Y'all! Are you looking for a fun book to read? Maybe the perfect book to take to the beach or on vacation? Well have I got a recommendation for you. Plot Twist by Bethany Turner is the best fun I've had in a while. I totally enjoyed this book.
The premise of the book is something different. I only wondered who would even make a pact with a stranger ten years down the road? But, these two did! They met on February 4 and agreed to meet in the same coffee house in ten years. He wanted to be an actor and she wanted to be a playwright for films. After they became successful they would partner up and make a film together.
Olivia is the main character whose best friends with Fiona. Liam is someone they both date at different times and they both love. I really liked these characters. Most of the story revolves around them and their escapades. Friendships grow and fade during different times in our life. What do we give up for our friendships? That's the big question we all have to answer at some point.
Although I'm retirement age, I still enjoyed the characters and could relate to them. The author did an awesome job on this book. You might want to preorder your copy today so it is in your inbox on release day! I know you're going to have as much fun as I did!
I received a copy of this book from #ThomasNelson/#Netgalley for a fair and honest review. Thank you!

Plot Twist is right! The story takes place on the same date over 10 years. At the end of each chapter, my mind was reeling over what had happened during that chapter's year!
Olivia is a screenwriter-she has a meet cute in a coffee shop with an aspiring actor. They decide that they will meet again 10 years later in the same place. Olivia will have written a screenplay for this unnamed actor and he will be happy to act in something written for him. What seems to start as a rom com really becomes more of a story about women's friendships. I did like Olivia but there were times when her decisions really frustrated me.
I think it's best I start this book with this. If you enjoyed reading [book: One Day in December] then you will enjoy this book but if you did not enjoy it then this book would just piss you off. Personally, I did not enjoy One Day in December by Josie Silver because it felt too long and I realize that the same happened with this book. It is filled with a whole bunch of cheating and emotional manipulation whilst we have readers are waiting for the much-highlighted plot twist.
In this book, we follow Olivia Ross who met a guy at a coffee shop and they basically got to know each other. The guy was going for an audition and she was at a low point in her life has her writing was not going as she planned. They agree to meet in the same place ten years down the line. Hoping that then she would have written a script and he would be taking on the leading role because he would also be famous at that time. So basically we see how she lives her life in that ten years. She seems to have figured out his name and his popularity as the years went on by but apparently, she got the wrong guy.
The whole thing was just confusing to me. Did she not see his face at the cafe? Maybe I missed it. Then there was her kissing her best friend's boyfriend. The whole thing was a hot mess.
When the 'Plot Twist' finally happened it was so anticlimatic. I thought they would get together but it was just nothing then the end.
I am giving it 3 stars because I loved the side characters they seem to have more depth than the main character. I love the friendship between Olivia and her best friend.
In this latest release, Ms. Turner delivers a romantic comedy with a definite plot twist. This book focuses on Olivia who is wanting to write a screenplay. One day she meets someone in a coffee house that she thinks has the potential to be “the one”. They agree to meet again in ten years. The book takes readers through each anniversary of when she met this man. Readers will be taken through the turbulent ride of Olivia’s life. You will have to finish the book to discover what might possibly occur at the end. I have always enjoyed Ms. Turner’s books and find them hilarious at various places throughout all of her books. Her books are very detailed and provide the reader with plenty of information to clearly understand what is occurring in the book. You will enjoy this book if you like rom-coms or just like to laugh. I highly recommend this book!
***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, this is my own opinion.
I enjoyed this romance story and all the slight twists and turns. My only issue was I didn’t love the main character and her growth was a bit stunted, but I did enjoy revisiting the same day throughout a 10 year period and how everything tied together.
Plot Twist is a charming, romantic story that earns its name! Each February 4 over the span of a decade brings a new plot twist to Olivia’s life, sometimes funny and sometimes tragic, culminating in an ending I never saw coming. I couldn't wait to see what happened next, but I also didn't want the story to end!
While this book is a romantic comedy, there are plenty of serious moments that deal with betrayal, friendship, lost love, and second chances. I couldn't help but root for the memorable characters, even when I found myself shaking my head at the missed communication and connections! The creative plot was brought to life with Bethany Turner's signature witty dialogue and pop culture references. Highly recommended for rom-com fans!

“But as he drove past, he shouted, “Regardless, we’ll always have Sri Lanka!”’
Utterly romantic with a number of rom-com and romantic movie references that I need to watch all over again. I adore Olivia. I love the way she thinks, acts, and dreams. She is just so real, I feel like she could be my best friend. Liam and Hamish are quite the contenders for her heart. Watching them all change was inspiring. This was a really fun plot all around, too.
