I was thrilled to be able to read an advance copy of The Night Hawks. Once again, Elly Griffiths has outdone herself. The Ruth Galloway series gets better and better. Readers will be happy to see the beloved characters from previous books return, and the circumstances were unique and interesting. I liked the addition of the detectorists. It was fun to see Ruth coping with her new professional responsibilities as well as her new colleague. I also liked following the continuing staff changes in the police department and its internal politics and pressures.
I couldn't put the book down, as much as I wanted to savor reading it. The mystery compelled me to read it quickly, and, of course, I wanted to see what was happening in the personal lives of the characters. I can't wait to read the next one. I highly recommend this book and the whole series- it's my absolute favorite!

Ruth is back as head of the archaeology department at the University of North Norfolk when a group called the Night Hawks uncovers some Bronze Age relics on the beach with their metal detectors. But that’s not all, they also discover a body. When the same group “discovers” a murder suicide, it seems like too much of a coincidence and DCI Tony Nelson is assigned the case. Ever protective of Ruth, and the child they share, Nelson is suspicious of Ruth’s newest hire, lecturer David Brown, who seems to turn up everywhere Ruth does. I’m glad Griffiths brought Ruth and Kate back to Norfolk, the atmosphere and setting are part of what makes this series such a standout
