This one put my heart through the ringer and I loved every second of it! Full of unrequited love, an “ironic” date that fate keeps twisting, and a friendship as epic as true love, this is one romance packed with angst and lots of perfectly timed meetings. It’s a second chance at love, over and over again, with a “plot twist” you won’t see coming!

Olivia has a small encounter with an actor, promising to meet again in ten years on February 4th. Ironically, every year on February 4th Olivia encounters situations that draw her toward certain people and situations. Olivia doesn’t take chances, but one day fate will show her that life isn’t accidental and some things are meant to be.

I feel like a lot of other people won’t love this book as much as I did, but I couldn’t get enough of the serenpitidousness of it all. It’s about so much more than fate and romance. The themes of friendship and loyalty are the center of this emotional story and, most of all, it’s a book about heartache and self-acceptance. A book that gave me all the feels!

Plot Twist is a charming romcom spanning 10 years of the same day, February 4 - Ironic Day as it comes to be called by the main character Olivia. Livi is a 30-something aspiring screenwriter who writes greeting cards to barely pay the bills. On our first Feb 4, she meets a sexy Irish aspiring actor (at least she thinks he's maybe, probably Irish) in a cafe and through their quippy exchange they make a pact to meet 10 years time, when Livi has finished her screenplay and sexy Irish guy has an armful of Oscars. Each February 4 unlocks a series of coincidences that guide us through the twists and turns of Livi's life. Over 10 years Livi faces challenges in love, career, and family that test her relationships and her resolve to finish her screenplay. She spends many a February 4th almost literally chasing down sexy Irish guy (who turns out to be a very famous actually Scottish actor), or Liam (the maybe love of her life), or her jerky ex, and even George Clooney. There are many cute, even heartfelt moments in Plot Twist, and ultimately it is an enjoyable read. However, if I were to have one criticism, I'm not entirely convinced of the Livi's personal growth over 10 years. The book reads more like someone aging from early twenties to thirties. By the end of the book, Olivia is 40 but, to me, she reads much younger. None the less, much like a beloved romcom movie, Plot Twist requires us to suspend disbelief and just enjoy the story as it unfolds. No matter how unlikely. And, for the most part, I was able to do that and found it delightful.

Meet-cute is the theme of this story...but the romance might surprise you. I was super intrigued with this story and found the entire premise very interesting. I've never read a book where the story basically takes place on the same date over a decade. The romance was sweet and will be relatable for some. The whole "feelings for your best friend and then trying to decide what you really want" thing. Not an easy plot line to pull off, but I felt that Bethany Turner did a good job. The ending was by far my favorite part! I don't want to give anything away, but trust me...the end is super fun! Overall, an enjoyable read.

3.5 stars

Plot Twist follows aspiring screenwriter Olivia Ross on ten successive February 4ths after she has a life-changing encounter with an actor in a coffee shop. This structure and concept are certainly unique with each chapter offering a tiny glimpse into the ways that life manages to both change and stay the same.

For the most part, I enjoyed Plot Twist. Catching Olivia and the people that surrounded her at these specific moments in time felt very sweeping and romantic...until it didn't. As the book came to a close, what started out as a great storytelling device began to become a hindrance. Because we never got to see the other 364 days of each year, I felt that the conclusion of Olivia's arc managed to be rushed in terms of taking place in only a few pages and not developed enough in terms of the time established in the book. I was a little disappointed with the ending because of this. However, the issues that I had with execution in the latter part of the book didn't completely overshadow how much I enjoyed the first two thirds of it. As a result, I'm giving it a solid 3.5 stars.

Did I enjoy it? Yes, I did. Super creative and fun story, Plot in this "Plot Twist" is just as twisty. Humour, omg give me a guy and his dad jokes, and pun and I'm here for it. However, I just couldn't with MC or her best friends. The entire dynamic felt a little toxic to me, so I couldn't get as invested in this love plotline... While I did enjoy it, it just felt like it dragged a lot and I want a big fan of relationships in it. This had the potential to be amazing, and it was just OK.

I personally felt like this Rom com was like a nice warm tea. I read it slowly rather than all at once and really appreciated the unique plot additions.
This was a cute “chance meet” “fated” contemporary romance where things just might not be what you expect and everything is just a little “ironic”.
It’s light on the steam level but still has a lot of good chemistry.

This novel takes place over 10 years and each chapter is one day. The main character meets a mysterious man at a coffee shop and they make a promise to meet in 10 years to see how their careers have gone. This book is lighthearted and fun.