“maybe there was something about feeling like you’d known someone your entire life that made you forget to ask their name.”
“Plot Twist” is a refreshingly sweet novel about life. It holds to all the insecurities we have that seem to hold us back from the dreams God has for us. Watching Olivia grow through this novel was entertaining, humorous, and revealing. I couldn’t put the book down and was on pins and needles over her and the mysterious actor she met at the beginning of the story. The romance drove me nuts with maybe, maybe not moments, but the ending had a plot twist of its own that had my heart swooning.
Absolutely delightful meet-cute and a must read for all those who love romances that keep you guessing. Sweet, funny, and amusingly awkward at times, “Plot Twist” was an heartwarming read. I had a hard time choosing between her leading men.
Who would you choose? Read it to find out!
I was given a copy of this book by the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own and are given honestly.
The Plot Twist has been billed as romantic comedy. I did not find any romance or comedy in the story line. I am not sure if the romance is meant to be a second chance, or slow burn, but its utterly lacking. The book starts out very promising. Olivia has a meet cute in a coffee shop. She is an aspiring screenwriter, and he is an aspiring actor. They pledge to meet up again in 10 years, no names or contact information is exchanged.
What the novel is actually about is Olivia's insecurities and inability to express her feelings to the supposed real love of her live. The rest of the novel is a check in on Olivia every Feb 4th (the anniversary of the meet-cute). We see Olivia's life and relationships with her best friend, her ex boyfriend, and her work over the span of these ten years. Olivia is a very frustrating character. I have a hard time believing her best friend and ex-bf would still around this long.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
I’ve really been digging the rom-com lately that center around an aspect of La/Hollywood, and Plot Twist perfectly fits the bill. Olivia is an aspiring screenwriter who spends her days creating greeting cards. While working in a coffeehouse one day - February 4th to be precise - she has a meet-cute with a charming Irish actor. Their meeting is cut short when he realizes he’s late to an audition but they make a pact to meet again at the same place on the same date in 10 years. She’ll bring the screenplay she’s going to write for him and he’ll be waiting with his armful of awards. Only after they part ways does she realize they didn’t exchange contact info or even same. So begins a decade of dramatic love life events that always seem to happen on February 4th each year with a rotating cast of friends, lovers, exes, and strangers.
I really enjoyed jumping year to year, landing on the same day exactly one year later and piecing together what has occurred since the previous year - almost like you’re catching up with an old friend. I felt like I connected with Olivia - first that she was a bit older (30) than we often see in these types of stories but that she was still trying to figure herself out at that stage or her life. I can certainly relate to feeling a bit unfulfilled with your chosen career and having a dream but not feeling secure enough to give up the stability you’ve grown reliant on to actually pursue it. Also, who among us hasn’t had a messy love life - second guessing ourselves and significant others, especially when you’re not feeling the most secure about yourself at the time either. But not being able to completely let them go because a big part of you knows you might have made a mistake. It’s the angst and back-and-forth between Liam and Olivia year to year that maintained the tension and keeps you reading to see how it ends up turning out after the decade is up.
Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the advanced copy in an exchange for my honest review.
I really wanted to love this book. The concept reminded me of Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey, which I LOVE. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
This book didn’t have as much romance or as many twisty moments as I had expected. The self-discovery of each character felt a bit repetitive after a few chapters which frustrated me. The main character seemed to have the same realization every chapter (aka every year on the same day).
Overall, I felt very ‘meh’ about this book.
Olivia, a screenwriter who makes bank by writing greeting cards, meets an attractive Irish actor in a cafe on February 4. Cute banter ensues during which they jokingly vow to meet again in 10 years-same place, same date-when they've both become wildly successful. We follow Olivia's life over those 10 February 4ths.
Let me begin by saying that those who have never read Bethany Turner before are likely to miss out on the way that her personality shines through in this book. If you follow Bethany on social media, you'll likely recognize the way that the fangirling that the main character does in Plot Twist mirrors Turner's own fangirling. Turner loves pop culture references, and they abound in this book. These are elements of the book that those who are familiar with her writing are likely to smile at. They're also elements that those who are unfamiliar may roll their eyes at. Because I've read Turner's previous books, I appreciated how clearly her voice shines through.
While Plot Twist was a fine book, there were some things that kept it from being above average for me. Because we only see what's happening on one date of each of the 10 years, I didn't feel much connection to the characters. It's hard to convey an entire 365 days of life in the happenings of one day.
The other thing that kept this one from a 4 or 5 star was the resolution. I was confused by the events of the final February 4th for a while, and felt like the ending was dissatisfying in comparison to what led up to it.
