Pretty much all Mo Willems Elephant and Piggie present books are great and this is no exception. Wordplay and humor are what makes this book the perfect addition to the series. Definitely purchasing this one!
I am always excited for a new Elephant & Piggie Like Reading! title and this one most definitely did not disappoint. One day, down by the pond, Goat shows off to Frog that he is ON it -- it being a log. Frog responds by hopping on top of a rock so he can be ON it too. What follows is a humorous series of one-upmanship made all the better by cartoony illustrations. This book is sure to be a slam-dunk, Elephant & Piggie books always are, but it also benefits from being probably the only fun book to ever introduce prepositions to young readers.
"I'm On It!" is a humorous take on prepositions and adverbs that are important for beginning readers to master. Young readers will enjoy the witty dialogue and large, colourful illustrations. The text is large and easy to read. Children at my library (and I presume many other libraries across the country) are obsessed with Elephant & Piggie, so I believe "I'm On It" will be received with a similar enthusiasm.
I'm On It is a very cute book for young elementary school kids. It's in the vein of Elephant & Piggie, so if your youngster likes those books, they'll like this one. Elephant & Piggie make an appearance at the beginning and end of this book (kind of like introducing the book and then signing off) so fans will get to see their beloved friends as well.
The book I'm On It itself is a game between a goat and a frog. They take turns being on/beside/through/etc. things. The goat has a much easier time of this and the frog finds himself in funny positions and situations. The illustrations are cute and little ones will laugh out loud when the frog goes splash into the water. This is also a good book for even younger kids learning the difference between beside, under, over, etc. Overall, very cute and kids will likely enjoy it.
Another delightful entry in the Elephant and Piggie Like Reading series. While I was sad to see Elephant and Piggie end, I am so excited that their popularity has given the books in this series a platform and also let other brilliant authors and illustrators shine.
This Elephant & Piggie book did not disappoint. They are fun for children of all ages. My daughter loved looking at all the pictures and begged me to read it again and again (she is only 3). THank you Mo Willems for another great addition for a child's library.
They asked me to do a review, and I was immediately “on it”. I love how this book starts off, with Elephant and Piggy. Elephant (aka Gerald) is feeling a little lonely until Piggy comes along with Andrea’s new book; right on, right?
The story Elephant and Piggy are reading tells a tale of two animals, Goat and Frog. They start a fun competition of who can be on the most things. Goat starts off by showing what he can do, then Frog follows up. This repeats throughout the book, but what I love about it, is the author keeps the fun and suspense in what feels like a few pages.
I think you’ll love this new book, it’s easy for new readers, and is one of those books that you can read over and over again and not get sick of it. Who will be on top of it all? Can you guess?
P.S There’s also a little surprise toward the end which I think all readers will enjoy.
Wonderful and cute book about a goat and a frog who are “on it”. Then between, over, near and so much more! Love this one for teaching or reviewing prepositions or just good silly fun! #ImOnItElephantPiggieLikeReading #NetGalley
#ImOnItElephantPiggieLikeReading #NetGalley Thank you to NetGalley for the digital ARC to "I'm On It!" by Andrea Tsurumi and Mo Willems. The Elephant & Piggie Like Reading books are so engaging for emergent and experienced readers. This one is no exception! Piggie engages Gerald into conversation on the end pages, drawing the reader into the very book that is about to be read, with a smattering of adult humor into the prepositional language throughout this story, by stating, "Right On!" and "Far Out!"
Even better are the two friends, Goat and Frog who engage in an agreeable dare that turns into a dare-devil style of competition! Goat clearly is more balanced on, beside, inside, and under things than Frog as we witness Mo Willems' illustration of two, annoyed fish blowing water onto frog's face while goat is smiling between two sunflower plants he's holding.
We giggle throughout the balancing acts of the two friends who continue to demonstrate how they can be above , around, and through things. For instance, Frog positions his tongue through the threaded face of a tennis racket, telling Goat, "Yeth," meaning he is "through" it.
Goat cannot believe how much fun he is having while Frog increasingly becomes distressed and finally admits he is NOT into this game, showing it is okay to state your feelings. Understanding what has just transpired, Goat joins him and the two friends relax after a rigorous competition.
The obvious teaching points of the prepositions is a wonderful plus with this story, and one could engage the reader to act out a few, illustrate some new or write about a character engaging in some of their own. A perfect addition to any classroom, school, public library or home!
Just when I thought these couldn't get any better! This one reminded me of my "early reader" days in the 80's with silly stunts, rhyming, repetition, etc. I cannot wait to share this with my little readers! I hope Andrea writes more of these!
Whar’s not to love about Elephant and Piggie? And the new series Elephant and Piggie Love Reading is perfect. It explores many different theme. I also love goats and found this story quite fun as the goat and frog try to one-up each other. This would also be a great book for teaching prepositions.
Elephant and Piggie is hands down the best book series for children learning how to read. As with all of their books, cute silly stories and adorable illustrations. I recommend these books to anyone who has children learning to read!
This is another great book by Mo Willems. The pictures are engaging and the story is adorable! It has a great message about friendship and respect. It is also a fun way to teach prepositions, such as on, along, beside, around and under. I recommend this book for elementary age children. I think parents and teachers will love it as much as the children.
I received a complimentary copy of the book through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
This was another cute book about Elephant & Piggie reading books. I love inception books like this, where the characters read. This one did not disappoint!
I love this book. I've already showed it off to my teacher friends (especially in the speech/language department) as a fun way to teach about concept words (over, under between, along, etc.). I test drove it with an actual little reader today and we totally enjoyed it. Another hit from the Elephant and Piggie world. Also fun to find the pigeon flying overhead. I love books that are useful teaching tools and really enjoyable just as books. This one hits both those marks.
This silly story will have early readers giggling, while also teaching them prepositions. So sneaky! Goat and Frog get into a bit of a competition trying to see who can balance more objects on, around, and under them, but when Goat goes a little too far, Frog has enough. Sure to be read again and again.
Another hit from this series! As usual, the illustrations are funny and colorful and the story is entertaining. The message is simple and clear. It’s ok to say no when you don’t want to play anymore and always try to play fairly!
Fun Language Play and Whimsy
This fun picture book plays with language and even the concept of books themselves. The illustrations are simple but become more amusing as the book continues. We share Elephant and Piggie's experience of reading a book with a title the same as this one. In that story, Goat and Frog have a back-and-forth challenge revolving around prepositions: on, in, along, above, below, and more. They try simultaneously to be each newly added preposition: on something, above something, etc. This builds to ridiculous and humorous proportions, of course, but kids like that kind of silliness. At the end of the book, Elephant and Piggie themselves become a part of the book they are reading. What creative fun! This is an excellent way to make sure your child understands the prepositions in the book, and she or he might be inspired to make up a story in which they take a part. It certainly also encourages reading, too. A child with a sense of humor, a love of language, and who appreciates ridiculousness or whimsy will most likely enjoy all those aspects in this picture book.
This latest book in the Elephant & Piggie Like Reading series is a very fun look at prepositions as frog tries to keep up with goat. Highly recommended for beginning readers.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