This was a bit of a groundhog day novel by meeting up on the same day every year although things did change over time. It was a good book but it didn't really grab my attention as it should. I am sure plenty of people will really enjoy reading this' just because I didn't get on with it it doesn't mean that others will think the same thing.

I loved the plot of this book. A chance run-in leads to pact of meeting up again in a decade. As we are taken on the adventure with the main character we get to see how each year she changes and grows. In the end, I feel bad she wasted so much time but it truly shows how as individuals we are always changing and growing.

This is a difficult review to write. One the one hand, the story kept me riveted to the pages as I wanted to find out what happened each year on February 4. One the other hand, I felt myself feeling more and more depressed as I read each chapter. This book just emotionally did me in. My heart hurt for one main character and I felt intense frustration for the other main character. I knew it would probably end well, as all romantic comedies should, yet I couldn’t get past the heartache and lost time together.

This book did have plenty of lighthearted moments and fun references, which helped cement which year events were occurring in. It was also fun to have a tie in with Hollywood through Olivia’s audacious roommate. In the end, I was happy with how things finally worked out, yet I still had that sense of overall sadness for what seemed to me wasted years.

I have enjoyed two other books by this author and thought that they were both so very good, so I do plan to read more of this author’s work. Some books and readers are just not the right match, and I think that is what happened with Plot Twist. This clean fiction story, while very similar in feeling to the movie, When Harry Met Sally, ended up not being a good fit for me.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This is a fun rom com story with lots fun of pop culture references. I liked the unique set-up of the story because the book takes place over a decade. The reader along with the main character, Olivia, lives the day of February 4th each year in that time span. I thought that was an interesting concept as I have never read a book like that. Obviously, there is lots of romance happening but I really appreciated watching the friendship between Olivia and Fiona go through ups and downs throughout the years. The suspense lover in me did appreciate the twist at the end that I did not see coming. Even though each chapter was only one day, the story did seem a bit drawn out to me at times.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for a copy of the book. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

This is a warm, funny story about the different types of love we experience and what happens when they conflict with each other.

The premise is unique and made the storyline fun to follow. We see the characters once a year, on the same day, for ten years. I liked this because it moved the story forward quickly and the author didn't get caught up chronicling the little things that happened in their lives. It also made the emotional rollercoaster more intense than a typical romance novel.

Yes, this is ultimately a romance novel. But it's really so much more. The core relationship is between Olivia and her lifelong best friend Fiona. At one point Olivia even says the two are the great loves of each others lives. I had a hard time with some of the choices Olivia made, causing suffering for herself and others, in the name of her love for Fiona. I'm not sure if I find them believable but it made for a good story!

The writing is witty and the characters are well developed. The city of Los Angeles is almost a character itself, and there are even a few celebrities thrown in that made for some hilarious scenes.

I highly recommend this one for readers of romance, and I'm going to seek out more by this author.

Olivia Ross writes greeting cards by day and dreams of finishing her screen play at night. Attempting to work at a neighborhood coffeehouse, she meets an aspiring actor heading to an audition. As he rushes off, they agree to meet at the same place 10 years later, he with an armload of Oscars, she with a finished screenplay that he will produce and star in. Olivia realizes as he drives away she never got his name. Every year for the next nine, something dramatic happens in her life causing her to dread the day, but what will happen year ten?

Plot Twist is a yummy rom-com with a steamy love triangle at the center. At times, it was unrealistic in the mature response and behaviors of this triangle, but I was entertained all the way and didn’t notice that until I started thinking about my review. Fans of One Day in December will love this story!

Plot Twist is a delicious romp through ten years with, yes, a brilliant plot twist at the end. Fantastic, actually. After a chance (and hilarious) encounter between a budding playwright and an aspiring actor, the two decide to meet on the same spot in ten years-time. Their theory is that by then, he’ll be a huge star and can star in the movie she will have finished writing.

The book then checks in with Olivia each year as coincidence (or fate) strike her as she dreams and plans her screenplay, convinced the man she met is, in fact now, a huge Hollywood star. We watch as Olivia loses possibly the love of her life, and then realizes her error after he builds a life with her best friend.

As ever with a Bethany Turner book, the pages are littered with emotional truth meets comedy, meets glorious pop culture references. And we end up a decade later with fate delivering an amazing outcome, two happy endings and an almighty satisfying plot twist.

I’ve read a couple of reviews where people struggled with this book. And yes, if you don’t enjoy a novel concept, personal angst peppered with humor, and eighties references, wielded like a weapon of genius timing, then this probably isn’t for you. However, if you love to suspend reality for a while and escape into another time, then this book is a complete winner.

