitter hides then goes on the run after saving the baby. The detective is on the case and hunting for the witness. The story starts with a small cast of characters but has the story unfolds the character count increases. The author is good about telling some backstory to explain emotions and actions. I thought the book was well done. I read this one quickly...it was a page turner.

Swift, noir and female-centric, this second installment in the Badlands series is even better than the first one!
We start with a murder and the pace does not slow down since, covering both actions and emotions as the killing is only the beginning. Because there is an unknown witness to the scene, and their entanglement with the case is going to bring even more secrets out into the light.

I like how Hanna is portrayed and I am glad to meet Lily and Kylie again. These two are tough cookies and they will definitely need it! Luckily, they can lean on each other and a couple of good guys.

I have enjoyed this ride and if there are plans for the next installments, I am all in!

I didn't read the first book in this series, but this story stands well on its own. Thriller readers, get ready. By the time you hit the hallway point, you won't want to put this book down. There was a point where I thought, well, now we know that, what else can happen. Oh. So much! That was an enjoyable ride with great pacing.

I thought this was a really good follow-up to book 1. The beginning of the story hooked me immediately. Hannah, a 14 year old, is babysitting an infant, when intruders come in and she witnesses the murder of the parents of the baby. From there she is amazingly able to escape with the baby; however, she is young and scared and has no idea what to do.

Since this is book 2, there are characters from book 1, like Lily Baker, who is integral to the plot. Lily is the young woman who was kidnapped in book 1. She and Hannah have a brief encounter at the hospital when Hannah she takes the baby to leave her somewhere safe.

As the detective investigates the murders, there are some very mysterious clues and the twists that occurred are ones that I really wasn't expecting. I love it when things totally unexpected happen.

I'd like to thank NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for providing me an e-ARC in exchange for my opinion.

I was able to review Far Gone (Badlands Thriller Book 2) by Danielle Girard and Thomas & Mercer for providing me with an advanced ARC in exchange for an honest review.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ -- Enjoyed this one a lot!

First off, I haven't read the first book in this series and had no issues with this one. It holds up excellently as a standalone. 👍🏻 I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The writing was very good. The action was non-stop. It was full of twists and turns. The three separate storylines meshed well. The characters were well developed. And that ending...some of it I kind of guessed, but wow...SO twisted and shocking. 🙌🏻

The book is told in three perspectives: Hannah, Kylie, and Lily.

Hannah is a fourteen year old that is at the wrong place at the wrong time. She comes to the Garza’s house to babysit their baby, Tiffany, and witnesses the husband and wife murdered in their home. She is hiding so Hannah doesn’t see the killer’s face but feels that something about him is familiar. Hannah is also addicted to prescription drugs and comes to the babysitting gig high. Because she is afraid of the killer and isn’t thinking clearly, she drops the unharmed baby at the hospital and goes on the run.

Lily is the nurse that is on night duty and happens to be outside when Hannah drops the baby off. She becomes heavily involved due to events in her past.

Kylie is the only detective in this small North Dakota town of Hagen. She is trying to find out who killed the Garza family while also trying to find Hannah who is the only witness.

That was the Readers Digest version of the story because I don’t want to give anything away.

This book is an excellent mystery and thriller. The mystery part is well done in the fact that you get a sense of the investigation and the use of police techniques that help solve the crime. The thriller part with its numerous twists, turns and revelations kept me hooked.
This also had quite a bit of medical drama involved and I liked that way that was woven in.

This had such a great plot but I felt like the characters in the read really gave the story an extra layer of depth. From the good guys to the bad guys and all the secondary characters in between are well written and really make this a fantastic read.

This is a second book in a series but this story flows on its own without that feeling you have missed something.

I’ll warn you, this is a book that you’ll get to a certain point and won’t be able to put it down!!

This is the second installment in Danielle Girard’s Badlands series. There is enough backstory to help new readers to the series not feel lost, but starting with the first book, ‘White Out’, makes the reading experience so much better. The story is told through the alternating perspectives of the three main characters, Kylie, Lily and Hannah. This emphasizes each character’s unique voice and showcases each of their reactions to events as they unfold. The author does a very good job of ratcheting up the suspense to keep you riveted and keep you guessing. There are at times events that are pretty far fetched and coincidental, but it is fiction after all and reading fiction does require the reader to suspend belief at times. Does this detract from enjoyment of the story? Absolutely not! This is a fast paced book that will hold your attention from beginning to end.

Wow. So many gasp out loud no way thrills.
Hannah arrives at Nadine and Ben's house ready to babysit their infant daughter. As they are about to leave, a man kills them. Hannah hovers in the closet, struggling to stay quiet while the drugs in her system swirl in her blood.
Lily was abducted as a teenager - years later, those memories are returning. Hazy and dreamlike, Lily is just trying to cope. Her partner, Iver, is away caring for his mom. On her own, Lily struggles to manage her emotions as well working as an ER nurse.
Kylie arrives on scene - shocked by the gruesome scene. Who would kill such an unlikely target? Where is the baby? Where is Hannah?
Told in multiple narratives, the story moves quickly with many surprises.
I am a huge gan of this author - this book just reinforces.

