I love Dandy Daley Mackall! She always has such fun, silly books for kids. This book did not disappoint. It is the story of Daniel and the lions den with a fun, goofy mouse. I enjoyed this book and the pictures are wonderful. i will recommend this book for my church library.

I love the telling of Daniel & the lions den in this book. I honestly wasn't a huge fan of the mouse and the warning about lions being in the book. However, I can totally see how that would he entertaining from a child's perspective.

It can be hard to find a unique take on a common bible story like Daniel in the Lion's den. Mckall has made a valiant effort here by taking an approach like "There's a Monster at the End of this Book", having the mouse warn the reader about the impending lions.

This is a lovely version of the story of David in the lion’s den. It tells of his bravery in a beautiful child friendly way with lovely illustrations what would encourage even the most reluctant reader to read on. It’s a beautiful book that will be read in my classroom for many years to come.

My son loved this book! It's a bit different as it's a mix of a biblical story mixed with the interactive character warning you of the LIONS! It's a fun way to share a bible story with the fun, silly suspense but more appropriate for the younger kiddos (~3). The mix of biblical and silly didn't hold the attention of my 6 year old as well, but it was such a fun read while also knowing seeds from the bible were being planted.

“There Are Lions in This Book!” is an adorable re-telling of the Bible story of Daniel. The illustrations are eye-catching and fun as a little mouse warns us not to turn the pages because of the lions that are in the book. Young children will love this book, and it will hold their attention as it isn’t too long a story. This is a fun way for children to learn the teachings of the Bible and how faith in God will get us out of all kinds of pits.

My children loved There Are Lions in This Book! Each page has eye-catching illustrations and beautifully tells the story of Daniel in the lions' den. My kids especially enjoyed the silly mouse who makes sure to warn the reader that there are lions ahead on every page. I'm sure we'll be reading this one again soon!

A retelling of the Bible story of Daniel and the Lions Den with a narrator mouse who tries to dissuade readers from turning pages because of the dangerous lions inside. But are the mouse’s worries well founded?

A clever way to retell the story of Daniel and the Lions Den. The retelling does a good job of putting the Bible story into words easily grasped by kids but still remaining true to the biblical telling. The illustrations are fun and engaging, while also echoing the Babylonian culture. Recommended for Sunday schools, Christian families, and Christian preschools and lower elementary schools.

I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

There Are Lions in This Book! is a Christian children’s book written by Dandi Daley Mackall.

Summary: This book summarizes the story of Daniel in the Bible.

My Thoughts: I have mixed feelings about this book. It did a decent job covering the story, and the illustrations are nice. I thought the mouse warning the reader about lions was a fun touch that kids would enjoy as well.

But to me, it felt strange to add in a bunch of very informal words (super-duper, no take backs, woo hoo, etc.) to such an important story. I can understand trying to appeal to kids with this type of language, but it made the narrative feel choppy, and to be honest, a bit irreverent as well. It is not the type of thing I would enjoy reading to my kids over and over either.

This book fell a little flat for me, but if you don’t mind the informality, check it out. It is definitely a unique spin on the story of Daniel.

I would like to thank B&H Publishing Group for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you!

There Are Lions In This Book, and they are hungry!

Kids are going to love this book – especially those named Daniel.
B&H Publishing Group gives Bible-believing parents a very simple way to share the story of Daniel in the Lion’s Den with their kids in There Are Lions In This Book, by Dandi Daley Mackall.
Illustrated by Christian Cornia, this important children’s picture book offers a solidly-researched and dependable story that outlines the ages-old problem of human jealousy and one man’s faithfulness to God. Its art is presented perfectly for this story and Cornia included the cutest and most trepidacious mouse I’ve ever seen.
Despite the continual warnings of a terrified mouse trying desperately to warn readers not to continue through this seemingly scary ferocious lion-filled story, the reader is treated to a classic Bible story that teaches God’s faithfulness in times of distress and trial and foreshadows the story of Jesus Christ many eras later in history.
Daniel was known by his boss, King Darius, to give the best advice around, and was chosen to be the Chief Advisor on the king’s advisory staff. In those days, the crown royal leader, King Darius, consulted a team of people called “seers” about what decisions to make for his kingdom.
Daniel was the best and most accurate “seer” in the kingdom. He had a very special gift. Through God, Daniel could see what God had in store for Darius’ Kingdom.
And because of his gift, Daniel’s fellow staff members hated him.
Jealousy: Such, an ugly face of humanity.
Daniel’s fellow staff members teamed up to initiate a plot to kill the talented, Godly man. And that is where the lion’s come into this story.
Learn what happens to Daniel when he is thrown into a room full of hungry lions in this classic children’s book.
There Are Lions In This Book is an excellent choice for kids between two and ten years old. It is relatable, easy to understand, and the perfect way to share this Bible story with kids.

My 10 year old daughter wanted to read this book. She saw that it was about lions and was intrigued. She would recommend reading what it was about first, since it is a Bible story. She still enjoyed the story, espcially the part with the mouse.

I thought the writing was easy for young kids to understand. I, however, didn't really like the mouse side story. I found it to be distracting. Overall, I would recommend it to patrons looking for Biblically based stories.

Cute book but almost feels like it should be separate stories. The story of Daniel is told very simply and is well done. The mouse is cute but doesn't really let you know where he came from (maybe I am missing a page?) I thunk if you read the story of Daniel first, then go back and read the mouse it would make a vey fun read . Great illustrations. Good children's length and word usage. Very fun for preshool aged kids.

What a wonderful story that tickled my funny bone! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Oh, wait, I’m not supposed to as it’s a children’s book? Only parents can when reading to their children? Or grandparents? I see. Then I’m only to tell parents to not buy this book as there are lions in it. Got it!
I received an advanced reader copy for free from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

One of my favorite Bible stories gets a modern update. Children will love the illustrations and the anticipation as the story unfolds. I plan to buy this for my 4 year old grandson.

What a wonderful new version of the Daniel/Lion's den story! A new narrator mouse pops in to encourage readers to interact with this classic story. Young kids and families will love this fresh new addition!

Honestly it was kind of annoying. It was like trying to watch a Bible show and a comedy movie at the same time. Love the idea but the application was bad

Biblical retelling of sesame street classic. There was a kids book in the 80s/90s called "There is a Monster at the End of this Book". I recall it was one of my favorites as a kid as breaking the 4th wall was neat in a children's book and allows for more excitement for the little one. This book also captures that magic with beautiful artwork that draws the reader in and then there is the cute mouse interacting with the reader. But this is all done to the back drop of Daniel in the Lions den. The story and its retelling are accurate and in line with the Bible story. The book actually includes some minor details that are often missed in other children's versions of the story.

As I mentioned the art is beautiful and it brilliantly highlights the characters who display more through their emotional expressions then is conveyed in the narration. Also "There Are Lions in This Book" is an ideal length that easily holds the moderate attention spans of a six year old (and I would expect that anyone 3 or over would like this book). While my older children didn't initially want to read along as things progressed they squeezed in so they too could see the pictures.

Overall this is a great kids book that could easily become a favorite especially for those unfamiliar with "There is a Monster at the End of This Book". And even if they are then they may still enjoy this similar tale that walks with us through the classic Biblical story.
