Endearing, like everything Bethany Turner writes. And, most importantly, hopeful! Though this is a book, it read like watching your favorite movie. But, considering this is Turner's book, it's unsurprising.

This romcom definitely had a lot of plot twists; nevertheless, the ending was predictable.

In the beginning it was very funny and I loved the build up but the middle was a VERY slow burn.

I liked the deeper meaning of self-actualization regardless of relationship status and I really liked the sweet ending. The book is compared to Sleepless in Seattle in the actual book and while I can see that it felt a lot more like When Harry Met Sally to me and I’m not a huge fan of the movie to be honest (I know I’m sorry 😏) simply because it’s snapshots of the characters’ lives over a long span of time so you never feel very intimate with them despite having all the connection.

So if you love When Harry Met Sally you’ll love this book. If you thought it was a cute idea and romance but not too keen on the details you will provably feel the same way about the book.

I think it’s one of those books that people will have very strong feelings about on both sides of the spectrum ❤️ Regardless we can all use a little romance faith in our lives that in the end what’s meant to be will always find a way.

Sometimes you just need that book to pull you into the character's world and out of your own world. From the first page, I knew that I would enjoy it. The concept caught my attention because I'm simply a sucker for books that have a "the one that away" concept. This one definitely hit the spot. I like that it was clean and didn't have unnecessary cursing. It was funny and a good reminder that people aren't always as they appear.

It all starts one fateful February 4th, 2003 when greeting card writer and aspiring screenwriter Olivia Ross meets a charming accented actor in a coffee shop and they make a date for 10 years in the future. The novel then follows Olivia and her best friend Fiona through the ups and downs of their careers and relationships each year on February 4th.

A rom-com roller coaster about the importance of friendship, as this novel chronicles 10 years worth of February 4ths. It was an interesting premise to revisit the characters only on the same day every year, though after a while I will admit that it was hard to feel sorry for Olivia who frequently painted herself as a victim of her circumstances. I liked her friendships with Luke and Fiona, as well how the author found creative ways to be original within the genre. It was a well balanced mix of humor and heartbreak, I appreciated the realness of a story where everything isn't all roses.

Overall a clean rom com, filled with colorful characters and a kaleidoscope of coincidences, and misunderstandings. An entertaining read that kept me guessing till the end!

One Day In December meets a more specific calendar of a specific day in February.

I have such mixed feelings. I didn’t like One Day in December because the ending just seemed so bleh for the years of build up. This one also had so many years of build up. I jalapeño just think if she had told him from the start about her feelings, the communication issues and such could have been SO much better. Really her breaking up with him because he was suddenly funny was just odd to me. I still didn’t get that even after she explained it many times. I think this book compared to similar title as mentioned was a lot funnier, the characters were very much enjoyable. I didn’t like that Liam kept trying to be with people and then leaving them. Like if he didn’t really want to move on, why did he drag these women along. Almost marrying one, almost getting engaged to another. I think I could have overlooked everything but that. I didn’t enjoy that and she still wanted to be with him. It just made him come off flakey.

Also I would have enjoyed if this went from they were in their 20s to 30s. Being in their 40s at the end was weird. These girls have basically live together for 20 years. That’s crazy to me. Never really on their own except that one year in Italy? Seems strangely codependent and they just acted so much younger than they were. So it didn’t match up with me well.

Gosh I just loved this book so much. It’s hard to put it into words. The premise instantly grabs you, a regular day like any other, that becomes a date with so many coincidences as the years pass… and the promise that after a chance encounter they’ll meet again in 10 years?! Wild. Just wild. Olivia, Fiona, and Liam are such interesting characters and how their lives intertwine made such an enjoyable story. I could not get enough of this book!

Thanks to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson for a digital arc, all opinions are my own.

This is by no means a new favourite for me, but it was a quick, fun read. I listened to the audiobook, and I loved the narration. My favourite aspect of this book is that it spans several years. However, I didn't like the romance at all, nor the friendship that was very central to the plot, which made it hard to really enjoy the book. I also found the ending a tad too silly

While the premise of the book held a lot of promise, what actually unfolded seemed rather mundane and a bit 'high school'. Your best friend goes out with your ex. You spend a decade wondering 'what if' with a stranger you met in a coffee shop. All the while, you've not done much to progress your life or pursue your dreams.

I guess it's a fairly true reflection of 'normal life'.

I did rather enjoy the plot twist at the end. It was completely unexpected and a pleasant surprise.