When reading Plot Twist, keep in mind that there's a difference between romance and rom-com. If you go into a rom-com expecting pure realistic romance, you're reading the wrong genre. The unlikely events are where the "com" comes into the story. Be prepared to suspend belief and enjoy the comedy. If you're expecting a faith element in the story because it's published by Thomas Nelson, it's not there. If you just want a clean rom-com and won't miss the faith element, this one fits the bill.
Thanks go to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Plot twist is a super cute rom-com. Olivia has a day where she meets a stranger in a coffee shop and they make a pact to meet up in 10 years. Will Olivia right the screen play and win the actor ? We get to follow Olivia through 10 years of February 4th. Perfect summer read!
A really great lighthearted feel-good read! This is a contemporary rom com which ticks all the boxes for me. I loved the hero, and even though the heroine got a bit annoying at times, she still managed to stay loveable towards the end. A nice read for the summer
Just when I think Bethany Turner can't make me laugh out loud more or have anymore pop culture in a book she writes a new book, and Plot Twist has all of that and more!
I'm a HUGE and I mean HUGE Robert Redford fan and every mention of him in the book or reference to a movie he was in . . . The Way We Were; I was rolling!
Ms. Turner has a way of creating a rom-com that is filled with great characters, a fun storyline, and so many tropes going on within the story it drives you a little crazy, but that is honestly what makes it so much fun!
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book via the publisher. I was not required to write a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book sounded liked everything a person could want in a rom-com a meet-cute that should span over 10 years. Honestly though that's not even what happened. I recommend the summary get changed for this book because it is slightly misleading. I really didn't like the main character and I definitely did not like the main love interest. I don't not recommend this book it just wasn't for me. My main issues is that I've read other books with this similar theme where they meet each year and they were done better. I'll have to try another Bethany Turner to decide if maybe I just don't like her writing.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me an arc for an honest review.
Unfortunately, I DNFed this book very early on. I found the main character very immature and annoying. Although this book was not for me, I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who would enjoy it.
Lately, for some reason, I have trouble getting contemporary fiction and women’s fiction. So imagine my surprise when I literally devoured this book. Plot Twist starts with the main character, Olivia Ross, a struggling screenwriter, and an unknown actor meeting in a café and striking up a friendship. The pair make a pact: in ten years’ time, Olivia will finish her script and the actor will act as the main lead. Sounds a little odd for two strangers to make a pact with each other, but let’s go with it. The biggest crux in this plan? Olivia didn’t get the actor’s name. The bulk of the story revolves around Olivia and her life experiences over the course of ten years. Olivia is a flawed and frustrating character that reminds me a little about myself. We are both stubborn and averse to change. The overall progression of the story was fluid and the conclusion was satisfactory. Overall, I thought this was a solid 4 stars.
This was a sweet, quick read with lots of humorous moments to recommend it. I wasn’t a huge fan, though, as so much of the plot just stretched the bounds of what I could believe. The agreement to meet in 10 years (that is a LONG time), the way the main character just kept crashing into the same walls over and over again without learning or growing, the way she treated her boyfriend…it became kind of tedious. I hoped for more of a character arc. As an aside I was surprised that a book published by Thomas Nelson utterly lacked a faith component, I read mostly mainstream fiction, so this wasn’t a problem for me, but other readers who come to this publisher looking for this aspect may be disappointed. (The funny thing is that a faith sub-plot might have provided much-needed character development to fill out this book.). All said, this is a lightweight read worth considering for your summer TBR pile. .

Olivia Ross moved to Los Angeles with dreams of being a screenwriter. In the meantime, her job writing greeting cards at Heartline pays the bills. On February 4, 2003, Olivia is at her favorite coffee shop, working on her screenplay. There, she connects with an aspiring actor, and they make a pact. In 10 years, once they have found success in their fields, they will meet back at that coffee shop and to partner up and make a film together. The only problem? She forgot to get the actor's name. <i>Plot Twist</i> follows Olivia through February 4th over the next 10 years. The day each year is filled with coincidences and ironies.
I loved this book (staying up late to finish it!) and the fact that we checked in on Olivia on the same date every year, learning what had happened in the past year of her life and seeing what crazy things would happen that February 4th. The story does require some suspension of disbelief, especially because her best friend Fiona's life is amazing. After reading this book, I definitely want to check out more by Bethany Turner!
Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me an ARC of this book.

This book is a refreshing take on the romance genre with plenty of twists and turns that keep the reader guessing right until the last page. It has a cast of memorable characters with some sweet moments. This book kept me reading non stop until I finished it as it was so good.
