This is a really cute fun book. It's the prefect light read. I've never read a book like this one. Each chapter is a different year same date. It was a sweet romance that was a joy to read. Thank you Thomas Nelson--FICTION via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Olivia Ross is a greeting card writer who dreams of becoming a screenplay writer. On a fateful day in 2003, she meets a handsome actor and together they make a pact. In ten years, they'll return to the same coffee shop and she'll have a screenplay written that he'll star in. But, the actor leaves too soon and they forget to exchange names. Olivia spends the next ten years trying desperately to write her screenplay all the while falling in and out of love and thinking of the coffee shop man. But Olivia is too focused on the words on a screen and a life that she could have ten years from now that she starts to miss the "now."
I was a little disappointed with this one. I was hoping it would pick up for me as the story went on, but it never really did. My main issue with the story was our heroine, Olivia. I found her to be so unlikeable and rude to the people around her--especially Liam and Fiona, her closest friends. It seemed as if she wanted the perfect screenplay to fall into her lap and could never see the bright side of things. I liked how the story was told over the course of ten years on the same day Olivia met her coffee shop man. It was a great vehicle to show the growth over time and how everyone's life had changed. There were definitely some cute and heartbreaking moments with Liam, Olivia, and Fiona, but it was really difficult for me to connect with Olivia's feelings since she felt so closed off to them, too. Although this book wasn't for me, I would recommend it to film buffs and those who prefer women's fiction to romance!

DNF this book at 60% I wanted to finish it but it was so painful. This book was not for me. I didn’t like the main character or the time jumping in this book. Just didn’t feel that romantic. This book is not for me.
I liked the way this book was written. Olivia (liv) was a writer of greeting cards for Heartlife. At the beginning of each chapter there would be one of her greeting cards which I found very entertaining and heartfelt. She was also working on a screenplay. While sitting in a coffee shop on February 4th 2003 working on the said screenplay she has an encounter with an actor. He wants to become famous as does she. They decide to meet in 10 years to see who is more famous. They do not exchange names since he is in a rush to make an audition. Liv never forgets the guys face or the date. The next chapter and every chapter after that takes place on February 4th for the next ten years. Something always happens in Liv's life on that day. The writer incorporates Liv's life with her best friend and room mate Fiona and her relationship with Liam. It was a fun book to read and the ending has a twist that was the best. I fell in love with the characters and kept rooting for Olivia and her screenplay which she finally did finish! I highly recommend this book that is being released on June 15, 2021.
Thanks to #ThomasNelson, #Netgalley and @seebethanywrite for an ARC of this delightful read.
When Olivia meets a strange man in a cafe and they agree to meet again in 10 years, she has no idea of the strange and sometimes ironic things that would happen on the anniversary of that date.
It was interesting to see what would happen on ironic day and so I kept reading, but it was hard to get invested in characters you only saw once a year. Reading Plot Twist was like spending time with a friend you only saw once a year and then had to cram a lot of experiences into a single day.
Olivia had this belief that she was a secondary character instead of a leading lady in her own life, but it wasn't until about year seven that we got a glimpse into why she felt that way. It was frustrating to watch everyone around her enjoying these fairytale lives while she was having this crummy existence.
Personally, I think she would have done well with some time away from everyone where she made a determined effort to figure out who she was apart from her family and friends. Maybe if she had, she'd have figured out who she wanted to spend the rest of her life with before things got complicated beyond measure.
That being said, I was surprised when I got to year ten...some of the things that happened I did not anticipate. I'm glad Olivia got her happily-ever-after but I did not connect with her or any of the characters. I think 10 years was just too long to watch this kind of thing play out and some of the things that happened were unbelievable.
Plot Twist is a romantic comedy that's perfect for people who watch a lot of movies (especially rom-coms). I received an advanced reader's copy from the publishers through NetGalley; a positive review was not required.

I am giving this book a 2.5/5 , there was some great parts but there was also just some major issues I could not move past and had a hard time finding the desire to finish this book.
The Good:
The beginning grabs you right away, this is a great premise for a story.
The layout and writing style was unique, spanning a year each chapter over a course of ten years, I think this worked well and I’d like to see this done again.
Lots of light hearted laughs and humour throughout.
The Bad:
Being in my mid thirties and our MC being 30 I just could not relate to her, she felt very immature and I didn’t feel like her maturity got any better.
The plot was a mess there wasn’t a really clear story line and I felt for a book spanning ten years, the character development and plot needed some editing and tidying up.
The ending. I don’t want to give it away but it was a major let down.
Unfortunately it was a miss for me but I think people who work in the movie/tv industry may find more to relate to here.
