This was a sweet story of love through the highs and lows of life, social controversy and overcoming miscommunication. The characters were interesting, relatable people who could be any of us. As they navigate the highs and lows of life their love and support of one another was a story I couldn't put down.

Not my favorite book by far. It took multiple attempts to get through this book before I decided not to finish it. I just felt like it was trying to be a really deep/complex story but it wasn’t one.

Whew yall. I hate not finishing a book. Because I'm a mom to a busy toddler, I have more limited time to read than some. I'm literally behind on typing in reviews because this is my first weekend away in years! That being said, while I always finish a book, I'll sometimes put them down if they're just not good. This one has been put down more times than I can count. I finally slogged my way to the end and oh it just wasn't good. This book was just not for me. The writing. The character development. I just couldn't latch onto anything I loved here.

Very basic writing. I finished this title because I'm not good at dropping books, but that is more of a goal for this year because honestly... it just wasn't worth the time it took to read!

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. A good women's fiction novel. Great weekend read.

I wanted this to be a really good book that tugged on my heartstrings but I didn't get very far before I had to DNF. It quickly became something that I knew I wasn't going to enjoy so I decided I wasn't going to make myself read a book that would make me put myself in a slump. I feel like this one might appeal to an older audience better than the younger and they would really enjoy the storyline. Thank you for the chance to review this early copy.

I've seen comparisons of the writing style of this book to Richard Russo and I can definitely see that. This is a quiet, introspective book with a look at a long marriage from both partner's views. Faced with a health dilemma and reaching the end of their lives together, Pete and Jackie reflect back on their relationship, their life experiences, and what brought them together. I'm sure we all will take time to review our lives when we know we are reaching the end. I especially loved Pete's perspective, he was honest and raw, real and loving. This is a quiet book that is great for readers that want an intimate look into someone else's relationship.

If felt like it was not completely done and left me wanting more meat to the story. The characters development I wish was a little more then what it was. But overall it was good book.

I just couldn’t really get into this book, unfortunately. The writing felt a bit disjointed and I wasn’t a fan of the characters. Maybe I’ll try again at a later date.

This novel explores the lives of two long-married people, Peter and Jackie. It opens with Peter, a former speech writer and a newly published novelist, getting ready for his first book signing in a bookstore in his old hometown on Cape Cod, and with Jackie still reeling from very bad news about her breast cancer. It then jumps back into the early to mid-1960s, when they were both in high school. It eventually comes back to the present (some time during the Obama presidency, anyway). At first I thought I was going to really enjoy the book, but it wound up losing me partway through. I just didn’t find myself invested in the two main characters and the tragedy that first separated them (back in high school) and which haunted them down through the years.

CW: breast cancer, accidental death, abortion, dementia, civil rights and racism

While I received the eARC from NetGalley, I wound up listening to the published audiobook by Simon & Schuster Audio. The narrators, Fred Sanders and Amanda Carlin, did an excellent job with the various voices.

Thank you to NetGalley and Gallery Books for the opportunity to read an advance readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own

This novel was such a sweet and tender tale. It was both realistic and relatable. The author did an excellent job with the character development and left me wanting more. John Hough has become an auto-buy author for me.

This is the love story of a couple who have been through tragedy, secrets, parenthood, illness and now due to an unforeseen circumstance, they must now analyze their marriage. The premise of the plot was very good and it was well written but I never seemed to engage with the characters
Many thanks to Gallery Books and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I wasn't able to get into this book. It felt slow and sad, and now it's not the mood I can immerse myself in. Perhaps I will try again at another moment.

There was so much wrong with this book. Suffice it to say I will not be recommending it. Please get an editor author!!!

I don't think I was quite the target demographic for this novel, but I did find it enjoyable. It was easy to get caught up in the writing. The dialogue felt a bit choppy with the "he said/she said" as the most used speaker tag. The story moved at a decent pace, and flowed really well at the end.

I received an advance copy. All thoughts are my own.

I enjoyed the overall theme of this book however it was hard to get into and there were several times where the plot dragged and I did not feel very connected to the story. It could be that I just didn't connect with the plot on a personal level but it was hard to keep my attention.
Thank you to NetGalley and Gallery Books for this ARC.

This is a melancholy story of love and loss - a bit different from what a expected and likely a case of right book, wrong time for me.
