After finishing the first story with the epic cliffhanger I started reading this straightaway wanting a conclusion and whilst some aspects were clarified it is still a work in progress. I felt this 2nd instalment fleshed out Lilah and Kane and I thoroughly enjoyed the fast paced novel.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read a copy of this book.
What an action packed, suspenseful, mysterious, addicting read! So many secrets, so much drama, and the twists and turns.....you don't want to put it down! Lilah Love is one tough, bad talking, smart, dedicated FBI agent. Lilah and Kane are so in sync with each other and I love them together! I want these two to get a happily ever after, but will it happen?? I can't wait for the next book!
Ohhhhh the plot thickens! And the heat is turning up between Lilah and Kane! All these theories of who is behind everything.... Is it one or more than one person who is after Lilah... To what lengths will she go to find out the truth.... Such a page turner!!
A tense and thrilling instalment to the series. This is mostly a continuation of the first book Murder Notes and the characters and plot threads from that book continue to be developed here.
I really enjoyed it, though Lilah is a character that can be difficult to really warm to however I love Kane. He is the embodiment of the dark antihero which is one of my favourite character types.
Can't wait for the next in the series.
*Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher*
Oh, how I am loving this series! And this is only book 2.
So this book picks up where “Murder Notes” left off. And this book has a multi page character description at the beginning in case you had forgotten all the main players. It took me until the halfway point of book 1 to get everyone straight, but once I did, I became hooked. Regardless, the character mapping at the beginning of this book is nice.
Agent Lilah Love is still in the Hamptons searching for the assassin. And her brother is still the chief of police; her father is still the mayor (but planning to run for Governor); her ex is still in charge of the Mendel cartel (supposedly); her ex best friend is now married to her brother’s best friend (who Lilah cannot stand); her boss is making her question his loyalties; her cousin can hack into any system around; her ex-partner at NYPD appears to have been contaminated; the coroner (and her friend) seems to be everywhere and all too knowing; her father’s campaign appears to be managed and run by a very dirty billionaire; and she is still being tormented by Junior. Basically Lilah doesn’t know who she can trust - and that includes her own family members.
There is plenty of intrigue and death in this book also / but it is glorious. Now on to book 3 I go. 😀
I love how Lisa Renee Jones plants seeds of doubt with every single character in the book. We know everyone can’t be guilty, but can they to a certain extent?
I was provided this book in exchange for an honest review. The opinions stated above are none without biases.
Murder Girl is the second book in the Lilah Love series, it starts from the ending of Murder Notes. A big thank you for the very nice and compact recap at the beginning.
We get some additional backstory on Lilah and Kane in this book. Some secrets are uncovered and some that are dirty get their due. The conspiracy is further reaching than it seems at first glance as most cover ups tend to be. Deals are made and protections are granted. Be prepared for the unexpected and you will not be disappointed. And remember Murder Girl seems to attract dead bodies and there will be lots of blood. I'm the end you will have more questions than answers. What's next for Lilah Love?
I was kind of disagree with the first book because it ended in a cliffhanger, but I was dying to know how the case ended to I grabbed book 2 and thankfully enjoyed it a lot more. I felt like the pacing was a lot better and there was a conclusion.
Obviously the series goes on so there was some lead in to that, but not as bad of a cliffhanger.
I'm curious to see how Lilah and Kane make their relationship work as this series goes on.
I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. This is my honest review.
Will you ever be able to leave the past behind? Special Agent Lilah Love knows that her family has secrets but she is about to find out something that can change everything. She knows that she can trust Kane Mendez but he is part of the cartel & they share so much more than just sex. She needs his help again to find a killer but they keep on crossing the line with each other. Lilah doesn’t have the best people skills so not everyone wants to talk with her but she needs figure out who is telling the truth. But is she ready for the truth about who is pulling the strings in her town? Can she trust her instincts this time? Kane knows that Lilah won’t stop until she finds out the truth. He will do anything to keep her safe but can he save her from herself? Where will they land up after all this is sorted? Will they ever be free? A great read. I was lucky enough to receive a copy from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
Murder Girl is Book 2 in the Lilah Love Series and picks up where Murder Notes (Book 1) left off.
Lilah is a fantastic profiler and is working on an important case. That doesn't mean that love still isn't on her mind and that is an over reaching theme in this book. The mystery and the romance are written so well.