This was a fun and quick read. I definitely plan to check it if the author had anything else or already!

When I set the book aside, I got to thinking about the framing of its review. Maybe as I work my way through describing the book and its pros and cons here, I might figure out how to present my thought process.
Olivia Ross has an accidental meet-cute scenario at a coffee shop in 2003. At least it doesn't start out that way. It is more of a professional shake of hands to meet ten years later. She is to show up with a screenplay, and he would act in it or make it. The beginning was well and good and set up a decent start to the train of events to happen on February the 4th for the next ten years.
Now, the idea of the same day every year used to showcase how the entire previous year has gone is an interesting concept and worked for the most part. The problem I had was with the rush of it all. There was too much information to parse through and digest. I was exhausted by the time we were halfway across. Maybe if the book was divided into multiple instalments with more happening in any given year, I might have even been better equipped to face the passing of time.
Olivia, her best friend, her love life and the changes every year were entertaining, but I was annoyed with the changes when the nth change swung around. So, this is where the strange thing happened. I sort of knew how one part of the ending might turn out, but the other more significant part of the ending was astonishing and very well done. The method of the hows and whys of the reveal was satisfying and ensured that I left the book in a reasonable frame of mind.
I hope I made sense with my ramblings, which may have been all over the place. Anyone who finds the blurb and/or my review even mildly interesting can safely give this book a shot!
I received an ARC thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the review is entirely based on my own reading experience.

I started this but could not finish just because I could not like the main character. I am all for people that don't know where their life is going but when they are mean to their own friends I cannot root for them. With so many books to read I had to move on from this one.

Plot Twist by Bethany Turner is an engaging contemporary romantic comedy that delves into the nature and complexity of impressionable first encounters and lifelong friendships. Filled with humor, heartache, & second chances “plot twist” is well worth the read, and truly WILL surprise you in the end.

In honesty this was a really slow paced book for me which is something I've realized is common for this authors. I really had high hopes for this one but it fell flat to me & I wasn't really enjoying it as much as I thought I would. The premise is great & I appreciated the focus on movies but as a whole I was just a bit bored.

Oh man I haven’t hated a book I’ve finished in a long time. Oh man oh man did I hate this book.

I’d probably hate it 15% more if I’m the blurb had been at all reflective of what is happening in the book, but I still wouldn’t like it. Our heroine is deeply selfish, continually hurts her friends and is deceptive? Also it really doesn’t feel like she’s a thirty + year old woman. As a grown ass adult I often feel lost but there is no excuse for Olivia to be such a wretched person.

This was a joy of a rom-com read! And I have to say it actually *got* me with the ending! Totally was NOT expecting it and loved it even more for it!

Felt like this was a fast read — not super unputdownable and parts felt repetitive — but it was easy to read and I'd definitely recommend it for a fun vacay read or something! Set in February so even like a Valentine's Day type of book rec!

This book has been out since June 15th and it’s basically a crime it’s only making my booksta grid now.

First off, have you read @seebethanywrite books yet? I am a Bethany Turner FAN GIRL and every. single. book. is full of LAUGH OUT LOUD moments and romantic gestures that make any romcom fans *sigh* like they’re watching a Norah Ephron movie.

This novel takes place on February 4th over 10 years time and our girl Olivia has so many ups and downs along the way. The PINING I felt… it felt like I was there all 10 years and I loved all the early 2000s references. It’s just so fun! And it’s Hollywood! And it’s a really amazing journey for our main character.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I feel like naming names of the romantic lead is a spoiler but AHHH. I needed more of him. Such an absolute sweetie pie book bf and I miss him. ♥️

This was a fun rom-com novel full of pop culture references from 2003 to 2013! I’m not much of a first person POV reader, but heard so much about this book that I knew I needed to read it. I’m glad I did. I liked the plot twist at the end. Very creative! You’ll love Fiona and Liam in addition to Olivia, of course!

This was such a delightful read!
The story is about Olivia meeting a struggling actor in a coffee shop. Even though the book only focused on Olivia, I really liked that. We get to read how her day goes on every February 4th for a decade. It’s lovely to see her growth and also see the mistakes she makes.
I didn’t expect the plot twist at the end, which I love. I was so sucked into the story that I didn’t even see the twist coming. It surprised me in a good way and it rounded up the story amazingly.
My favorite character was Liam. He said a lot of wise quotes, which I loved him for.
This book made me smile and didn’t turn out to be the cliché story I thought it would be.

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the e-arc.