When Plot Twist opens, we meet Olivia, a writer for a greeting card company (think Hallmark), sitting in a cafe. Her greatest dream? To write a bestselling screenplay. While she struggles to write, she meets a man with an Irish accent who helps her thwart the unwanted advances of another. They begin to talk and laugh, and before he has to head off for an audition (yup, he’s an actor), they make a pact to meet on that day, in that cafe, 10 years in the future.
The problem? Olivia never got the guy’s name.
When I first read the synopsis for Plot Twist, I wasn’t sure how Bethany Turner was going to place 10 years of events in one novel. Sure, it’s been done before, but not like this (at least nothing I’ve read). What I wanted to know was how she would write about a specific day in a year for ten years. I was intrigued, and I have to say, Turner did an amazing job with it. Not only did she need to know what was going to happen on that day, she had to give the reader some information about what had happened in between without it being too much. She found the perfect balance.
I loved watching the story unfold year after year, with Olivia’s “discovery” of who her “sexy Irish guy” was, and the close calls that came on that specific day. What I loved more, was the relationship between her and her boyfriend-turned-best-friend Liam. Olivia struggled with who she was and had a hard time accepting that she could be the leading lady in any relationship. Because of this, she let opportunities for love slip through her fingers. Still, Liam held a special place in her heart, and he was a big part of the story.
Olivia also compared herself to Fiona, her life-long friend and roommate who had no problem being the leading lady in anything she did, and that led to some interesting circumstances.
Bethany Turner has to be one of my favorite (if not favorite) rom-com writers. She knows how to combine the hilarious with the serious, and she doesn’t shy away from perfect teaching moments.
As I read, I began rooting for Olivia to make a specific choice, but then I wasn’t sure if it was the right choice. Still, I held tight to my wish and, thankfully, it came to fruition in the most perfect way.
Read it. Laugh. Let your heartbreak and then mend.
And then let that crazy plot twist surprise you.
I received a copy of Plot Twist thanks to Thomas Nelson and Netgalley.
Love the concept and trope. Would recommend to others that love romcoms and chick flicks - would read more.
This was the perfect palate cleanser from some of the deeper, thought provoking novels I’ve invested my time in recently. Just as the title says, there are definitely some plot twists along the way. Those kept me turning the pages to find out what happened with, not just the main character, but all of the characters. Even though it was a lighter read, for me I was completely invested in their lives. Add this one to your beach bag this summer!
PLOT TWIST - BETHANY TURNER
I give this one 3.5⭐
PLOT - Olivia is an aspiring screenwriter. One day on Feb 4th she meets a struggling actor at a cafe and they make a pact to meet at same place, same date 10 years later where he will star in her movie. A lot happens in these 10yrs , many chance encounters and these days are all filled with ironies!!
Can Olivia find and write her own happy ending along the way?
MY THOUGHTS -
PROS - The writing is great - it makes you want to continue reading to see where the story goes.
The plot twist in the end was totally unexpected for me!
There were some really great moments too esp the meet cute!
CONS - I didn't like the MCs esp Olivia. The story starts when she turns 30 and spans for a decade. She is struggling, confused and lost!
I can understand if her age would have been in early 20s but by 30s you do get a sense of yourself and your bearings.
More than the romance it was the friendship between Olivia and her bestie Fiona which was the highlight for me here!
So if u are a fan of woman's fiction and a hapless woman trying to find herself this one will be a good read.
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange of my honest unbiased opinion.
This reminded me of a light, rom-com version of One Day. I can see this one being very popular for summer beach reads and book clubs. It's a quick read and was enjoyable, even if I didn't find most of the characters particularly likeable. I really appreciated how the main character was a woman between ages 30 and 40 who was not constantly lamenting her narrowing window for childbirth.
Thanks to the publisher and to NetGalley for an advance copy to review. All opinions are my own.
If you enjoy a light and sweet romance, I recommend checking out this book. It has such a wonderful friendship component, and also I hopeful in the romance department with the meet-cute trope.
Olivia isn’t my favorite character, but I think she worked for the story. If you’re a fan of rom cons this is worth a read!
This was a really fun book, and I thought it was perfect for a summer read! I like the format of the book, it checks in with the characters every year and lets you know what has happened since the last year. I haven't read many books like that. I would love books also from Fiona and Liam's perspectives to build off of Liv's experiences. I was entertained and really enjoyed the book.
Thank you Netgalley and Thomas Nelson for the ARC of this book!!!
The author explored love and the hope for love both because of fate and adversity and considering the way life never fulfills our expectations. A touching, light-hearted romance. Many times, it moved me to tears. They are truly memorable characters and unforgettable story. Surprises and sweet twists abound in this novel. LIv, the main character, is a screenwriter, so the story intrigued me.