I adored this book! I have to admit when I read the blurb about this book, I didn't know what to expect. But I was pleasantly surprised. It was funny, heartfelt, entertaining and packed with surprises and twists. Just when I thought I knew the direction the story was going, something totally unexpected happen. I really loved the unexpected love story, which was so charming and beautiful.

In addition to all of the surprises and twists, I really loved Olivia and Fiona's friendship. That was probably one of my favorite parts of the book. Also, the concept of following Olivia on this one day ever year was pure genius. I loved tracking Olivia's journey year after year and watching her change/grow over a decade was really satisfying.

If you're looking for a fun romance with an unique twist, I highly recommend this book. Special thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc of this book!

Plot Twist is a just released RomCom by Bethany Turner. I really liked the premise of this story where our leading lady, Olivia (Who absolutely would never describe herself this way!) and “Sexy Irish Guy” have a meet-cute and promise to meet in the same coffee shop, on the same date, in ten years. I liked that each new chapter was another February 4th, full of random coincidences. I loved the beginning and the ending, but the middle of the story started to feel like it was being dragged out and Olivia’s self deprecating personality was starting to wear on me. I really liked Liam, and honestly felt so bad about the way Olivia treated him throughout the story. The plot twist for “Sexy Irish Guy” was anticlimactic for me but, it ultimately did give me the happy ending I wanted!

3.5 stars = Good+

For me, the first and last chapters had a completely different tone than the middle ones. I adored the tone and humor of those first and last chapters. The ones in the middle were not as fun. I was drawn into the characters and the story, and I wanted to stick with it to see how things ended. But I didn't love the characters, sadly. And I would have preferred the whole book had been like the beginning and the fantastic ending. Also, for this being published by Thomas Nelson, I was surprised there was no faith component to this at all.

The set up for this is intriguing, and I liked that the chapters were set one year forward from the last one - it's a fun structure and the author does a great job of filling in what's happened in the last year without the reader feeling like it's an info dump. This is well-written and well-executed. The final chapter was so fantastic, it redeemed a lot of the bits that didn't click for me.

It's a joy when authors share their true selves with readers, and I feel we could be friends in real life. This absolutely describes Bethany Turner:
- she's hilarious and can bring relevant pop culture references to any conversation
- she's resilient, 'celebrating' 1-star and 2-star reviews for her novels
- she's an open book, communicating with readers via text with her personal phone number!

Bethany's gifts shine through Plot Twist and her three previous novels. In a genre (Christian fiction) that’s typically disregarded by pop culture, it's a pleasure (and a little ironic 😉) to read a rom com brimming with movie, TV, and music pop culture references.

On February 4, 2003, a seemingly ordinary day, Olivia Ross has a chance encounter with a handsome actor in a California coffee shop while attempting to write her first screenplay. At the end of their brief time together, the pair agrees to meet at the same place ten years later so the actor can star in her movie. One problem - they fail to exchange names or contact info. Readers then check in with Olivia on February 4 for the next 10 years as she experiences love, heartbreak, writer's block and much more.

I really enjoyed this structure to learn all that happened to the main characters in the previous 12 months. A trope that usually annoys me is central to this plot, but it worked since the dialog is so well crafted. The story has plenty of emotions but no 'intimate' scenes so it's safe to recommend to a teen niece, mother-in-law, etc.

Thank you to Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for the review copy; all opinions are my own.

5 stars
This book follows the journey of Olivia, an aspiring screenwriter, trying to find her purpose and the love of her life. February 4th will forever be a day that life changing events will take place!
The premise of this book is what first drew me to it. I loved the characters, writing, and setting. Olivia was a well developed character and went through a lot of transformations during her ten year journey of writing her screenplay. At times, I did not always agree with her choices because she made them due to a lack of information/communication. Her desire to sacrifice her one true love was noble and all, but it did not turn out the way she thought and I felt she just wasted so much time and heartache over an unnecessary sacrifice. I really liked Liam. He was such a sweetheart and I just wanted him to find love from a woman that deserved him. Fiona was an amazing best friend. I loved the friendship between Oliva and Fiona. They were able to remain friends throughout the highs and lows life presented them. The writing and pacing of the story kept me mostly interested until the very end. There were parts of the story that seemed to drag out a little too long, but overall the events flowed well. The ending definitely fits the title of the book. I did not see that ending coming and was well satisfied how everything was wrapped up. If you are a fan of writers and finding the love of your life, this book is for you! I can't wait to read the next new release by this author!
