This is an interesting book to be read daily like a bible. It's full of facts to learn more about all different things in life. I found that I already knew a lot of them and others didn't interest me that much, but it's a nice premise.
Really nice. A wide variety of info, facts, bios, trivia, etc. Each entry has just enough to be interesting but not too much, including some simple images to help keep it visually interesting as well. Recommended.
Thanks very much for the review copy!!
This is really a great way to kickstart one's day. There's a wide variety of information here; some I had known already but much I had not. It's definitely one that is easy to read but that makes it easy to dwell upon. A simple book in some ways, but also one that can give someone a bit of daily insight.
If you don't want to do it day by day, I would suggest randomly opening a page and reading it each day. There's a lot you could look deeper into.
The Intellectual Devotional presents 365 short chapters displaying what humanity has learned, created, and achieved during its time on Earth. The book covers seven subjects— one for each day of the week.
• Monday-History
• Tuesday-Literature
• Wednesday-Visual Arts
• Thursday-Science
• Friday-Music
• Saturday-Philosophy
• Sunday-Religion
After taking every Appreciation class offered at my community college, I knew much of this information. However, The Intellectual Devotional is a perfect tool to learn a bit about a lot of things in only one year. To be honest, I had a problem stopping when the day’s reading, about 5-10 pages, was over. I actually read a week at a time. Not only would this be a good choice to leave by your bedside, it would also make a great bathroom reader.
If you have a resolution to learn something new in the new year, The Intellectual Devotional is the perfect tool. 5 stars!
Thanks to Rodale Books and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
The Intellectual Devotional is a great little book for those looking to expand their knowledge. It offers daily entries for an entire year, each of which focuses on a part of history, culture, or science and gives good background information and additional facts. There are things that you may have forgotten since school alongside new topics to you.
The entries can each be read in a few minute's time, making this a great book to integrate into daily routines and be able to have a running knowledge on a number of topics over the course of a year.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Rodale Books for the advance copy.