Overall I really liked the plot of this book. The idea of looking at one date over the course of ten years is different and intriguing. But I felt like this book fell flat for me in its execution. I didn't feel like Olivia was a terribly likable character from the beginning and then as I tried to get to know her throughout the book it was hard to see her growth and character development because each time the story jumped I spent more time trying to orient myself into where are they now, what has changed over the last year, etc., instead of getting to really latch onto these characters.
The time jumping and changing so much from year to year made it really hard, I thought for the reader to truly become connected to any one of the characters or become invested in the story. It was also hard to really root for a certain love connection because you were never sure which love connection you were supposed to root for. Things changed so frequently I almost felt whiplashed by the frequent changes.
I felt the change in time from year to year might have been more effective if there had been one constant through all the years to help the reader stay grounded in the story and connected to the characters.
Overall, I did like the way Fi and Olivia and even Liam grew over the course of the ten years and I was pleasantly surprised at the ending. In fact, I loved the ending so much it made me wish that the time jump sections had been done just a little differently to help me connect to the characters more leading up to it. This is the first book I have read by Bethany Turner but I would definitely be interested to read more of her work.

This was a unique, witty rom-com! I truly laughed out loud multiple times, as the writing is so witty. The plot was unique and had such an interesting plot twist. I found this book to be fun and fresh, and enjoyed my time with it. The characters were charming and I was invested in their story. Overall, an enjoyable read! 3.5 stars.
Blech - this is not a book written for me. The main character lies to herself, is somewhat lazy and is a BAD FRIEND. We follow Olivia along for 10 years - and yes, she does grow, but a woman in her 30s shouldn't be this way. Who cares that she met a handsome actor.
Ugh, i should know better but I wanted a light hearted read.
I’ll start this review by saying I saw, but didn’t read, negative reviews for this book before I began reading. I have read one other book by Bethany Turner (Hadley Beckett’s Next Dish) and enjoyed it, so I decided to begin reading Plot Twist with an open mind. Despite trying my very best to like this book, I just could not find much to appreciate about it.
I expected something completely different from the story based on the blurb—I’m someone who enjoys getting a bit of direction from a blurb, not spoilers—but Plot Twist veered so far from the expectations set by the blurb that I couldn’t enjoy the actual story. Olivia seems incredibly immature for her age—I wish the book had started when she was twenty four or twenty five instead of thirty—and her point of view grew very tiresome. I just couldn’t figure out what Liam saw in her. There was one time I actually threw my phone down, I got so frustrated. There were parts of the book I liked, and I was so excited after the first chapter because I thought all the reviews I’d seen were wrong, but I just couldn’t get past the things I didn’t like to truly enjoy the story. Unfortunately, I just felt like I wasted my time.
I absolutely hate writing negative reviews. Especially when it’s an author whose work I have previously enjoyed. Sadly, Plot Twist just missed the mark for me. 1.5/5 stars

I went on a real roller coaster in this book and like any good ride, there were parts that I enjoyed and others that I prefer to forget.
There are some fantastic features here. The meet cute is memorable and charming, and this is essential because aspects of it come up often. Readers follow the characters over many years, which provides opportunities to see their growth (okay, they don't all grow - more on this soon) and chart their relationships. It's also a pleasant surprise that despite the cover, which to me screams "ROMANCE!" the featured relationship here is between two friends: Olivia, the m.c., and her best bud, Fiona. These components make for an engaging read and some surprising moments.
Some of what I enjoyed most also became what I struggled with as the novel progressed. Readers come back to the same month and day but in subsequent years. This is a great structural element, but I found myself getting frustrated with how little certain characters grew, learned, or changed, not just over a year but over several. I was hoping for _Russian Doll_ in this area and just got...another February 4. While Olivia is openly flawed from the start, she never really becomes a character I am rooting for, and that is tough in this genre and in her role. The central love story (I'll keep this vague to remain spoiler-free) is hard to believe because it seems so passionless and unhealthy. Most people have those relationships, but do both parties return and return and return? And at this age? It was tough to match the emotions and the behaviors from my reading. Oh, and last but not least, I'm not sure how much of a "Twist" there is. If you name it, you must deliver it. I wanted more on this front.
Fans of women's fiction with a hint of romance will - overall - find this a quick and mostly entertaining read. They may also find themselves frustrated by various elements of the central friendship and the oddly nouveaux riche way these characters talk about labels and celebrities. This one was clearly not my top pick, but I am looking forward to reading more from Turner.
This book was extremely creative & entertaining. I loved seeing what February 4 brought Olivia each year. The surprises were always fantastic. I highly recommend reading this book, especially if you're a fan of romcoms. Such a fun twist with this one.
