This is such a cute book. The illustrations do a wonderful job showing young readers what the words mean. I read this to my twin three year old boys and they not only laughed, but demonstrated several of the concepts with their hands as I read it. Then they asked me to read it again!
This fun book is appropriate for beginning readers. It is introduced by Elephant and Piggie (which causes author Mo Willems' name to be attached to the book), but the book itself is by a different author/illustrator, Andrea Tsurumi. In the book, Goat shows Frog their amazing stacking and preposition skills ("Look at me, Frog! I'm ON it!"), and Frog responds with like phrases and stacking of their own. (I've used non-binary language because neither Frog nor Goat are gender specific in this book.)
While this book follows the pattern of the Elephant and Piggie books (in which the characters repeat similar phrases), some of the words will be a little more complicated for beginning readers (inside, between, through). Young kids will enjoy the fun illustrations and story line, though!
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. My thanks to #NetGalley and the author and publisher! #ImOnItElephantPiggieLikeReading
A fun and playful easy-reader that covers concepts such as "over", "under", "beside", etc. It is also a heartwarming display of friendship. Goat and Frog find themselves playing a game that is a bit like the song, "Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better" until it gets a little over-the-top and out-of-hand. I enjoyed the humor; I will continue to seek out books in the Elephant & Piggie Like Reading series! Tsurumi is also an author-illustrator on my radar as I've enjoyed multiple books by her.
It is a cute book where goat leads and frog follows. This was a fun read and a great book to help aid the teaching of directional language.
This fun read is so delightful. Everything you want in a children's book is here. It teaches. Has a fun entertaining story. The pictures are awesome. When you finish and am asked to please read again by a 6 year old then you have a great read! Thanks #netgalley for allowing me to read it.
Fantastic!! I wish Mo would write more Elephant and Piggie books, but these "Elephant and Piggie Like Reading" are the next best thing! The art was fun and the story was great! Wonderful for my 5 year old to see and talk about positional words while having a blast reading together! And it's nice to see Elephant and Piggie again...even for just a few pages. Highly, highly recommended!
This is another hilarious and entertaining story that readers will gobble up. They may also learn something about prepositions along the way. I'm excited to have this to hand to my Elephant & Piggie fans.
Highly recommended.
Another great easy reader in the vein of Mo Willems' Elephant and Piggie books. I am endlessly impressed with the amount of story children's book authors can infuse in a limited vocabulary reader, and this one has the added benefit of humor and a focus on prepositions.
Dear Elephant and Piggie (and Mo),
My son and I enjoyed reading I'm On It! Thank you for sharing this great story about friends with us.
It's hard to think about anything else when you REALLY want to be on top. It's also hard when you feel like you have to keep up. This silly story is about two friends competing in a preposition filled funny game of follow the leader. The bright crisp illustrations and easy to follow dialogue make this ideal for children inKindergarten and young primary grades. It even comes with a stamp of approval from my 5 year old who got a real kick out if the fish and beavers expressions as Frog brought them into the game.
Thank you to Net Galley and Hyperion Books for Children for a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read and review.
I am always on the look out for hilarious, beginner level readers for my classroom. This one is just so much fun and is definitely perfect for any fans of Gerald and Piggie from Elephant and Piggie fame. I can't wait to use this for examples of prepositions, especially with my English Language Learners.
In this easy reading type book, Goat starts a game near the pond with his friend Frog. As frog tries to copy what goat is doing (on it, over it, under it, etc), frog quickly realizes that maybe the game isn’t as much fun as it was at the start. What will frog do?
When I saw that this book included Elephant and Piggie, I knew that my 7 year old son and I had to read it. The pictures are bright and colorful and and text is engaging and repetitious, which is perfect for a beginning reader. I love the use of prepositions throughout. I will definitely suggest this book to my local and school library.
New classic book here! Goat is all about showing his cool tricks. When frog gets envious and joins in, fun ensues. Bright and dynamic illustrations make this extremely engaging. Also a great way to emphasize, SEL, prepositions, and writing elements. Amazing!
How do you not love these books?! They are funny and this one helped kids understand spacial awareness words. Kiddo was giggling while I read it so that is a win
This book is super cute. It approaches a tricky subject for kids - prepositions - without making it heavy or "instructional". The story is fun and kids will not even realize they are learning while they are reading. Additionally, there is the hidden message that, if you're not enjoying something, it's ok to stop doing it - you don't have to continue to do something just because a friend is. Overall, this is a great book that I will be happy to get for my library.
I can't wait for this book to come out and for the pandemic to be over so we can read this to kids during class visits! I'm already picturing all the goofy things we have in storage that can be held and stacked, most likely with the help of some velcro. I like the illustrations, and it really has the funny friendly feel of an E&P book.
This is the best book for a classroom that is discussing where things are. Frog and goat are playing together throughout the day. They show all of the different ways you can be on something, under, near, and all the other words that children need to be learning. This would also be a good book for any child struggling to learn these words.
I'm On It! by Andrea Tsurumi is an addition to the beloved Elephant & Piggie book series. This is a simple easy book full of adorable illustrations that will draw young readers into the story. This is a wonderful book to help teach prepositions. It would be perfect to use as a read aloud and the illustrations are a fun way for students to visualize examples of prepositional phrases. This would also be excellent to use with students who have special needs. Prepositions can be very difficult for students and this would be a fun way to help teach and reinforce the concept. I will definitely be adding this book to my classroom library.
You can very seldom go wrong with the "Elephant & Piggie" endorsement, and this book proves no different. Goat is on the bank, and Frog is in the pond and both are trying to out-do each other with being on, over, under, and beside different things.
Great addition to a beginning reader collection, and it would be a solid recommendation to preschool and kindergarten teachers who are supporting instruction on positional words.
Thanks NetGalley for the early copy! My toddler loves the Elephant and Piggie books and this one did not disappoint! We laughed together and enjoyed every page!!
This book is absolutely delightful! Perfect for family storytime or a classroom. I could see children demonstrating their understanding of the different actions Frog and Goat go through. A real winner in all categories!!!