I really enjoyed the twists and turns, nothing is as you would expect in this book.
The writing is very well done . I look forward to more books in this series.
Murder Girl picks up where Murder Notes left off. This series has several story lines flowing at the same time. Some are complete in each volume, lending their solutions to the overall story line that continues from one book to the next. Lisa Renee Jones spent a considerable amount of time and effort in the first book to set up the overall arc that will follow Lilah Love throughout her life. Her back story is evolving in each book so we see how her career as a profiler was destined from an early age. The books and the story just keep getting better. There is a competing story that revolves around a relationship from Lilah's past that is not as firmly in her past as she thinks. The suspense is building and the tension is strung tight. When is the next book?
Love Lisa Renee Jones. Have read her in the past. These titles were wonderful, but all ended on a cliff-hanger. There was no resolution and I will have to keep reading and keep reading and keep reading. That's not a bad thing and I enjoy seeing a continuation of characters from title to title, but I don't like books that leave you mid-scene or mid-conversation for a "to be continued" kinda vibe. If it weren't for that, I'd be a huge fan of this new series.
Sadly I will not be fully reviewing this book as I have been so disappointed by the format - not resolving the cases and carrying over into a second book what might have easily fit into just one is not for me - there was no satisfaction !
I voluntarily tried to read and review this book - all opinions are my own
Second in this series and a catch up to the cliffhanger in the first book. This one is full of mystery, drama, violence, and emotional surprises. Loved this book, so much better than the first and makes you want to continue the series, reminds me of the Meli Raine books, although without the romance, there is a small amount of steam. A serious who done it. Grab this one.
I loved the ending to the first story of Lilah Love. She is very good at her job, and managed to find the bad guy, while uncovering a secret society. Each person dead was one on a hit list setup by said society. I feel bad for Lilah that her family is a part of it and her father knew of the attack on her and did nothing. I'm glad that those people who truly do know her, know that Kane isn't going anywhere even though she isn't so sure yet.
Lilah does take some getting used to, but I like her. If you don't like creepy I wouldn't read this series, but if you do I highly recommend it. Lilah is worth giving a chance to.
This is a fantastic follow up to Murder Notes. An ingenious plot full of twists, turns and suspense with complex characters none of whom you’d turn your back on unless you’re not afraid of a knife between the shoulder blades.
Murder Girl starts where Murder Notes left off. Lilah Love isn’t someone you would want as a friend. She’s anti-social, full of attitude, distrustful, foul mouthed and very confrontational but if you were ever unfortunate enough to be murdered, then she’s the the person you’d want on the case. She is willing to go to any lengths in pursuit of justice for the victims she stands for and will let no one stand in her way whether they be family, friend or foe. In this book the plot deepens. There is literally no one she can trust other than Kane Mendez who accepts every part of her, even her dark side but she hates that he see the real Lilah that she struggles to hide from the world. All the threads are gradually being woven together to find the killer but who will be left standing at the end?
Again ... the mystery isn’t solved?!
Maybe it’s a three book arc.
Still waiting to warm up to Lilah.
On to the next ...
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an arc in exchange for my honest review.
This is book 2 in the Lilah Love series and it's really a mystery, not a romance, although of course, there is the chemistry between suspect (and ex-lover, Kane) and her. There were twists and turns and the reader continues to wonder who the real bad guys are and how her family and friends are involved. I enjoyed the mystery- I thought that the story itself dragged a little but overall, the interplay between the characters and Lilah's thought processes were really interesting. The mystery continues though and there are multiple other books in the series so you'll need to continue reading on to get closure on what is happening. Thanks to NetGalley for this book!
The second book in series, but still no wiser by the end, more questions than answers, leaving the mystery still unsolved. Very slow and exhausting at times, but feeling you need to read the next book so as not to have wasted the time getting to here. I will read the third but if still no ending will be very disappointed to have started this series.
this might be billed as part two of the duet, but be warned, the mystery isn't solved. Just more questions and overarching conspiracy theories coming to the fore.
I am even more certain Lilah and Kane are a good match, I dislike Lilah's father even more and I'm really not sure about her boss. Other than that, who knows who's involved in this and how it will end? It was exhausting to read all that and actually be none the wiser at the end.
I’m finding this series slow going, nothing seems to be truly resolved and still the same story line continues. The heroine is very cold and I find it hard to relate to her