Far Gone by Danielle Girard is the second book in the Badlands Thriller series. Detective Kylie Milliard is investigating a double murder, and this case ends up being related to a previous case involving Lily Baker. Lily's story is told in the first book in the series White Out. I enjoyed reading both of these books, but they both were a little far-fetched at times. I did appreciate the small-town family aspect of this story. Thanks to NetGalley for the free digital review copy. All opinions are my own.

4.5 stars.

Just devoured Danielle Girard's upcoming thriller, Far Gone. Another twisty thriller I really liked? Who am I?

14-year-old Hannah is scheduled to babysit for Ben and Nadine Garza on Friday night. She shows up to their house a bit high on oxycodone but hopes they won’t notice.

And then a man comes into the house. Hannah is able to hide in the closet and watches in horror as the man shoots both Ben and Nadine but mercifully leaves their infant daughter safe. But Hannah is afraid he’ll return, so she flees with the baby.

Detective Kylie Milliard lands the investigation into the Garza murders. When she finds blood on the scene not belonging to the victims, she knows this could be the break she needs. She is shocked, however, to find that the DNA in the blood drop is a familial match to Lily Baker, a local nurse, who was involved in a horrible crime years before.

As Kylie and her colleagues work to find the killer and Lily tries to deal with the return of traumatic memories, dark secrets are uncovered and shocking discoveries are made. Will anything be the same again?

Far Gone is the second book in Danielle Girard’s Badlands series (after White Out). I didn’t read the first book but boy, I’m hooked on Girard’s writing now. You could read this as a stand-alone because there was enough background into the past.

For someone who has been having a really tough time with thrillers lately, I thought this was great. There were lots of twists and turns, some of which I predicted and some which surprised me, but I loved the characters and the emotions the story evoked.

Suzy Approved Book Tours, NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer, and Danielle Girard provided me with a complimentary advance copy of the book in exchange for an unbiased review. Thanks for making it available!

A chilling police procedural story with an intense web of deception, Far Gone by Danielle Girard is a perfect sequel to White Out - another must-read! This book grabbed me from the very first page when the reader witnesses a heart-pounding, terrifying murder from a hiding spot. Told from 3 POVs, a well-rounded story is developed and easy to follow. Girard paints an intriguing web that, at first, I had no idea how it all would tie together. But towards the end, when it all comes together, it was mindblowing! Far Gone is the second book in the Badlands Thriller series. I highly recommend reading the first book in the series, White Out, before reading this one. There are multiple references to the first book that would only make sense if the reader has knowledge of the storyline from book one. I often find sequels to be dull and boring, but that's not the case here.

There is a generous amount of medical scenes and jargon, which I find fascinating.

Far Gone by Danielle Girard
.
The second book in the Badlands Thriller series. We return to Hagen, North Dakota where Kylie Milliard is still the only female detective. Lily Baker is still in town as a nurse in the ED of the hospital. She still occasionally has memories of her past return to her, and that ties into this book as well.
.
I liked this book better than White Out! I know that this series is being set up to either read them in order or as standalones, BUT, I feel like I gained so much more from having read them in order! I loved seeing both women again, and learning more about where they are now and something about each of their pasts!
.
The mystery sets up right away, with the crime being commited in chapter one. I was pulled in right away and fully invested it solving the crime alongside Kylie. I loved how Lily was tied into the story in this book.
.
5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This may seem a somewhat controversial 5 stars as not everyone wants to give detective thrillers high ratings, but I based my ratings off of the following:
I flew through the book.
When I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about it.
I enjoyed ever bit of it.
I can’t wait for the next one.

This is the second book in the Badlands Thriller series - I haven’t read the first, and while I was able to pick up pretty well who was who and what had previously happened to them from context, I think I was missing a lot of emotional depth for detective Kylie Milliard and ED nurse Lily Baker, who appear to have been the main characters of the first book. They’re joined here by Hannah Visser, a 14-year-old girl who arrived to her babysitting job high and hoping the clients wouldn’t notice - only to witness their brutal murder. Too frightened to go to the police, Hannah stole a car and fled the scene, and now Kylie must track her down… before the killer cleans up the only witness to his crimes.

I’m probably going to go back and read White Out, because I really liked both Kylie and Lily and I very much wanted to know more of Lily’s backstory. Lily herself doesn’t have clear memories of the time she spent as a prisoner of a brutal serial killer, and what happens in this book does clarify some of those events for her, as well as bring her into a family she didn’t know she had. Although Hannah seems at the beginning to be an entitled, troubled teen - taking drugs when she’s responsible for a baby definitely had me side-eyeing her - it eventually becomes clear that she’s trying her best and there are circumstances which have led her down dark paths, and by the end I was definitely rooting for her.

This is an excellent, intriguing thriller with some strong and fascinating female characters at the heart of it. Even without having read the first book, I’ll happily give it five stars, but I do think it’s probably best if you don’t launch into the series here.
